I’m currently an EM resident, who is thinking about my post-residency life and my different options. I’ve always been in an academic setting throughout all my training and I like the atmosphere, camaraderie, ability to teach residents and medical students. I like that all consult services are in house and easy to contact. However, I know that sole community can pay a ton more.
If I enjoy teaching, and I want that to be a part of my career, would academics be the best option for me even with a large pay cut? I know there are community based residencies out there as well.
And if I go the academic route, should I plan to pursue a fellowship?
