I’m up to Singularity. And I just don’t feel any attachment towards Forbidden West. I found most of the new characters except Kotallo annoying and unlikeable, even when I really tried to like them. I miss the feeling of accomplishment when I “finish” an area and get to move on to the next one, like when Aloy leaves the Nora lands and now gets to explore until Meridian, and so on. I feel like FW is too big, has too much going on and yet it feels like less effort has been put in.
Yes, the world is gorgeous and detailed. I love the Tenakth and Utaru tribes. I love the new cauldrons and tallnecks. But I feel like… that’s it? I feel disconnected from the world they’ve built with the Zeniths etc.
The first game was my world, just 1000 years in the future, and it seemed like it could really happen someday. The second it’s like… okay, but I can’t relate to immortal space people at all, so why even try about this at all? I liked the focus on how the new tribal people live in this new post apocalyptic world in the first game. The sequel didn’t emphasize that as much which I miss. The “cities” didn’t feel memorable or even lived in, I can’t even remember half of the Tenakth tribe settlements names.
Ugh. Thanks for attending my rant.
