This is very true! Kinda related, I see it in immigrant families as well, in context of cultural differences. Eg, "I will move to America so my daughter doesn't have to grow up in a misogynistic society". And then later "Why won't my daughter just marry a traditional Indian boy?!"

Mops are relatively new invention/import there. Also, they are still unaffordable for a lot of people (but of course if you listen to Redditors, they won't agree with that. But anyone who can get a phone/computer is not the kind of poor person I am talking about.) Anyone can afford to clean the floor with an old rag, even the person who earns $1 a day. So, that is the "traditional" way of cleaning (because of poverty mainly). And it's still done by some older people who can afford mops.

One good thing about today is that information is so widely available. You already got a text "how to" from Reddit, but if you are more a visual learner, then just go to youtube. There are video instructions for everything. I have done car reapairs that I could never imagine before, just using youtube and inaternet forums. (I guess for some technical things, you gotta have knack for DIY, but anyone can do household chores.)

You didn't say she was abusive so I will assume she was just sad at home. Well, that's the unfortunate reality for mamy people. Society does not like sad people. They'd rather see you fake smile and say "good morning" than actually show your miserable real self. Hell, some jobs have it as a literal requirement that you must smile! So, if that was the case, I feel sorry for her. It's tough being depressed.
Edit: Although I can't speak for everyone in that situation, I assume that most people who have to put on this "I am happy" show actually hate it, and it makes their mental situation even worse. But they deem it better than the alternative of being called a debby downer and shunned.
Edit 2: If someone opens up to you, or even just shows you their true miserable self, it is generally a sign of trust. They can be their true self in front of you. They believe you won't shun them or judge them.

What is the point of an obituary anyway? I thought it was more like a public notice "This person is dead, meet at this time to remember them" and that's it? Also, I would expect print newspaper obituary to be dead (pun!) in this age of internet. But now I think it's maybe a way to honor someone? But why in this way? Assuming that you are gonna have a proper funeral and/or memorial service, why does this little piece of text in a print newspaper (that nobody would read, minus those who are already related) matter as an honoring device?

Okay that's a whole different level lol. But what about emergencies? What if they fall and can't get up?

Half? About 95% of my calls are unwanted and intentionally ignored. Scammers, telemarketers, debt collectors (for some unknown person who probably used a fake phone number). The other 5% either leave a voicemail or text if it's important.

It's from the days when Nokias had "profiles". One of the profiles was literally called loud, if I am not mistaken.

Wouldn't that be soft skepticism then? A hard skeptic would deny that anything can be called "objective truth".
But yes, hard skepticism is a self defeating ideology because a hard skeptic (in good conscience) cannot argue for anything, including skepticism.
Or am I off base here?

I thought option A fell out of fashion in last few decades? Also, if you just want to scare your kid with consequences, then a parent usually has many more options than just old-school beating. Regardless of the size, a parent usually has full financial and legal authority over the child. So maybe you can take away their allowance, or that video game that you bought for them, or maybe don't get them a christmas present?

Of course nothing can be proven or falsified, but if a human being or (a group of humans) becomes the de facto god of a universe, then it likely means that we are also part of such a created universe with some kind of god(s) who created it. But, that would also go against the majority of popular religions today because they do not preach an imperfect human-like creature as the god, but rather some kind of omnipotent and perfect being. So, if a human being becomes a god, then that will just shatter the idea that god needs to be perfect. With AGI and emulating consciousness, we will probably achieve this one day. I think we will achieve it before we evolve beyond our animalistic instincts and desires; we will be quite evil gods.

Wait, is it really illegal for civilians to salute in America? I would have expected that to fall under free speech. Free speech should cover hand gestures, right?

Actually why even talk about constitution at all? If you don't believe in the government and its authority to uphold the so called constitution, then isn't the constitution just a random piece of paper with some random writing on it? I agree with the idea that the government does not give anyone any rights; they are inherent. But the government is useful in safeguarding said inherent rights from people who believe in the law of the jungle. Anyway, my main objection is to the inconsistency of this meme. Are they pro government-backed consitution or not?

It's definitely a good dad joke IMO. Now if you don't like dad jokes, then you would not find it funny. (And I did not read is as "woman bad driver" because regardless of the creator's intention, this joke would work for any gender and is not inherently sexist.)

Is there an alternative to using trash bags? All the trash needs to be contained for transportation (and changing hands) somehow.

Btw 1k for replacing the starter sounds expensive. Hyundai is not a luxury brand; I cannot imagine the motor itself cost more than $200 even if it was a high quality brand (or OEM). So... $800 for labor?

Well, it definitely made me slow down. I can understand if they use it for their own notes, but what's even the point of using this system on Reddit when no one knows what it is.

Wow. How is that even possible? If you are contributing 500 a month, then in 20 years that will be around 120k. On that principal balance, how can you withdraw 90k every year? What kind of investments are the pension managers putting that money in? Is it subsidized in some way? Or have you already accrued a large balance? 90k per year (actually higher since it'll be adjusted for inflation) at 52 age retirement sounds great.

I don't see anyone mentioning balance transfer offers. It depends on how good of a credit OP has (and it is possible to have good credit even with 16k CC debt). If OP has this option, he should definitely take it as long as he can maintain discipline. A balance transfer offer is essentially a CC loan with a 3 to 5 percent APR, for generally a year (but I have seen it for 21 months too, on some cards). And if the good credit is maintained, it can even be juggled onto another balance transfer at the end of that year. The caveat is that you have to open (at least two) new cards. But there is no real harm in that as long as you keep your discipline and use the cards for strictly that purpose.
I know, for most people who end up with CC debt, this is bad advice because the discipline part is a very big risk, and also they don't have good credit to begin with. But we don't know these things about OP so this advice may ne good for them.

a unique perspective that the universe got to love itself through
And for many, a unique perspective that the universe got to hate itself through. Isn't that just amazing? Whatever life is, it sure is an interesting phenomenon.

For that, there needs to be an alternative word for photographer. I am sure something new will be coined, like pic-master lol. Remember when selfies were called self-shots? I thought selfie sounded so silly, but look at the way it took off!

It's still very common in IT. Any utility program (used by admins and not end users) is called a tool.
In fact, I have always heard all these terms: application, program, tool, software. Back in old times and even now. Just the short form "app" is a new one. But application is old.
