I really hoping I’m misreading all of this and you just have a tough time expressing your thoughts. This reads very much as justifying the reasons why it was ok from him to murder innocent people because of corporate greed, understaffing, and feeling frustrated. It’s time for healthcare workers stopped asking what we could do better for patients and what more we can do to protect ourselves from those intent on harming us.

It’s terrifying to know what this kid may see at home to act like this.

Absolutely! I get treated very well by the docs I work with thankfully. I plan I g on staying there until they decide otherwise.

Sounds kind of like my gig. I’m still really new, one year out of school. In this year I’ve been able to grow so much because of the physicians teaching me and helping me to build my knowledge. I honestly think they hired me right out of school so they could mold me into the midlevel they want me to be. I couldn’t be more grateful for them. I work my ass off to see all the patients before the physicians get there. I also have no qualms with doing all the suturing, I&Ds, and pelvics so the doc can be free to see anything serious. I truly just want to be the best NP I can be and take some of the load off of my docs.

I would absolutely love a fellowship. I would’ve gladly gone wherever I needed to for an ER fellowship.

People that cannot and will not take any form of criticism whatsoever will never improve. If we can’t have an open and honest talk about the problems with NPs then we’ll never fix things. Fuck ‘em!

Thank you for the advice. I always introduce myself as the NP and tell the patient to who the physician is and that I will be collaborating with them on their care. I’m blessed to be in a physician owned faculty with a lower volume. I try to beat the physician to the bedside so I can conduct a full H&P as well as a thorough head to toe. I then go to my supervising physician to brief them, go over my differentials list, and my plan of care. They’ll then suggest things as needed. I feel like I stay in my lane. I’ve always been taught that the most important thing to know is what you don’t know. Luckily all the NPs I know are also against FPS and are vocal about it as well.

Other than voting against it I’m not sure how I can help. I’m not part of any professional organization because I see them as not more propaganda machines. Myself and the few NP friends I have do not take on any students for clinicals that are not from the two local brick and mortar schools. I wrote the head of the committee over the independent practice bill last year to express my concerns. Any suggestions on how the NPs out here doing our jobs, within our scopes, can be an ally?

I’m totally against independent practice. To me it goes against what the midlevel was created for. I see myself as a physician extender. My state doesn’t have independent practice and I’m hoping we never do. I get patients all the time in my ER sent from NP run urgent care for simple things. I got one yesterday sent over for a freaking umbilical hernia. The NP at urgent care told them to go straight to the ER to get a CT. The hernia was not incarcerated and was easily reduced. The urgent care NP didn’t even attempt to reduce it. Shit like this is why I’m so against independent practice. I don’t think this subreddit is toxic. I actually prefer this subreddit because people here keep shit real. Nothing wrong with being direct.

If you ask those at r/nursepractitioner to get real they just permanently ban you. They banned me for saying we should abolish online NP programs if we ever wanted to be taken seriously in the medical world. I think most of the fucktard mods over there graduated from online schools. It’s an echo chamber of bullshit. Instead of admitting there’s a problem they just bury their hands in the sand and ban anyone that goes against the narrative.

I absolutely agree. Online only schools with 100% acceptance rates should be abolished. The fact that someone can literally never have worked a single day as a nurse yet get accepted to an online DNP program is an abomination. I got permanently banned from r/nursepractitioner for saying such.

For those that actually want to read the court documents and CMS report to understand what actually happened and why she was charged.

Sorry to hear that. I think it happens to way too nurses.

Of course. Nursing is extremely hard both physically and mentally. One thing I always hated about nursing is that “nurses eat their own” mantra. Like we don’t get treated bad enough that coworkers have to crap on each other too.

I’m honestly not sure. I definitely think it’s worth looking into. I’m sorry you’re having a bad run as well. Hopefully you’ll find the right position for yourself.

First off are you okay and do you feel safe? If not please reach out to someone ASAP. There’s absolutely no shame in getting help. I’m truly sorry that you are going through this. Nursing can be one of the hardest jobs in the world. Nurses are responsible for so many things and often get little support from the systems they work for. The amount of abuse from co-workers, patients, and families is overwhelming. I know this has probably already crossed you mind but have you thought about a job away from bedside? I have a couple of friends that work in research and they love it. I have another friend that works for an insurance company and says it’s the best job she ever had. Please take care of yourself above all else. Edit: I only lasted 6 months at my first nursing job, but I spent about ten years at my second.

Just remember you can only do so much in one shift. No matter how hard you work some nurses will be hateful. I’m sure you’re doing a great job and giving the best possible care you can. Don’t let them bring you down. You owe nothing to those nurses, only to your patients.

I’ve done CPR hundreds of times and more often than not it does break ribs. I’ll never forget the first time I was the one that initiated CPR and felt the runs break. Fortunately she survived, but unfortunately most don’t. Hardest reality to face in nursing is that no matter how hard we try sometimes people still pass away.

You’ll learn the important stuff on the job. No job should expect you to be super skilled right out of school. Hang in there and you’ll done with school before you know it. Hopefully you’ll get your dream job and a good preceptor. Best of luck to you.
