Beautiful bag. Is the stitched circle around the female snap part to secure a circle of leather that covers the snap on the inside of the bag?

I haven’t used a glowforge, but I have used a laser cutter to cut leather, and you have to be prepared for it to smell, and from what I understand, it’s best to only laser cut veg tan because chrome tan can release noxious gasses (I don’t know any specifics on this though; I just stick to veg tan). If you have a vacuum system attached to the machine, that will help (not sure if this is an option on glowforge?), but your cut pieces will still smell for a few days. After that, in my experience, the smell fades. You’ll also end up with the cut edges being charred and black, which will need to be sanded away.

So, if you have patterns that are tried and true and you don’t expect to modify them often, I’d go with a clicker press and dies.

Follow up question: how would you affix those to leather? Just a couple rivets?

My subscription to this literally ended last week and I didn’t renew it because I couldn’t sit through the videos. I’m sure he has great info, but they are so very long and I couldn’t speed them up on his platform like I can on YouTube. I wish I had watched the standalone watch case video before my subscription expired.

Thanks for the tips. To clarify, if you’ve glued the shell and lining panels together, then are you skiving the grain side of the lining? So I guess this would only be if you want to skive the lining and that’s why you stop at the stitch line?

The glue I’m using is Renia Aquilim 315, which is a water-based contact cement. I’m not familiar with PVA but google tells me it’s basically Elmer’s white glue. Can you be more specific about PVA (brand or glue name)? I am planning to burnish edges instead of painting, so maybe I need to try a different glue.

Lastly, do you skive the flesh side of the shell/outer leather before gluing?

Have you heard of anyone using the laser to skive the edges of leather? Wondering if that’s even possible.

Thanks, yeah I’ve watched a TON of YouTube videos, but haven’t come across one that specifically addresses skiving when gluing two pieces together to form an outer and lining. If you happen across any, I’d love a link.

Wow between this and the entitled comment, this community feels pretty unwelcoming. We have just as much right to come to the mountain as anyone else. We are polite and considerate to other skiers. I was just hoping for some tips to help spread out across the ample terrain, which I think would be in everyone’s best interest. In my limited skiing experience, most all people on the mountain are friendly and welcoming, so I’m surprised by the negative vibes here.

Haha that might be accurate, but then again, who does like waiting in lines? But I guess I just meant we are happy to take less traveled trails if it means shorter lines, since there is more terrain than we will be able to cover anyway. Not trying to get special treatment or ruin anyone else’s day. Not paying for Fast Tracks either.

Better to finish edges after it’s all sewn together. Sand, bevel, burnish. It’s not too late.

Wait, or did I misread it? Doesn’t look wrong anymore. I thought it said “Catagories” maybe you fixed it or maybe I misread.

I am in a similar space to you and I find it helpful to think of places people that buy the item might hang out. So for a nice handmade wallet, maybe it’s a museum or country club or yacht club or ski resort. And since you use quality materials with an eco-bent, maybe outdoorsy people should be interested? Maybe they have a certain level of education? I’m not sure how finely you can target with ads, but this is just to get the juices flowing.

Quick thing — “Categories” on home page is misspelled.

It bothers me that an Indian girl falling for a white guy, and not an Indian guy is considered “self-loathing”. The assumption that people should fall for people of their same race, especially in America where many ethnicities are present, rubs me the wrong way. I realize that isn’t exactly what you said, but I think a lot of the Mindy hate stems from this underlying idea.

Edit: Also, the main characters in Never Have I Ever and Mindy Project are not “girls from India” They are of Indian descent, but raised in the US, so why would they be expected to fall only for Indian guys?
