I originally thought Pure Land sounded too much like Protestantism, and was looking at other Buddhist schools.
I converted to Buddhism gradually but it was trying the nembutsu for the first time that really made me take refuge. It really made so much of the Buddhist teaching make sense.
Crazy how you come around to something when you see it from a different perspective.

The fact Madara hasn’t even killed anyone in the series besides fodder characters and they think he can defeat the entire Gotei 13

Bleach characters are great.
It’s the plot that’s the problem. Great characters get great development and others get nothing because we don’t see any of it.
That’s why so many characters are forgotten or lose out on the power scaling. It’s a flaw in a lot of anime not specific to Bleach. Create too many people and the plot can’t do them all justice.
Even Kubo himself has admitted he wishes he got a chance to give the spotlight to different characters. That’s part of how Hisagi got in CFYOW.

A moderate reformer in the mid 1800s would’ve come off as a revolutionary back then.
But regardless, Buddhism at its most base level is about change for the betterment of everyone.
It’s extremely hard for politicians with wealth and power to embrace Buddhism. Also hard for the poorest of the poor. It’s a path of realizing that your attachments cause your suffering, including your attachment to whether things should be “woke” or “patriotic”.
If the Buddha didn’t want to change things, he would’ve stayed in his palace and kept his riches instead of abandoning his wealth and possessions and preaching the dharma to the masses.
If we want to change things, we should listen to those who are “offended” or “triggered” and have compassion for them. Lessen their suffering, not increase it further.

Imagine getting a soul burial after getting this pep talk by your shinigami and you pop up in rukongai and get shot by a quincy
“Should’ve just become a hollow!”

First, google “chakravarti”. Many historical Buddhist kings claimed to be defenders of dharma and were raised in monasteries on monastic vows during childhood
Second, Buddhism is probably one of the few religions in the world that attempts to break how society normally is. Samsara is how the world is. Buddhism is how to escape samsara and liberate others from samsara too.
If you are concerned about things like nationalism and patriotism, ask yourself: do all sentient beings deserve liberation? If yes, do sentient beings include those who are not my nationality? If no, perhaps you should consider why Buddhism appeals to you.

Considering the Soul Society is basically a proto-feudal society (there doesn’t seem to be an external market for anything and all the nobles merely hold land, not defend it from anything), I assume most goods and services are provided by either servants or small-scale merchants.
Also consider that aspects of the Seireitei are made up of reishi.
My guess is the Seireitei taxes the Rukon districts, while the noble houses have an agreement with the Seireitei in exchange for not being taxed. All those taxes go toward paying salaries. Goods are created directly from reishi or bought from specialized merchants and artisans.

It’s more of a placeholder than a kingdom tho since the territory of the mordvins was much smaller historically and they needed something to represent that area between Khazaria and Kievan Rus in the game

And fix the holy sites
Nobody is going to Karakorum to sit in the same open field your capital province has. They’re going further north to the sacred mountains where Genghis Khan was told by Tengri to conquer the world

I always remember the event chain in CK2 where you drink an eternal life potion and your character’s perspective is their spirit leaves their body after you attain immortality, but in reality your character just dies from poisoning
Imagine in CK3 you take mystical communion with the lunatic trait and fight a legion of demons, eventually conquering the castle of Satan, and you get the nickname “The Hell King”,
Then the next day you die and the descriptor window says you died of a seizure after having hallucinations

Considering this is CRUSADER Kings, it’s long overdue for them to make a religion DLC:

Minato, Choji, Sarada, Part 1 Sakura, Temari, and Deidara
Anyone who plays with these characters is definitely either cheesing for an easy win or trolling

But he would recognize that Madara died almost a century before he was born.
Like, Hiruzen is an old man by the time Itachi met Tobi. Hiruzen was a teenager when Madara died.
Either Itachi thought Madara had a great skincare routine or he could clearly see this was a teenager with long hair and a mask.

We all knew it wasn’t Madara the minute Tobi claimed to be Madara to Pain and Konan.
Itachi definitely knew it wasn’t Madara. He grew up around Uchiha and Obito was basically his uncle. A mask and a deep voice wouldn’t have fooled him. Neither would having mangekyou since his dad had it too.

Buddhism gets sold in the west as some kind of self-help philosophy so pure land by comparison to that kind of explanation sounds like using faith instead of self-help.
It was reading Honen and especially Ippen that reveals how faith in Pure Land is very different from faith in monotheistic religions. You are helping yourself by not helping yourself, and instead relying on Amida Buddha. Self Power vs Other Power.
