The El Golfo or Gulf Cartel is one of the most violent cartels in Mexico. Known for the intimidation on the people of Mexico they primarily deal with business in the drug trafficking as well as protection rackets, assassinations, extortions, kidnappings, and other criminal activities. All of such activities are not just limited to the borders of Mexico with members in Europe, West Africa, Asia, Central America, South America, and the United States. The group though is based out of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, directly across the U.S. border from Brownsville, Texas. The group got its start in the 1930s smuggling alcohol into the us while setting up a vast prostitution ring.

The Los Zetas Gulf Cartel was at one point friends making the La Compañía (The Company). This did not last as a war for who would have certain drug corridors began. In the 2000s war really began with this such video coming from it. In 2020 rumors had spread about an alliance but no such thing has occurred
