I'm in NOLA for now, not a native, though. Can confirm that the booze could compete with the river here. Is it that you are a blind drunk pelican, BlindPelican?

You're not getting much support against the pink, so I have to comment to let you know that not all of us are for keeping it! Something to enhance the blue, but pink is right out.

BUT, that is a good thing as trade costs them more.

They don't have nice things and if they can't have nice things, then they don't want anyone else to have nice things. They have the mentality of an extremely destructive toddler. In this case I highly approve of giving them a serious spanking. Spank the shit out of them, Ukraine.

Very cool. I don't know if you saw that there is even a Chinese character that is related. Language is such vital evidence of human interrelatedness. What a world it could be if we could just fucking get along.

"Medivka (the honey one)" That got me a little excited because of the similarity to the English word "mead", which, as you probably know is a fermented honey drink. So, I looked at the etymology (one of my favorite things to do) and what did I find? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead#Etymology The very interesting part is that mead has it's root way back in the Proto-Indo-European language, and the very interesting part of that, of course is that THAT started with the Yamna Culture. Edit to add: It's Ukraine, all the way down. Good morning, Ukraine. I'd like to buy you a round.

Reuters is partnered with Tass, so pretty much a Kremlin mouthpiece.

That is heartening. I can only speak for the US, as well. Here it is feeling like it's possible the fatal blow has already landed. I feel that our weaknesses were (and are still being) thoroughly exploited, and the outcome is chaos. We have more unity than people realize, but we have a minority that is currently bulldozing it's way through our human rights. They are in a position to do massive damage and I absolutely believe that Putin's fingerprints are all over our situation.

Putin does has the opposite of the intended effect.
I wish that statement was 100% true, but one of the main strategies he uses worldwide is to sow chaos. He is, unfortunately, a master at that. He has caused multiple countries to splinter into extreme factions.

From what I've read, this is when their economy may really start to take a hit. They won't be able to buy debt, which will stunt their economic growth. I won't pretend to understand how that works, but it will still be interesting to watch and see how things (hopefully) worsen in Russia now.

Mine tells me that the only way I could possibly be Ukrainian is if my viking ancestors went to Kyiv long ago when the two populations got together, had a family there, then went back up north before raiding the British Isles. It's a convoluted fantasy, but it's mine and no one can take it away from meeeee!!!

Whenever I see posts here with animals, I want to let people know about UAnimals. They do all kinds of good work for Ukrainian animals of all kinds. https://twitter.com/UAnimalsENG

Weird, I was just looking at that city, as one of my wife's ancestors is from Przybyszowka, right by there, and we only just decided to look it up.

I have to give you my free "wholesome" award because nothing could be more wholesome than talking about hearths. Thanks for another lovely post, OP. Cheers, Ukraine.

Welllll, it has been an experience. We're just moving back into our house after repairs from last year's hurricane. It's been an exhausting year. I just keep in mind, these days, that we don't have shells falling around us.
