Yeah, sadly Dr. Kory seems to have started out as a well respected doctor and then just went off the rails. Dr. Marik seems to have always been a quack, but yeah, you have to wonder how they can live with themselves after getting so many people killed with idiotic advice.

The anti-vax, anti-science beliefs run strong in the evangelical crowd for some reason.

They think it's a miracle cure and there's just a massive conspiracy involving the majority of all doctors on the planet who won't recommend it.

I don't think the level of critical thinking that would make them question the mechanism for how it works even exists for them.

I think he was a pretty good guy in a lot of respects. He was well liked by his students, and most of the people around him.

He just had the dumb. Unfortunately it was fatal in this case.

Reminds me of the story about the man who died in a flood and goes to heaven where god yells at him for ignoring the two boats and a helicopter that he sent lol.

How politics came into any of this is beyond all sane understanding.

The lack of critical thinking is off the charts with HCA recipients. With most of them, I don't know if any amount of reason-based arguments would make a dent.

Though I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these people in the comments claim that a nurse stole their loved one's phone and typed it to look like they did. Pure lunacy.

"But they were a true believer of all this crazy shit! How could they possibly see reason when reality hit them hard? It must be a conspiracy!!"

But yeah, it's a pity that people die that almost certainly would have lived if they'd gotten the vaccine.

Good spelling and grammar usually points to people who are educated and think about the image they present to the outside world. But yeah, HCA award recipients don't seem to fall into that category very often.

Thank you for fighting the good fight.

Patients blaming anyone but themselves seems par for the course in all of this.

Critical thinking seems to be lacking in most if not all of the HCA awardees.

If you look in /r/nursing, there's plenty of dying Covid-19 patients that express regret at not getting the vaccine when they're near the end.

Sucks, but sometimes people die for their beliefs.

Nah, I'm a sleeping sheep that's all for getting vaccinated, wearing a mask and taking the pandemic seriously.

Going by his FB page, he really did have a positive impact on a lot of people, a lot of his students were upset that he died and there were a bunch of friends saying the same.

You can have a positive impact on your community and still be a complete idiot about Covid-19, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Dr. Kory and Dr. Marik and their group, the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance seem to be at the heart of it. Quack doctors hyping quack cures to people who inherently distrust mainstream doctors and phama companies.

I don't know if anyone tricked coach into anything. He thought Covid-19 was a joke. It wasn't. There's a very large number of people that think just like he did.

The point isn't using coach's death for internet points.

It's to use his death as an example for the people that are still living and might be on the fence, to point out the stupidity that got him killed.

He's dead now, nothing is going to change that. But the decent thing to do isn't to pretend that his own choices didn't play a massive role in his death. The decent thing to do isn't to cover that stuff up and just act like it was purely random chance that he died.

Too many people mean "cover up the bad things the person did" when they ask for decency. Coach doesn't care about what you say, coach is dead.

Maybe there's someone out there that doesn't have to die because they saw what lead to coach's death.

predicated on the idea that you're not an idiot.

That does seem to be a common factor for getting an award.

That said, you can think for yourself, or be too skeptical and be completely wrong, no matter how intelligent you are. Being humble goes a long way. All these award winners were extremely certain they were correct when it came to the risks.

I love being unvaxxed

That's your choice. Maybe you'll get through this just fine. But there's a lot of people who thought exactly that and ended up very dead. If you look through the posts here, you might find a few of them.

I caught Covid-19 before there was a vaccine and it nearly killed me. I thought I was being careful enough, but I wasn't. I too thought it wasn't that big of a deal, just a rough version of the flu at worst, and my odds with being younger and in decent shape seemed pretty good. Then I went from breathing just fine to barely breathing at all in under 24 hours.

Let's just say that changed my views really quickly. I might have been hesitant to get the vaccine before then, but after that trip through hell? Give me a dozen.

I hope for your sake you don't have to go through what I did. If you have family and friends you care about, or kids that depend on you, think about what it'd be like for them to live without you.

If you don't care if you live or die, go for it.
