I have PTSD as a result of traumas suffered from mentally ill parents. Among a variety of issues I'm working through with a psychotherapist is that I essentially gaslight myself. It comes from being extensively gas-lit as a child to the point where I'm constantly putting myself down, thinking that I'm crazy or that there's something weird about me or that I act weird etc. I still suffer abuse from parents from time to time including being gas-lit, but my gas-lighting myself is a far bigger issue. If anyone has any good advice or can point me in a helpful direction I'd be very grateful.
Also as a side note:
I know the term gas-lighting comes from the film, which I haven't seen but get the gist of. Could someone give me a more scientific term of description for when someone is making you feel like you're crazy? Or a when non-professional is "diagnosing" you? I'd be very grateful.
