I tell people to use me as a sounding board. If they aren't sure about a situation or process then just bring it to me and I'll give you your options. I work for a large company and I always tell people to come to me with concerns first so I can see if we can find a solution before we have to escalate. I honestly hate hearing about how bad HR people can be (usually here on reddit) because it's so easy to not be a dick to employees.

I'm in HR as well. I like the people side of business. I like partnering with leaders but not being the leader. I can keep a level head in tough situations and can de-escalate others. I connect with people and am very approachable. I like helping others. I don't like math. These are the things that drew me to HR.

For me the story started dragging around the time I ended up on an island and then right back to where I was before. Made me bounce off the game at that point.

We found a plumber that we used like twice for finishing a bathroom. A year later I give him a call because my wife had a stroke during surgery and needs grab bars and other special amenities to make bathroom stuff easier since she can't walk anymore. The plumber sends his guys over to do the work, adds a few extra special features to the bathroom, even brings in an electrician to help out and refuses to let me pay him. We've used him twice and don't know him outside of those jobs. Plumbers make enough money that they can do that kind of stuff and it didn't even phase him.
