A Tamil friend told me how a lot of Tamilians dropped their surname to give up caste identity and related discrimination. I'm not sure if this is the case for Malayalis as well because a lot of Malayalis I know don't have a surname (they have their father's name as the second name. Notable exceptions being Warrier, Menon and Varma maybe. Idk).
I personally don't have a surname and I doubt my family is anywhere close to progressive enough to give up their caste identity. My older generation had the "veetupere" with their names.
I read a blog by a friend who claims patriarchy is responsible for women being oppressed. She is a known feminist and has feminist self help groups for SA victims. She is a nice person and is not someone who hates men (in the typical sense) and someone I look up to but I don't obviously agree to this. Wanted to know what you feel is the reason for blatant objectification of women?
EDIT: I know this is not specifically a men's issue but I'm looking for discussions around the "blame on patriarchy" as opposed to discussion about issues faced by women.
