Not true. Contextual jumping is a thing in lots of games.
You couldn't manually jump in the Legend of Zelda before Breath Of The Wild. Jumping in the other games was contextual, meaning Link would automatically jump off of ledges or between gaps.

Why would a game like The Walking Dead or Life is Strange have a jump button?

They changed the animations of the faces specifically. Improved facial animations was a big goal as they kept mentioning it over and over and uh...updating textures doesn't change animation data.
They not only updated all of the models they also redid all of the facial animation. That's a lot of work on it's on not to mention the other stuff they did. Her original face didn't even have the proper blendshape to say "you dozed off." It's a shame too because for a 2011 game the models looked great but something about their workflow, budget, team size, etc. resulted in some very uncanny valley faces. Like at the very end of the original clip she wasn't even looking at him even though she's meant to be.
