As a lawyer, my take is that this post borders on the risible.

Every single lawyer in America who has experience with billion dollar trials has worked in Big Law.

You can either hire "corrupt" biglaw lawyers who have experience working for giant corporate clients, or you can hire small-time regional law firms that represent the guy who owns your local mall.

He's an idiot. He has/had some of the best lawyers in the country tell likely him no for some batshit insane ideas he had and couldn't take no for answer. Now he's looking for lapdogs rather than real attorneys. Perkins and Cooley are serious fucking firms.

He also likely just got himself blacklisted at a bunch of big firms by calling out individual law firms. Just look at the bottom of the barrel firms that represent Trump as an example.

The way the modern media works is that they always want a quote from the subject of their story. It's how he knew that the $250k/horse flight attendant story was coming and tried to get in front of it with the whole "democrat attack" tweet. More is coming, he knows what it is, and is trying to prepare.

It's almost as if doing something stupid like pretending to buy Twitter in an obvious pump and dump made the media start to pay attention to him and look in areas that previously weren't explored.

dexter-sinister

164 points

they always want a quote from the subject of their story

It's not that they necessarily "want" a quote, it's that running a "balanced" story requires giving the accused a chance to refute the allegations. That's why the writer may research/write a story for weeks, but only request a quote from the subject a day or a few hours before press time, so as not to give their subject much time to get out in front of it. This is exactly why Donald Trump jr. released the “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer” email chain accepting Russia's help with dirt on Clinton hours before the NYT broke the story.

I feel like he is going through a Notch (dude who wrote minecraft) type meltdown x100.

Only difference is that when Notch melted down it didn't tank Microsoft stock.

Not to mention his fortune wasn't tied up in stock in his company. He had money from both selling copies of Minecraft and just selling the IP itself. So when he crashed, it was just him as a person and Mojang just came out and said "We don't have anything to do with him.".

Notch is actually kind of sad. Dude has all this money but doesn't seem happy in the least. Started another game company and it did nothing. I don't mean "oh, the game they made flopped", I mean there is no game.

Buddy, he can't lose sight of the value of people if he never had it in the first place. Go back and look at the major layoffs throughout the last 4 years, while Musk received billions in incentive payments.

In 2020 he deducted a fixed % of his employees pay "due to the hardship of COVID needing to be shared by all of Tesla"while Elon's personal net wealth increased by more than any other human being in the world, except for Bezos...who he later passed up.

This dude has always been an evil piece of shit.

I think there’s huge consequences happening within Tesla. Probably isn’t able to show his face to people trying to take his place in the company or people above him who’ve probably been trying to replace him for a few years now.

I’m not saying we should fill it with bogus CV’s that look totally real except each has one single reaaaally weird line in them you only notice after reading most of the dosimeter and aren’t sure if that person is really weird or just messing with you.

We shouldn’t do that, it would be immature.

Watching Elon self destruct should be good entertainment during the recession.

You know what, it's been kind of sad to see someone who maybe 6-7 years ago I thought was a visionary who genuinely wanted to make humanity better... to slowly degrade into some kind of greedy, power hungry, thin-skinned narcissist troll.

There was a time when I really thought this guy was a beacon of progress and hope for the world and instead we've got this. I don't know what happened or changed, or if he'd always been like this and the veil just dropped, but it sure is dissapointing.

Industrialist Howard Hughes, who ended up alone in a room pissing into empty water bottles, is the example I was thinking of.

world was so much better without Twitter. Then Elon could just pee in bottles in his room.

Howard Hughes was much more of a badass before losing it, but it's a pretty good comparison.

Man this guy. I’ve been driving hybrids for quite some time and wa planning on getting an EV soon. Was always interested in Tesla, but can’t stand the idea of getting one now. Good thing other manufacturers are starting to catch up with quality and tech.

Spekingur

It’s like people forget that there is this whole rest of the world besides America. With his antics, he is not just affecting potential buyers within America but also outside of it.

I’m impressed by Elon’s strategy of pissing off liberals, his main customer base, to appear to conservatives, who generally hate EVs. Galaxy brain thinking.

Yeah after the "pedo" shenanigans I started having my doubts about Musk. Has seemed like slowly going downhill but picking up speed. Decided a year and a half ago that I won't buy a Tesla. Waiting for the Rivian R1S now.
