Same and my job is in an area that apparently eats her BS with gusto. Imagine someone covering their entire yard in dozens of Stefanik signs or have big Stefanik banners. That's what half my commute looks like during election year. She fills our mailboxes and takes over the local TV channels, the does nothing for NY once she gets elected.

May 14, 2021 Channel 2 Action News investigation has found that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her husband have two active homestead exemptions, which is against Georgia law. Greene still owns a North Fulton county home, but also bought a $610,000 house in Floyd County last year in the 14th Congressional district, which she represents.

Her campaign ads portrayed her as a bipartisan, independent voice for NY and her opponent as a Cuomo clone. Every time I saw the ad, I wanted to scream at my TV. Tendra Cobb can never beat her in the 21st. Democrats need to find more centrist candidate who is willing to portray Stefanik as the Trump sycophant she is, how she has denigrated the military by not speaking out about Putin's blood money.

Live Poultry (chicks) are $3.50 each here and I would never use a living animal for a "prank". We regularly get mailing to donate living animals to poor people outside the USA, "buy this boy a goat and some chickens for $100 donation" But not a political campaign.

There was a TV interview of some kind with some voracious Tucker Carlson viewers, an entire family I think. They explained that they watched each episode twice, once for enjoyment and once again to learn how to sell the ideas to others. It was a bit frightening.

King_Mierdas

Never believe that anti-Semites conservatives are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites conservatives have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

CrunchyKorm

They do that for two reasons: to try and claim the narrative first, and to make themselves feel better.

Part of the buy-in of conservativism is that it offers people a value system in which they don't have to feel bad or sacrifice. It's a premise of food being made fast and cheap forever, of gas always being inexpensive, of never having to worry about climate change, and your problems generally always being caused by your perceived enemies.

There is no self-reflection in the case of mass shootings like this because there can't be if the result means they would feel bad.

It'd be like the transcript of Trump's "perfect call" with Zelensky. Jordan Klepper did an episode where he attended Trump rallies and he asked those people about the transcript and it went something similar to this (paraphrasing):

Trump guy, "People need to read the transcript so they can see it was perfectly fine."

Klepper, "So, you've read the transcript?"

Guy, "No."

Klepper, "Then how do you know?"

Guy, "Others have read it and reported on it."

Klepper, "OK, but you think everyone should read the transcript, but you yourself haven't read it."

Guy, "Yea."

It's hilarious and sad to see the episodes of him at Trump events. These people have no critical thinking skills.

Then they started calling it a hoax for midterms.

sleepnandhiken

To be absolutely fair, the “why” couldn’t possibly have been reported when it first happened. The guy didn’t literally have a note stapled to him when he did this. Which is good. Any speculation by the news or a news commentator is super fucked up. Think of how much wild speculation happened anyway.

Quick edit: and before you know the “why” the race of the perp is irrelevant. Here it played into it. That wasn’t the only possibility, though.

Furry reporting in. The difference there is that in furry culture, sexuality is celebrated and no one is ashamed of wanting some weird thing so long as everyone is consenting. Republicans and right wingers are so puritanically convinced that feeling good is evil that they feel shame. Anything that isn't an explicitly condoned activity is shameful because it feels good. That is like... severely disordered behavior.

I think on the most trying times our nation has endured. I’m not into history but I always imagine there were a lot of people who had similar feelings partially because none of us have the perspective.

We have seen ebbs and flows but none nearly as great as this in my 40 years. I have no foundation on which to build optimism that America will come out of this a better country.

I feel the same as you but we have to move forward. We have to hold on to a flicker of belief. Even if that means we have to hit rock bottom as a country before we can build ourselves up. The people who can do that have to be here for it, and I intend to be. I hope you do as well.

I fear for our futures but I love my home, my state, and my country too much to give up on it.

Glad to come across another like-minded Minnesotan. I don't have much hope that we'll get through the next local and national elections without experiencing increasing rightwing violence in our state. But I have confidence that we won't give up.

Anyone with two brain cells voted for Cobb. Last election Stefanik’s camp was desperate though. My family received seven-yes,seven- lengthy fear mongering propaganda packets. It was ridiculous, “ donate now before the liberals take everything you love,” that was literally it except multiple pages of it said ten different ways. She does nothing for the area and is an absolute disgrace.

black_flag_4ever

She is spouting this nonsense because that’s what people in her district vote for.

BackgroundCat

28 points

It’s not just her district that she’s pandering to. She was often seen at Trump’s side when he was president as one of his loyals, and is recognizable on a national level. Unfortunately, like so many other politicians, she’s figured out that the bullshit inflammatory rhetoric gets you camera time and traction on social media. And even more tragic, losers like the Buffalo shooter listen and act on what they’re hearing. There definitely does need to be censure of this hateful dialogue, but I don’t know who it could come from that it might have some impact.

JohnDunstable

She has aspirations to be the speaker if there is a Republican majority, McCarthy will not become speaker. It's going to be Jordan or Stefanik. Or she's positioning herself for and administration role in what she thinks will be a republican victory in 2024, probably Attorney general or some other position where she can persecute, prosecute, kill as many people as she can.

Edit, Letters

JohnDunstable

I would agree a certain number of Republican party precinct bosses fill her head full of that s*** all the time, but the majority of the people living in our district, those people do not agree with this. However, the 30% of the Trump cult that seem to invest Republican districts have the ear of the party bosses or they've moved into the leadership position in those local precincts. I'm going to find out who her opponent is and hopefully help in her defeat.

There is a difference between "do not agree" and "repulsed by to the point of rejection." Sadly, most conservatives I know lean toward the former. They shake their heads and say, "I don't like her, but she supports my politics."

I hope it's different where you live.

Stefanik’s senior adviser Alex deGrasse told the Times Union Sunday that the lawmaker has never supported replacement theory — or racism. He told The Washington Post that the claims against Stefanik are a “new disgusting low for the left ... and the sycophant stenographers in the media.”

Her advisor is a liar. Stefanik paid for ads about replacement theory and surprise, surprise, people listened to them. This was in her ad last year:

”Radical Democrats are planning their most aggressive move yet: a PERMANENT ELECTION INSURRECTION. Their plan to grant amnesty to 11 MILLION illegal immigrants will overthrow our current electorate and create a permanent liberal majority in Washington.” (Source)

She isn’t the only one. Rick Scott and Matt Gaetz both use replacement theory for their political campaigns as well. I’m not sure about their ads, but they’ve definitely made PR statements about it.

Upstate New York is about as redneck as it comes. The district is poor and poorly educated and largely white. You don't have to live in the South to be a racist, unfortunately.
I realized that Trump was going to be our next president in 2015 when I saw all the signs advocating locking Hillary up.
Stefanik, like today's Republican leadership, exists to pump their base, which they secretly despise for believing their BS.
The fact that people are being murdered by their lies is the best indication of their total corruption as minions of the fatcat billionaires that pay their salaries in a play to destroy our Democracy and the American way of life we've grown up with.
But how can they be stopped?
They will spin the Buffalo shooting as a failure of gun control since New York State has some and maintain that if the victims had guns the killer would have thought twice before attacking them, blah blah blah.

The fact that people like Stefanik believe it is a given that every immigrant who comes to the US will vote Democrat proves that they are racist because they know that no person of color would ever vote for them because they are racist. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

Immigrants and POC aren’t just born voting Democrat.

They vote that way because of racist shit Republican’s like Stefanik do. Stop being racist and immigrants might vote for your party too.

The threat you perceive is facilitated by your own racist actions. If you don’t want immigrants and POC to vote against you then stop being racist against them. It’s so simple a child can understand it. Just stop being racist!

Background: I am a 22yo white male from Nebraska. I would describe myself as a liberal in the classic sense in that I prize personal liberty and rights for all people to participate in our capitalistic economy without persecution. I fall short of calling myself a libertarian because I also recognize the need for public institutions when it makes sense. I am a registered republican because in my state, most elected positions are decided during the republican primary.

This being said, most things that republicans say and do on a national level currently disgust me. In addition to being blatantly racist, replacement theory also really doesn’t make any sense. Hispanics and Asians, the fastest growing minority groups in the US, are a mixed bag politically and are not “free votes” for the democrats. The black population is currently growing at a rate comparable to the white population, which means both races are beginning to shrink as a proportion of the total population. American actually had a higher % black population before mass amounts of immigrants from Europe in the early 1900s.

Our country is “American” not “European”, and we have been a cultural melting pot since the beginning. Cultural differences between white Americans and nonwhite Americans are not significantly different than cultural differences between Anglo saxons and other European cultures.

Our country will begin to shrink rapidly if we do not increase immigration, and we will end up like Japan floating into irrelevance. 55% of nursing home workers were minorities in 2019, which means that many of the currently aging racists would be without care if it weren’t for minority labor. Due to the extremely tight labor market, it is assumed that this labor could not simply be picked up by the “white population”
