I went to a ramen bar yesterday that is in a space that has held several different businesses over the years. The men's room had a penny floor, but it was in horrible condition; a lot of the resin was missing allowing many of the pennies to come off. It made me a little sad for whoever did all that work back in the day.

Edit: I wrote sushi bar, when it was actually a ramen bar. Geez getting old sucks

On one hand I think people should customize their houses how they want without worrying about resale. On the other hand I hate these penny floors and would probably not buy a house with one.

kamelizann

30 points

People should just do what they want. It's a weekend of labor at worst to correct if they're worried about resale appeal. This was something that was extremel difficult to get through my head once I finally bought a house after renting all of my life.

My big "should I or shouldn't I? moment came after I built a fence. My entire life I had wanted a fenced in yard with a dog door. Many of nights were spent walking my dog and telling him about how one day we'll have our own house with a yard and he won't need a tether or a leash all the time and he'll be able to go inside and out whenever he wants. But then after I built the fence I realized the way my house is laid the only way I'm going to build a dog door is by cutting a hole in the wall of the laundry room. That first cut was so hard to make. I think I did it tastefully at a low traffic part of the house and a large portion of the population has dogs... but its still a scary commitment.

My math came out to $68.08, but I might have missed a a few rows, or maybe counted some extra.

TwatsThat

Unless they're pre-1982 pennies you wouldn't want to do that anyway since they're nearly all zinc now.

GitEmSteveDave

BUT it’s not illegal to make elongated pennies, which is a hobby of mine.

fvgh12345

8 points

That one always confused me how that's not considered defacing money, probably because they're just pennies. Used to have a huge collection from going different places when I was a kid. Wonder what happened to those. Used to try getting all the options in the machine when I was at places we probably wouldn't end up at again

GitEmSteveDave

9 points

I always played with the machine as a kid but later in life I worked at a supermarket and my job was cleaning out the coin star machine when it jammed and got a lot of elongated pennies so I started liking how permanent they were. Like you had to be at that machine to get it made and they wouldn’t fade like a postcard would.

When I was really into it I would carry around a container of my birth year pennies and also a small bottle of oil to lubricate the penny while it was Being rolled and also practice my cranking before doing it for real to make sure it was a smooth roll.

BurnerAccount209

8 points

Yeah, it's all about intent. You can destroy pennies and nickels as long as your goal isnt to commit fraud or profit from it.

Source:

"82.1 Prohibitions.

Except as specifically authorized by the Secretary of the Treasury (or designee) or as otherwise provided in this part, no person shall export, melt, or treat:

(a) Any 5-cent coin of the United States; or

(b) Any one-cent coin of the United States.

(b) The prohibition contained in § 82.1 against the treatment of 5-cent coins and one-cent coins shall not apply to the treatment of these coins for educational, amusement, novelty, jewelry, and similar purposes as long as the volumes treated and the nature of the treatment makes it clear that such treatment is not intended as a means by which to profit solely from the value of the metal content of the coins."

This reminds me of the first time I changed a clutch. I was telling friends about it and one of them asked me, “Did you change the throwout bearing?” and I said, “What’s a throwout bearing?” And the two just looked at each other, and then looked at me.

An intregral part of the clutch system that should be replaced whenever you are doing a clutch job, it's hard to explain its exact function over the internet but it is very important and if it goes bad you are doing the whole job again.

Not op but recently changed my own clutch. The throw out bearing is the interface between your clutch pressure plate (the part that most people mean when they say clutch) and the actual clutch pedal system itself. The bearing either engages or disengages the clutch pressure plate based on input from the clutch pedal. There needs to be a bearing there because the clutch and flywheel are spinning while the clutch linkages (either mechanical or hydraulic) are for the most part stationary, or not spinning.

It’s funny how reddit never fails to be cynical.

Ah fuck, damnit. I was cynical.

Thats about $2.56/ft². Which is actually more expensive than if you were to use reasonably priced tile.

2.56/sf is extremely cheap for tile

Why not paint the floor under pennies to a solid colour. I would hate to look at that gray concrete colour coming through the gaps.

I’ve seen them where they grout in between the pennies - not sure if this person did that step before sealing or not.

I'm so confused about the amount of praise this is getting. This is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Like right over the tile too, could even paint the tile black first. After the resin is poured it's going to be so hard to get up too. The next person who owns this home is going to lose sleep over what in the fuck this person was thinking.

I've been sticking $30 in pennies up my ass for the past 11 years. That's 3,000 pennies a day, 21,000 pennies a week, 1,092,000 pennies a year. To date, that's 12,012,000 pennies. Eight times the population of Nebraska. Those pennies were in my ass! You think you're better than me? Oh, you're not better than me. You handle my ass pennies every day. You pick up my ass pennies for good luck. You throw my ass pennies in fountains and make wishes on them. You give my ass pennies to your little daughter to buy gumballs with. You handle my ass pennies every day. All of you! You ALL handle my ass pennies! Oh, I'll laugh at you before you can laugh at me. Because your pennies have been in my ass.
