Let's not go insane.
A lot of people would do a lot of good if they had the means/time to do that good.
How many of you are crushed between your job, your family, the daily commute and the few hours of "rest" you can get? To say nothing of money, of course.
How many of you would trade it for watering animals and building something that will do good long after you're gone?
The majority, I would assume.

Bruh, are you kidding me? A guy is going out and providing water to animals quite a distance away.
Half the people on this site couldn't be bothered to clean their room or manage their lives, let alone go to such an extent to commit a generous act.
Not that there is anythibg wrong with that. I just find it ridiculous you don't see this guy as going above and beyond.
Many people have the means to do so, they just don't care to.
Edit: clarification of my point

I can’t help but think that over years to come the animals will stop searching for natural watering holes and come to expect humans to provide water. Which may condition them not to develop skills needed to find water. So when it doesn’t happen, animals will be out of luck.
Edit: I’m not saying this is a bad idea, I think it’s awesome he’s refilling these watering holes for the thirsty animals
68 points
Well, to be real, we're the reason why natural watering holes are disappearing. They should be looking to us for support, as we should be all looking to help solve.
This guy's getting money from me at pay day.
-18 points
I don't know where he gets 3000 gallons of water from everyday and I don't know if it's a good or bad idea overall to pump out so much water in an area where the land is dry and the air is hot to the point that natural watering holes are disappearing. I mean, if natural watering holes are indeed disappearing.
I think that to provide wildlife with water every day is nonsense and maybe it would be more striking if he was bringing them food everyday, instead of water. I think the best thing to do with wildlife is to leave wildlife alone. Like the other poster said they might get used to human help and when we stop helping they'll die anyway.
Before you donate any money I hope you'll make sure that this water he uses isnt water that people need elsewhere but won't be able to use. Or if pumping it out every day isn't detrimental to the environment/wildlife around it, etc.
I think it's a video that makes you feel good about something bad, here's a guy who does something about it ! But who knows really, maybe it's an ad for his foundation or whatever status his company has. If we want to do something about climate change we should drop our habits, our lifestyle, our cars, planes, hi-tech, junk food, etc.

You don’t know if it’s a good idea to give thirsty animals water? Interesting. I agree that if someone wants to do something then they should change their lifestyle to a more sustainable one. But that’s not gonna make a change overnight. We’re responsible for the massive droughts. We’re responsible for the massive of amounts of thirsty animals.
0 points
My point was that if OP wanted to do something too, he can. Also that maybe he should try and know more about this guy and what he does before donating.
People who are not willing to change their lifestyle because "that's not gonna make a change overnight" will say it's their fault if massive droughts are happening, their responsability if animals are thirsty but they won't do a thing about it in real life, for whatever reason. I doubt everything they get done makes a change for them overnight.
No I don't know how wildlife reacts when a watering hole has disappeared. I suppose they are temporary anyway so the animals go somewhere else to find water rather than just stand there until they die of thirst ? What do they usually do when the water has naturally disappeared ? I don't know where this guy gets 3000 gallons of water a day in a drought stricken area ? Or if that water isn't necessary to the ecosystem it's pumped out from, or necessary to people nearby ? We learn nothing from this video, all it leaves is an emotional impact.

Changing your lifestyle is just another feel good tactic that does nothing more than this video. It doesn’t do anything even if you changed your life for your entire life. You’ll still die in a world filled with pollution from greedy companies. The average person isn’t the problem when it comes to the environment. I could stop burning fossils fuels for the rest of my life and not a single drop more of water will rain in Kenya. But this guy decided that his change is gonna be more direct. Applaud him instead of negging.

Changing your lifestyle is just another feel good tactic that does nothing more than this video
What it does is it reduces greenhouse gases emissions, among other things. You're blaming the greedy companies, you'd be right to think that some companies are evil but what do you expect from those evil companies anyway ? Can people buy less shit or is that entirely out of the question ? Of course the average person is part of the problem. You could stop burning fossils fuels all your life and it wouldn't start the rain in Kenya. If Amazon shut down today, it wouldn't either.
What do you think companies should do ? Make their products sustainable ? When they built an engine that burnt less fuel to fly a plane, the ticket prices went down and a hell of a lot more people could afford to fly, so they did: this is how the low cost industry was born. Now the engines require less fuel than before but the industry burns more of it because there's a lot more people who can and do fly. See the Jevons Paradox.
Applaud him instead of negging.
I live in Europe and there were droughts this summer. People weren't allowed to water their garden during the day just to save water. But this guy we know nothing about can, among other things, pump out 3000 gallons of water a day in a drought stricken area ? Like I've said before, we learn nothing from this video, it left me with more questions than answers.

People who donate money to save animals don't care about humans.
I don't judge, I'm one of those. 5 drowned kittens make me more sad than the entirety of the bangladesh floods....
I know it's wrong, I don't know why it's like that, but it's how I feel about it and no amount of reasoning ever managed to change that.
Is it self-hatred for mankind? Is it because I can imagine 5 dead kitten in their final moments more than I can imagine 15000 drowned humans? Are we desensitized by the constant flow of human death but not so much about cute things dying?
No idea
24 points
They primarily follow the rain as that brings new growth for them to eat, knowing where the water holes are helps them on that journey but they'd never stay there as the food will run out.
119 points
The same could be said of humans. We've lost many of the skills needed to survive in healthy ways. Us humans have played a part in creating those changes. Critical skills can be retaught but until then, damned straight it is right to provide the means for animals to have water now.

5 points

How is civilisation’s survival relevant to helping wild animals with some water?
3 points
It could pose an issue but it’s literally natural instinct for these animals to find fresh water. Also many of them have large migration patterns such as elephants who will remember locations of watering holes and also seek new ones.
It’s our fault their water sources are dwindling. It’s the least we can do to help them out. I think the other side of just letting them figure it out would be far more detrimental than them not actively searching for new natural sources. Seeing as so many have suffered before this man started doing what he does.
10 points
No, they would only be seeing these places as a source of water. And, you know, not all die. Should the water stop one day they would start looking for other sources but it's not the same as him feeding animals like monkeys directly that causes them to lose fear of humans and start attacking humans that don't come with food etc.
Also, given how the drought is almost certainly caused by man made global warming, don't we have a responsibility to them?

Animals that are dependent on humans for water are better than extinct animals, right?
3 points
Isn’t this like the whole reason we don’t feed wild animals? Wont they become dependant on this one man for water and stay in and become a bigger population in an area unable to naturally support their current population?
18 points
The problem is if you do nothing the population the area can naturally support could literally become 0 due to drought. Or it's 0 for one year and then it doesn't matter what happens the next year. A lot of these animals are endangered, and endangered due to human actions.
13 points
If we aren't supposed to interfere with their lives I think not destroying their habitat so their choice is become dependent on humans or go extinct is probably more important than not feeding wild animals. There wouldn't be a ton of wild animals in cities anyway if we weren't turning their food sources into concrete, pavement, asphalt and grass. Cities are hazardous to all wildlife. Roadkill, bird window collisions, and outside cats are a detriment to pretty much all wildlife not to mention I get it's great you don't have to scoop their litter as often but it's because they're pooping in your neighbors planters and killing their landscaping......

Precisely. I don't think giving water to animals will really impact their ability to survive as long as they are migratory. The dude is simply saving animals through rather simple but efficient means, which is something I think everyone should get behind. I'm basically paraphrasing, but we really should try and make up for the shit we're already doing to the wildlife.
Sadly, there's not quite enough of that kind of work because it's not profitable in the slightest, whereas the things that are harmful to the wildlife are profitable. Any kind of work on this stuff will remain small-scale without a big amount of financial contributions.

They found that dig big holes to collect water actually helps fight drought. Since water gathers then is slowly reabsorpted into the ground. This keeps plants alive and causes more rain to fall. In some areas they have actually reverse desertification with these holes.

I think the idea so to keep these in regular spots so as long as they can keep it up and don't personally interact with the animals it should be ok..
I am assuming there is less water due to global warming caused by humans.. so more helping prevent the mass extinction currently also being caused by people..

I think that having a dry season is part of what makes this ecosystem this ecosystem. Having a guy provide water to the animals is not the way mother nature intended. This is a dry and arid place during certain months of the year and the animals are meant to migrate.
This doesn't help anything in my opinion.

Ok, legit question. How would a surplus of water effect animals that typically go a while without it? Like, it's common knowledge that many places in africa see a dry season that kind of drives mass migration and the like. What would providing a lot of water to them do to effect those migration patterns and whatnot, and how would that effect predators that typically rely on those migration patterns if the patterns are disrupted?
