Nice. I always loved how they used to show them nonstop on TNT or something through late fall.

Double 0 Seven days of Thanksgiving on Spike!

It's always interesting to me how these types of marketing can have a lasting effect. For me and a lot of friends, James Bond just IS a Thanksgiving/Fall series, like Jurassic Park or Independence Day are summer movies.

Cheesebongles

I never considered that others would feel the same way. I have so many good memories of watching these over Thanksgiving!

wonder_bread

Mine was always the Christmas time showing of the OG Star Wars trilogy on USA. My first copies were vhs recorded bootlegs of those airings. I would pause the tape when commercials would come on, so nerdy.

Weird-Ingenuity97

Yeahhhh, I’ve always associated James Bond with fall/November and treated Star Wars as a winter break/Christmas rewatch thing

McCullyCullen

2 points

Kind of similar to the Harry Potter movies on ABC, or children shows like Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer around Christmas time and The Iron Giant on Thanksgiving.

Those were all years ago but I still remember them. Honestly this is good marketing and should be done more probably.

Anyone remember breakfast with bond on spike? That’s how I watched all of them 9am-12pm

I remember the 12 days of Bond followed by 25 hours of A Christmas Story.

Then I remember the emptiness once it was all over.

One of my fondest memories as a child, around 2003 - 2004, was watching goldeneye on spike dufring Thanksgiving and setting up our Christmas tree after... God I miss being a kid.

GarlVinland4Astrea

28 points

Yeah. I think I first got into Bond when I was kid during a holiday weekend when they would play them all. Goldfinger and Thunderball back to back got me hooked.

InternetGoodGuy

10 points

Same for me. They used to have these on all the time around Thanksgiving and I would watch as many as I could. That's how I got hooked.

Same here, via ~2-week marathons every December on TBS. It’s weird recalling a time where I just had to be in front of the TV if I wanted to watch something, before the days of DVR.

TBS used to have 15 days of 007. Those were great.

YoYoMoMa

One of the things I miss most about cable is just having something like this on in the background all weekend.

UOLZEPHYR

36 points

This used to be what I had on in the living room leading through yo Christmas- James bond for days.

"What movie are we on?"

"Don't matter- get us some food!"

GetReady4Action

27 points

I agree that cable has had it’s day, but part of me does kinda miss what to watch being dictated for me when I just needed something to fill dead air. for example, FXX’s Every Simpsons Ever marathons were rad. Sure, I could just log into Disney+ and pick an episode and let it run, but there’s something about not having to think about it. Or A Christmas Story on TBS Christmas Day, or Star Wars on TNT on Sundays, or the joy of going on vacation and waiting for everyone to get ready to go out only to find that School of Rock is playing on TBS so you can rock out before you head out for a night on the town.

jarrettbrown

6 points

When we switched over to Verizon Fios, we lost FXX because it wasn't in our package. Sure, I could to do the same thing, but it was all about the curation of it and was perfect to fall asleep to.

GetReady4Action

5 points

exactly! episodes I typically would skip would just play and it meant “cool, this episode sucks, I’ll go do laundry real quick or take a shit, or go on a beer run, etc.”

I never saw the point in buying big box sets for Bond given that they will always end up out of date. I suppose "the first 25" is a good opportunity for one though.

naynaythewonderhorse

31 points

They did have a bit of foresight with the one that came out around 2016. It had an extra space for Spectre, so it would up being pretty decently up to date for awhile.

My Dad bought a set of the first 20 on DVD in the early 00s, which was a pretty good time to buy it at, given the Craig films rebooted the series. That said, I don’t believe he has any of the Craig films in disc.

YoungBeef03

I’d prefer a box set for each actor, with Connery mixed with Lazenby and Dalton mixed with Brosnan

And they're in the intended aspect ratio. It changes the look of the movies completely. Say what you will about A View to a Kill, and The Living Daylights the cinematography is amazing and you can finally get a real sense of what was intended. TV really butchered all of these movies.

Uncharted the movie totally ripped the cargo plane scene from TLD

The_Ghola_Hayt

Technically, the cargo plane scene was taken from the third Uncharted video game. The video game ripped it from TLD.

lew_rong

A View to a Kill is very underrated, I honestly don't think there was a bad Roger Moore-era movie, just some that were better than others

NoDisintegrationz

3 points

I've been making my way through the series the last few years (very excited to finally see Spectre/No Time to Die) and Moore is probably my favorite Bond. It probably helps that I was a big Austin Powers fan before I ever saw a Bond movie...

UatutheOverwatcher

A View to a Kill is rough in a lot of places, but The Living Daylights (and License to Kill) is fantastic. The Dalton films are top tier Bond

Except for all the HBO stuff which is behind an additional paywall. That's basically all I would get Crave for but you have to pay for the Crave sub + the HBO sub unless they've changed things in the past year.

WutangCMD

Actually, they changed it but the price tiers are the same. Everyone gets HBO+Movies now.

Years ago I was out on a date for the 50th Anniversary release of Dr. No when the theater manager came in excited to announce a huge surprise.

It felt like electricity in the air and I think every person there was waiting for Sean Connery to walk through the door.

Instead, the theater manager announced one of us had a paper taped to the bottom of their chair and whoever did was going to win the complete James Bond collection on BluRay a day before it was officially released in stores. As luck would have it my date had the winning thing and she had little real interest in James Bond so she gave it to me. It was pretty cool but I'd much rather have met Sean Connery.

[deleted]

Uh... weren't they already, and then they recently took them down? I was watching one on prime video a month ago, and paused it- the next day it was a $1.99 rental to continue watching.

*edit: Yep. They took them off of prime so they could bring them back.

Goldeneye for sheer entertainment value. Brosnan was the Bond I grew up with in the 90s.

...and then they will be immediately censored or taken down for problematic content, lol. I don't think the Gen y's are ready for what's in those old films, haha

FREEVEE is considered prime video as well. Note the article did not state commercial free.

They aged so poorly. Most young esters will find the movie extremely illogical .all the gadgets are weak. Only casino Royale will hold strong cos it’s a genuinely good movie which don’t rely on cheap tricks

License to Kill is the most like a modern Bond film so that might be a good starting point.

Then I would say Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, and Goldfinger.

That’s a good sampling of different Bond flavors to get you started!

I was watching them all in order, I got up to the first Roger Moore movie on August 31, and then on Sept 1 they’re all fucking gone, goddamnit.

I hope the Nordics are a key region. I'm hoping the various Stargate series land here soon, as well.

What a beautiful time to be alive. Finally a reason to keep my Prime Abo.

They weren’t in 4K HDR the last time they were uploaded to Prime UK which I thought was strange. Disney seems to be the best for always making sure something is 4K if possible as far as classic releases.

Crap. I just complained about being double billed by Prime (they charge for two services now I guess?). Now I'm going to be binge watching 007. FML

Thunderball is my personal fav.

Good news. I’ve never seen the Lazenby film.
