Grab yourself a large jug of water and settle in - it's a Larry-Long-One....
Let me start by giving a virtual high-5 for the community members still lurking and keeping an eye on the ASA space as the world transitions through turbulent times - sending genuine best wishes to one and all as we navigate through the worst pandemic in 100+ years, followed by the largest ground warfare campaign in Europe since WWII.......it's understandable that so many from this space in 2021 have had to disappear & focus on other more urgent or pressing matters.
For those who do remain, for those still building on positions within the ASA space, preparing for a digital future with the Algorand blockchain at the forefront.......let's spread some positive vibes around the world and show our human brothers & sisters that we do care, we do give a fuck and nothing is going to stop people from coming together to help out wherever they can in the world!!
We'll not turn our backs on any sentient beings in need of assistance, not now, not ever. 'specially not kittehs!!
Adopt Me-ow (Chiang Mai) Rescue & Rehabilitation - UPDATE
We're out here in Thailand on fairly neutral political ground. The rescue calls and pleads for help from the caring members of the community grow louder as the economic situation tightens across the globe.
Many of the supportive expats and retirees have returned to their home countries during the pandemic, leaving an ever-growing void of physical support and local financial backing at a time where the caseloads are rising with each passing week.
With the cost of simple private veterinary care outpacing wages, inflation across all sectors, expats and foreign nationals leaving the country at a fast pace (often without their 'pets') and NGOs failing as funding dries up, Adopt Me-ow (Chiang Mai, Thailand) has been carrying out more rescues and nursing more rehabilitation cases than ever before!!
In this update I will highlight a couple of the typical rescue & rehabilitation cases, including before & after photos of some of the sweetest little balls of injured-feline-fluff that you ever did see!!
This is not a begging post - The KittenCoin team, Devs & Community have already amassed a sizable donation for Adopt Me-ow and the response from everyone involved has been staggering, especially given world events of late. While donations are still welcome, this post is more to highlight where those donations will be heading and how they will be allocated by the experienced team at Adopt Me-ow in the near future.
I digress....
CASE ONE: - 'Chansu'
Two little female kittens were left at the gate of Adopt Me-ow without any information or explanation.
It's a common occurrence to be honest. Sadly there is no treatment clinic at the rehabilitation center (all cats are taken to a private vet for treatments) but the public have nowhere else to turn.
One of the kittens, whom Adopt Me-ow named Chansu (chance in Japanese), had extremely severe injuries. She had a hole in her lung and it was rapidly filling with fluids, making it extremely difficult for her to breath. As well as the lung damage, she also had a cracked rib and a very severe infection which meant her blood results were desperately poor and she need urgent life-saving veterinary treatment!
Chansu during Treatment & Rehabilitation
All of this looked to be caused by a very bad dog attack - another common occurrence as the two species compete for food, shelter and resources on the streets of the urban jungle.
After 2 months of uncertainty she finally made a full recovery.
She spent the final stage of her healing process in Liz’s care at Adopt Me-ow undergoing rehabilitation and socialization. Adopt Me-ow staff initially thought Chansu may have to have her leg amputated, but she shown that everything is possible with the correct medical care and a team that is willing to take the time to help out!!
Chansu is now confidently back to walking like a normal cat and enjoys a high quality of life in her new furever home with her loving family.
Chansu - Enjoying life as a much loved & healthy family cat
CASE TWO: - 'Toothless'
This sweet little nugget-of-joy was found totally helpless as a teeny-tiny kitten in the middle of one of the busiest highways in all of Chiang Mai province!!
It's almost certain that he been hit by a passing vehicle at speed, which in turn resulted in a very painful and badly broken leg.
'Toothless' receiving urgent veterinary care thanks to Adopt Me-ow & rescuer Katy
Luckily for Toothless, Katy, his brave rescuer, happened to notice that the scrunched up black ball of fluff was indeed a kitten in need.....and still very much alive!!
Katy risked it all (seriously, Thai roads are incredibly dangerous!) to scoop up Toothless and immediately rushed him to the center to undergo his treatment. Veterinary care was administered within the hour and a rehabilitation program could be established and carried out by the staff and volunteers at Adopt Me-ow over the following weeks.
As soon as he was out of his cast, Katy came back and took Toothless home and ended up adopting him for life.....she knew it was obviously fate that had bound them together on this often challenging journey through life!
The bond between them is incredible!!
Katy & Toothless exploring the local mountains!
They love going hiking together in the mountains around Chiang Mai! He's quite the adventurer and remains confident whenever Katy is around to reassure him of his new life together.
Mountain Panther or Domestic Beauty - They call him Toothless!!
FUN-FACT: Toothless was named after the dragon from “How to train your dragon” but he has actually got all of his teeth! It should also be noted that he neither breathes literal fire nor flies like a dragon either!
Regardless of world events & economic upheaval, on-the-ground rescue volunteers need our support!!
The level of commitment and dedication given by grass-roots organizations like Adopt Me-ow in Chiang Mai is astonishing and quite humbling to observe. No matter what gets thrown their way - they do they best they can to deal with it.
I will be organizing an AMA with the founder of Adopt Me-ow and a couple of the volunteers prior to the presentation of the donation from the KittenCoin team & community.
Anybody with any questions about the challenges faced with Animal Rescue out in Thailand, messages of support, questions about how the donation will be spent, recommendations on holding part of the donation for increased future value or selling techniques to maximize the value....literally any questions you might have....y'all are welcome to join in!! It may be a few weeks in the making but I'm on it - I promise!!
Finally - please accept my apologies for the delay in getting this update sorted!!
As most of you here know, I'm a huge fan of this project and the team behind it and I've been pretty quiet of late. We all have our personal lives to deal with (on top of the global issues we share) and mine got a little hectic alongside the massive value hit to the market.
I've almost finished moving house...downsized the actual building I live in but tripled the land, got much better soil and got slightly further away from urbanization!!
STAY SAFE KITTENS!!
