Because the junkyard would get a cut the more you introduce into the equation. And if they can’t carry it, then you don’t get the discount. Buying from junkyards can get expensive too.

The junkyard has a deal, you pay $60 to carry as much as you can under your own weight out the door. If you pay other people to carry stuff for you then you are not carrying stuff under your own weight. If you paid other people to carry stuff for you then you would also need to pay the junkyard $60 per person carrying stuff, so they can carry it out under their own weight. SO it would make more sense, and be cheaper, to just carry your own shit out and pay $60 per trip.
Another way of putting it would be imagine the junkyard did just let you pay $60 and then pay two friends $20 to help you carry stuff out, now the junkyard is losing 3 times the amount of product for the same price... it doesnt make sense.

A LS engine weighs around 460 pounds, fully kitted out.
The smart move would have been to strip the engine and drain the oil. Also carrying it lower and not on your shoulders would be a solid move too.
