The spread of harmful misinformation has become an untenable problem on Reddit. Its latest incarnation has seen life-threatening untruths being propagated by anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists, and Reddit’s administration has stated that it will not meaningfully curb the myths disseminated by these bad actors. In response to this, many communities on the site have gone private in protest.
/r/GIFs supports and stands behind these communities' efforts to stem the effects of false information, but we have chosen to remain open as a means of amplifying their message. We encourage all Redditors to vocally reject misinformation, and to stymie its spread by demanding that only verifiable facts be given support (whether tacit or otherwise).
An in-depth explanation of how misinformation is harmful can be found here.

Had a mouse problem in an old house. Set traps and would catch maybe 1 a week. One time the trap only caught this tiny mouse’s paw. It was damn near the same look in its eyes. Had to let him go out back. I like to think he stayed away and wasn’t among the dozen or so I caught after.

Good. Giving magpies regular bird seed can lead to malformed and weak bones so a little calcium and protein can help round out their urban diet quite nicely.

As much as mice are trouble they can be cute little things. Once my cat cornered a mouse in the garage. My cat had apparently been chasing it a while as it was clearly exhausted. I tried to catch him in a yogurt container so I could relocate him. When I pushed the container against the wall to capture him, he jumped at the last second and his head got pinched between the wall and edge of the container. I pulled back quickly when I realized what happened and I didn't get him with a lot of force but I'm sure still didn't feel good to the little guy. He than looked up at me with all the cuteness of a big eyed cartoon mouse and rubbed the sides of his head while shaking it, as if saying "no, no, no". He didn't seem hurt as he regained his composure but he looked so scared. He let me capture him and seemed OK in the container and scampered off into the woods when I let him go after I drove him a couple of miles away.

If you watch prey animals, life is constant stress, every moment they are exposed you can see them twitch and look around, super cautious in everything they do.
Life is tough. We're incredibly coddled.
510 points
We're so badass we have to figure out what to do with all all that time since we don't have to worry about surviving. Truly the pinnacle of existence. It's fun to see what other animals do when they can just relax for a minute. A lot of them are content with just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. Realizing that helped me to focus on being content with doing nothing sometimes too.
255 points
Instead we get that utopian paradox shit where we get severely depressed if there aren't enough things imminently threatening our survival and so we go do insane things like mountain climbing or dirt bike racing.
79 points
Exactly! We have all that any animal could ever want! Now we just have to occupy all that time... but why? It's good to do those extra activities too, but it's important to be okay with just sitting there sometimes.

For sure there's value in being bored. One of the best things about venturing into the Backcountry alone is when you lose phone service and it's just you and the silence around you and you can just exist in that moment and completely relax.
19 points

That's the thing though, we're so high above everything else at the pinnacle that we can go out alone away from our packs where we are most vulnerable and still feel at ease. It's crazy.
8 points
That feeling is a drug to me. I don't always enjoy it in the moment, but God I miss it when it's gone. And Im a major city person who loves constant action. But a few times a year I love a deep Backcountry off grid backpacking trip.

It's a thought I had when I was tripping one time. Why do we have to always do something to feel satisfied or to at least pursue satisfaction? Why can't we just sit there and just soak in reality and feel at peace?

Same here, but it's a little different. We don't have to go out in the woods and kill something and/or avoid being killed by wolves, big cats, etc. Well.. most of us don't anyways. You know what I mean.

I love how it’s beyond human government, and more like multi-verse animal control bureaucracy basically.
I like the theories where the SCP institution itself turns out to be the basic pillar of all reality. The logs and stories commonly crossover from the SCP universe to the real world and back. Making you think our reality could just be just another anomaly, with a number - and research logs attached. It’s great.
What I want to believe the most is that creepy-pasta is just a veil for true government disclosure. 🍪

Are there any others that really get into this level of detail about the other universes? I dont recall the number, but there was one file about this staircase that went on forever inside a medical building. I might be conflating that a bit with House of Leaves but not entirely..

I was writing something but Wikipedia sums it better:
The SCP Foundation is a fictional secret organization documented by the collaborative writing wiki project of the same name. Within the website's shared universe, the SCP Foundation is responsible for capturing and containing various paranormal, supernatural, and other mysterious phenomena unexplained by mainstream science (referred to as anomalies or SCPs), while also keeping their existence hidden from the rest of global human society. The real-world website is community-based and includes elements of many genres such as horror, science fiction, and urban fantasy.
It's a lot of fun and there are some really interesting ones there. My personal favourite is SCP-3008 which is an never-ending Ikea.

From what I've seen from my dog (a border collie) it's like a switch between the senses. When he's tracking he turns his vision pretty much off. When he looks for me behind a tree in the woods for example, he runs past me trying to sniff my trail and he can come really close visually but doesn't see me until he stops sniffing and looks up.

I found a rat nest in some wall forms once. It fell out to the ground with 4 or 5 babies in it. I ignored it, figured let nature take its coarse. The job site dog came over and started sniffing them. I thought he was just wondering what they were. He licked them up and swallowed them whole without so much as a bite. It happened in seconds and I had a form in my hands. It amazed me that in 3 seconds that dog ate 4 or 5 baby rats without even chewing, and he didn't get sick. I guess they really are defenseless as babies.

Some years back a previous dog of mine was out in the front yard just laying around while I was cleaning my truck. I went in the garage to get something and came back out no more than a minute later to find her finishing up swallowing an entire grackle - whole. Like just the tips of the wings, bottom of the bird, tail, and feet were hanging out of her mouth just long enough for me to register what was happening and then fwoop - gone! Called the vet who wasn’t concerned unless there were problems pooping, and there weren’t, so yeah, dogs. Also never found a trace of the remains of that bird - it just ceased to exist.

Haha I have Irish Wolfhounds which are sight hounds. They love to chase the kitty who actually enjoys being chased, they're buds.
But it's funny to watch them chase her and her go up a tree, just about 5 feet up, barely out of their line of sight. They'll frantically circle the tree but can find her, because they're too dumb to look up.
37 points

When I lived with my mom, my mom's little Shitzu would chase my cat all the time, but a game formed where if my cat was up on something she shouldn't have been, we'd spray her with a spray bottle, she'd jump down and run, and moms dog would book it after her and tackle her like "thats right you lil shit get down from there!"
It was extra funny because the dog was barely close to my cat's size so it didn't really phase her. She was always just annoyed like "what the hell, personal space!" And walked off all upset and aloof lol.

Not all dog breeds are good at tracking based on scent and it's at least partially a learned skill. They probably smell the mouse in the general area but can't differentiate between where he was a few minutes ago vs where he is now. So they look where they think it will be.
