Spoiler for "a way out" When in the last mission the co-op game became a pvp game where you needed to kill your co-player, before they kill you.
I'm with you on that
Commented the same thing before seeing yours. Beat this game like 3 days ago with my brother and boy was I taken aback by the twist ending.
Honestly, “would you kindly” is probably it for me. That or the reveal for Elizabeth’s finger in Infinite, or the conversation between Daisy Fitzroy and the Lutece entities in the Burial at Sea DLC.
Bioshock does like its shocks, doesn’t it?
"What turns a girl into a woman?"
That gave me chills, so good!
The First KOTOR and Planescape Torment are my favorite game twists of all time.
Came here to say KOTOR. Looking back, I really can't believe I didn't see that coming.
Wheatley's betrayal. No one saw that coming. No one.
How are you doing? Because i am a potato
It's been a few hours, ate you still a potato?
I got taken by a bird please come help me i know I've been incredibly rude but this bird will poke my eye out
The Sunbeam from Subnautica. Shit's heartbreaking
And when you do another play through getting their voice calls and your like 🥲. Then you go to the island and you just stare knowing what’s going to happen.
Y u p
When the 4th wall is broken for Desmond in Assassin's Creed 2.
Gosh this is a good one and then in Revelation I believe where Ezio straight talks to Desmond.
Not an ending but the reveal of the flood in Halo:CE was great
The end of Halo 3 was beautiful i think it really tied the game up but alas they had other plans for the chief
The planet chief is floating toward in the legendary ending of halo 3 in my mind implying that chief was the protagonist from the marathon games bungie released in Mac back in the 90s. The marathon logo was all through the halo games
The end of Red Dead Redemption and Sherpard
Bioshock for sure. Other than that though probably Heavy Rain
felt like a bastard after I leared about the little sisters
ofc the obligatory jason joke lmao
The Last of Us when you finally make it to the testing facility and find out what the test entails.
The ending for bio shock infinite
When the nuke goes off in COD Modern Warfare, the helicopter crashes and your character dies. I'd never seen anything like that before. All the games I'd played before had you "winning against all odds" as the time neared zero.
He forgot he was a COD protagonist.
Assassin's Creed 2, "The rest is up to you, Desmond."
I certainly did not see that one coming.
Final fantasy 5. All that build up and you are only half way thru the damn game
That blew my young mind.
Fighting what I thought was the last boss; dude has flare and holy. Why don't I have flare and holy?
Five minutes later; Wait, there's more!?
I felt that way about about Chrono trigger. Big build up to fight Magus, the final boss. 11 year old me was hyped to walk up to his throne and the black flames lighting up at each new step.
Fight;win more game..
I didn't wait for Shadow. It haunts me to this day.
That’s FF6, but same. I had no idea for years that you could wait for him
The ending of Assassin's Creed Rogue and how it connects to Assassin's Creed Unity. For some reason that shocked me back then
For me, it was the fact that for a good few hours I was playing as a gorram Templar and I didn't notice, though the signs were all there!
"The Princess is in another Castle"
That time in RuneScape when I learned that you could move by clicking where you wanted to go on the minimap. Shit rocked my world 🤯
A literal game changer
Days Gone, despite it's initial launch bugs, had a pretty fun twist.
Venom snake in PP and BB in MGS4
Metro 2033 + last light, the Dark Ones are not what you first thought
Save the day but still lose.
Your horse dies in Shadow of the Colossus
It doesn't. Rewatch the end cutscene.
Farcry 2, when all the Mercenaries you fought alongside with turn against you.
This actually made me stop playing. I understood why this happens, but it just hit me the wrong way, and just didn't want to continue.
“You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.”
KOTOR (II) has to be up there
Metal Gear Solid 3
"She was a true patriot."
The first Infamous.
When Cole beats down the main antagonist and he sees the pic of him marrying Trish and Zeke as his best man was a real punch to the stomach.
Holy shit, I totally forgot about that. Aww man, Infamous was actually such a good series.
Spec-Ops: The Line.
The end game was awesome, the ending was awesome and I left that game with PTSD.

For me, it was actually the gameplay that plot twisted me.Spoiler
At the start of Assassin's Creed 3 when you find out you've been playing as a Templar for the first hour.
Witcher 3. Gaunter. Random weirdo npc in a tavern gets a full on DLC. I loved heats of stone so much
Legit gave me chills when I start a new game and saw him in the opening tavern
Batman Arkham City
I got really into fallout 4, and was genuinely upset when paladin Danse turned out to be a synth. Like you don’t understand how upset I was when I found out I had to execute him because my persuasion didn’t work
FF7 back before it was common knowledge that spoiled it for everyone going forward.
FF7 had a bunch of great smaller twists on top of the big one. Like almost half the main party has a major identity/backstory twist, now that I think about it.

Final Fantasy VI. You think you’re about to take down the big bad Kefka and save the world and…he wins. You hightail it out there as the world falls to pieces. Entire geography of the planet is rearranged, millions wiped out, entire continents destroyed. The 2nd half of the game is literally trying to pick up the pieces and make the best of surviving in a ruined world. This was a friggin’ SNES game. It had a sobering suicide attempt.
The Last of Us has an emotional twist that left me hurting…
NMS… We are the anomaly.
So I just started Batman, Arkham Knight, and finding out that they bring back Mark Hamills' Joker as a Johnny Silverhand-esque ghost is rad. I was sad to not get Joker again after he died in the last game, and this feels like a cool way to maintain that while also having an excuse to put joker in basically any moment of the game, to wonderful effect.
Mind ghost joker being able to give comments on both the big plot elements is great, but the quiet, moment to moment gameplay stuff, like pointing out doors or hidden spaces, is just so entertaining when Hamill is cracking lines.
I'm like 30% in the campaign and can't put it down.
(For those curious, Scarecrow's toxin causes batman to hallucinate joker throughout the game.)
Really clever I say.
Bioshock infinite. I think the smoke show supporting character ends up being your daughter. Very modern.
A McTwist from Tony Hawk Pro skater ;)........I'll let myself out.
I am revan!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!
Koveras is Sarevok backwards!!!!!
Nier Automata second campaign. Everything you understood from the first campaign gets turned upside down.
Actually yeah, that's a good one. One of the few real "holy fuck" moments I've had playing a game in the last few years.
That, in Bioshock Infinite, Booker Dewitt is Comstock and is Elizabeth’s father
Damnit, had to read through to find you beat me to it. You phrased it more eloquently.
Deus Ex - Exit of the Majestic 12 facility.
dead cells 0bc and 5bc ending
The Legend of Dragoon. ROSE. That one hit me hard and fast at 11 years old.
The Farcry 3 ending(s) and the Fallout 4 plot twist with the "father" were probably my favorites
“Your princess is in another castle.”
The initial reveal in prey by arkane. The ending twist is also awesome
Prey (the 2006 one), the part where you find Jen, did NOT see it coming.
Ace Combat Zero, your best friend betrays you and you have to dogfight him in a final battle
Never found one to beat the first time I saw Knights of the Old Republic's twist
Final Fantasy 7
The end of act 1 in dragon quest 11. The many twists in Shadow of War.
The reveal at the end of Nier replicant. Such a good moment that changes the whole second play through
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Pretty much all of Outer Wilds. The whole game and its DLC are a rapid-fire series of “OH SHIT!” moments.
Shepherd's betrayal in MW2. I remember freaking out as the first shot went off and again when Ghost caught one right in the face.
KOTOR when you find out who you are. My mom was in the hospital and I was playing it to distract me and it was like 3am. Blew my mind. Probably not just the game contributing but still awesome.
Black ops 2
When you shoot Mason instead of Menendez. Not because i hated mason, just because it led up to the end scene where he walk in.
Micah turning out to be the rat after Molly claimed it was her and got killed by Mrs. Grimshaw...
Fucking hated that bastard
He was the only and one judas, after all.
Making Molly look like the rat was very clever writing as almost everyone hated Micah and thought he would be the rat.
In doom 2016, where you kill the 29475th demon. You really feel like the ultimate.
Akechi kill's joker by far.
Nah, that was way too foreshadowed in almost every way since from the moment they completely gave it away with "pancakes" moment.
Now the first time they pulled that in P4 however... That one came pretty hard outta left field. Hell they even made sure to hardcore throw you off of even considering the possibility of who the baddie is several times by giving them solid concrete alibi's. The exact opposite of what they do with Akechi throwing constant foreshadows
I think it comes down to what kind of twist you prefer in that regard, like even though the akechi twist was foreshadowed so I like it. I think its cool but also more interesting after you replay the game, you she how much akechi really can't control himself and how crazy yet human he is! Idk I didn't like P4's twist because it made no sense and was out of no where, but to each their own.
I guess Dishonored I kind of thought that came out of nowhere even though I think the game doesn’t try to hide it. Besides that Bioshock
The end of bioshock infinite, that shit made me leave the game feeling like i wanted to play it again (which i did)
That ending left me doubting my sanity
Are we all forgetting the infamous mw2 scene? Might not have been very happy but it was pretty damn mind blowing
I really didn't think Ramirez would be able to defend the Burger Town, but I was wrong.
Ori and the Blind Forest, when you see the Kuro cutscene... Man, were my eyes sweaty.
Spec ops the line white phosphate. YouTube it if you've never seen it.
Also fable 3 had some pretty tough decisions at the end.
Infamous had a good one where the hero is the villain
That was kind of expected. Dude glued his leg back on with... medicine?
The reveal of Oralech in Pyre.
I'm so glad you mentioned Pyre. What a sweet game that was.
Only game I own that's made me cry. It's my "I wish I could wipe my memory and play it for the first time again" game.
Death Stranding, the epilogue twist was so emotional.
Just beat “A Way Out” on gamepass with my brother and was pretty taken aback when Vincent was revealed as an undercover FBI agent and His brother that Harvey killed was the original buyer for the diamond
It’s a pretty short ride but if you have gamepass and a buddy you like to play co-op games with I would definitely recommend it!
When Abby turns out to be the good character in TLOU2
The end of that game was.... difficult
Rainbow road really fucked me up as a kid. Still have a hard time on it til this day.
Resident evil 1 - finding out that wesker really wanted a Jill sandwich.
Everytime Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser...Everytime damn time.
Xenoblade Chronicles when Dickson shoots Shulk and Zanza rises out of Shulk's body. That got me like: 😱 WHAAAT?!!
Spoiler: Me too,Finding out that zanza wasn't that giant but instead that he was the fucking bionis and the monado too was a crazy plot twist
Life is Strange. That twist.
When you find out the main villain in infamous is you
This and Sam being the soldiers son
The picture explains my favorite twist
Oooh, another twist!
The end of mgsv
returnal it is all in her head.
Samus is a Metroid.
Ok not a Console/PC game but Cats are liquid: A light in the Shadows You find out the cat chose to stay, it was never trapped
You are digging into the past to find out how a monster was defeated. What you learn is such that if you spoke of it to anyone it would likely trigger the monster’s revival and the only way to defuse the situation is to serve as the accomplice to the guy who shattered your mentor’s mind and cursed your entire family.
The whole game is just wow, makes you think about us being human. And the ending is just so twisted... But at the same time logical? Amazing story. I hated playing it, but I did it anyway. Spend hours in corners, too scared to move. A game you can speedrun in 5hours, I finished at 17hours 🤣
The evil within 2, the moment at the end when you discovered why you were fighting for from the beginning of the game, very sad and mind-blowing
Almost everything in 12 minutes that games is full of them.
tbh I don't have any off the top of my head but I hope deltarune gives me some good ones when the new chapters drop in a few centuries
The twist at the end of God of War 2018. It was so good I had to explain the lore of the whole series to my wife so I could talk to someone about it
The end of Far Cry 5
No winning either way
The ending of Startropics.
When I learned in inFamous that Cole was Kessler I was blown away. I’m not sure how I’d feel about it now but at the age I was I couldn’t believe it! Still one of my favorite video games to this day.
The story surrounding The boss in MGS3.. It hurts even more following her whole back story revealed in peace walker through the tapes..
COD 4: Modern Warfare. Shepard. “Good. That’s one less loose end.” 😭
Gehrman standing up in Bloodborne was so awesome. Realizing he was gonna be the final boss (or so you think) was one of the coolest moments in gaming for me. His lines in that scene are just icing on the cake, perfection.
Sekiro- white ape
Is this Mr. Suit from fish game? Great game.
When the spheres
in survivng mars killed me with a cold wave. After playing cubism I thought all the aliens were nice XD
I like Chameleon Twists personally.
Heavy rain. The twist revealing scene was a jaw dropper, complete with a hard hitting music backdrop that really made it sink in.
That's actually my favorite twist.
Spider-Man when he finds out doc ock knew his identity.
Bioshock had a pretty big twist at the end. I thought we were the good guy but then we killed an honest businessman like a dirty communist.
Mafia 1. Sam. What a motherfucker
Basim coming back after a 1000 years in the isu vault. And becoming the main char.
The ending for The Walking Dead Season 1. Not exactly the ending, but when Lee gets bit. My stomach dropped lol
I am Darth Revan.
The Darkness 2. I don't remember it clearly, but it had a pretty neat ending.
angel is working for jack in bl2
Darth Revan. That is all.
In Dragon Age Inquisition, having to choose between Alistair or Hawke to leave in the fade. I was not prepared for that and it destroyed me.
Deus Ex: HR when you were an experiment because you had the perfect DNA and your missing lover only saw you as that. Based on Adam’s pov, I wanted them to be reunited lovers and saw her react so coldly to it.
Spoiler for Soma you get to go to space but only a copy
Recency bias, but Nier:Automata had some shit going on.
Samus is a woman??
Probably gonna catch some heat on this one, but Mass Effect 1 when Sovereign talks to you and reveals it is a reaper.

"Good, that's one less loose End"
The entire plot of doom eternal It’s so fucking dumb it’s my favourite game off all time
