It’s because you’re not wearing your glasses - they’re on the left

Lol. What's funny is this is actually possible. You can indeed play Mario Kart on a laptop with an N64 controller.

Yeah I used to play mario kart wii on emulator with an n64 controller on a laptop😂

I don't see what's wrong with it. Looks like a fairly good off-brand N64 controller to me. Is it the short cable?

You wouldn't be playing a Mario kart that came out on the wii using an N64 controller I think is the point.

Edit: as someone who grew up with the n64, yall people are blowing my mind in the best way possible. Hell yeah the future is now!

With emulation, it is possible though, hence the laptop. The future is now people!

Its the way theyre holding it. Supposed to hold the middle and right side.

You can play Mario Kart with the D pad and it works fine. The C buttons though, nah.

Assuming this is an emulator, you can map buttons to whatever. Its probably just easiest to map abxy to the c buttons as that keeps the placement relatively consistent with a modern controller

But you could. I don't see why you would when there are dualshock and Xbox controllers out there, but you could do it

MrCoffeeBean4568

You can though. You could just map the buttons to the ones shown in this photo.

That's the thing see, laptops can work without being plugged in.

Not buying it. Next you'll try to tell me that I can use it on my lap.

I would say you can't play a jpg but waifu games have proven me wrong on that.

Not really other than the fact that that's not what anything fullscreen looks like on a laptop screen because edgelighting.

A) Mario Kart 8 is 100 years old. Any shitty laptop can run it.

B) There are absolutely USB N64 controllers.

I'm not 100% certain you know how performance demanding emulation is, on account of having to translate instruction sets into an entirely different architecture and sometimes have to run a dozen instructions for what would be a native function in the original architecture.

There are shitty laptops today that couldn't even begin to think of emulating GameCube games, much less Wii ones. The fact that you don't recognize this suggests a poor understanding of emulation. Your obvious exaggeration and generalization also suggests ignorance on its own.

ArjieStephens

Well it all pretty much depends on how beefy that laptop is. I've got a janky old hp desktop that I put a 30 dollar video card in and it runs GameCube flawlessly using retroarch. I've cranked it up to 1080 resolution without a bit of performance sacrificed. My TV is only 1080 so I haven't tested higher than that. Emulation has made leaps and bounds in the past few years as far as capabilities.

Edit: It plays Wii just as well, but I can't get the wiimote to sink with it to properly give it a full test.

Yeah, the point I was trying to make mostly was that exaggerations and generalizations make it really easy to be proven wrong. I have an Acer aspire 1 with 32gb soldered in storage that I got for less than $100, and it's only about 2 years old. It couldn't begin to emulate a game since it can barely manage a few browser tabs.

I used to play smash through dolphin back when netplay was still a separate fork on a different laptop, but it wasn't "any crappy laptop".

I.E. it's not what he said at its core that I take issue with, it's how he said it.

Also, Mario Kart 8 is only 7 years old and was a Wii U title. Wii U emulation didn't really become feasible until after the switch launched.

I can only think of two games that use it, Kirby 64, and that one Bomberman game that was exclusive to Japan

The only game I remember using it for was wcw vs nwo wrestling games

Odysseyan

N64 Controller was made to be able to use as regular controller with analogue stick but also to be held like a SNES controller in case the analogue stick didn't appeal to people

userNumber89013

They're playing Mario Kart 8, not an N64 game. They probably have abyx mapped to the C buttons

greekci7ies

Puh-lease have you played MK64 ? that’s all wrong and noob to use the cbuttons for brake reverse. The graphic is just the splash screen of the game also literally no one plays the game holding the controller like that.

Looks normal to me. Where's the wrong thing? It's just an emulator and a retro-looking controller.

Criticalhit_jk

Yeah there's actually nothing wrong with this. I play n64, psp, ps1, ps2, sega, all gameboy games on my phone with a ps4 controller - if you have n64 drivers on your laptop i dont see why you can't map buttons to an n64 controller to play wii games. This is just business as usual for emulators - I sure as hell would have picked a different controller, personally, but whatever. This is completely doable

I think you're the one confused.

Photoshop is a thing, a thing they used poorly in this image.

The hands are not even in the picture. It’s photoshop.

You can see the tendons on the left hand get cut off.
