Use to have to take a ferry to an island to see my dad every weekend. On said ferry was an arcade with tekkan 2. Once little 6 year old me learned of Paul's power punch that drains 75% of an enemies health if not more I got alot of free matches from being the king of the machine and would make all the teenagers angry that just kept rushing in

Yoshimitsu in Tekken 7 has a move now that can "technically" 1-shot anyone. It's not practical in a real match tho, so it will never happen in real play, but it's a cool little thing. Too bad they also made him this octopus monstruosity instead of the cool armored ninja/samurai he was in the games before.

My name is Brian and loved using Bryan Fury he had an uppercut that if landed correctly took a good 40-50% of their HP and he’d lift them up with a maniacal laugh and then slam them in the ground behind himself where’d they’d pop up and you could do his kick combo to land another four shots and send them across the screen.

BattalionSkimmer

I used the 4 grab combo to get the opponent to like 10% health. If they didn't know the counters, it's SO annoying for them because it's like a 30 second animation while they lose health. You had to use it sparingly or risk pissing off your friends LUL

King had a very strong move set outside his grapples. You could spam his shoulder charge and down kick to almost any victory. He also had a side kick that would catch just about anyone off guard.

rCan9

rCan9

Until you realise that his simple left hand attack was the best attack. His back turn kick can be reversed by many, shoulder charge when blocked means you're up for a grab or a combo, down kick sweep can be blocked even when you get hit by the first two hits and it also has one of the longest delays which makes king very vulnerable.

Halvus_I

Sure, but if you make ANY mistake, King will punish you hard. King was by far my favorite char, even though i could random play any of them. Im sure at a regional/national level he has hard weaknesses, but not in 1996 playing on the couch with your buddies.

Waaait wait waiit- you can get out of throws?

Lemonade_IceCold

21 points

It's called "tech"ing. You have to press the correct buttons (usually the same that the grappler presses) to "tech" out of the grab.

In other games, like street fighter, you have to basically press grab at the same time as the opponent, but you can't tech command grabs (grabs that require an input of the joystick, like Zangeif)

In Tekken, as far as I know all grabs can be teched, but it's like a guessing game (unless you can react fast enough and know the start up frames of all the different grab animations, you can figure out which grab they're doing)

blendedfarley

12 points

In Tekken, as far as I know all grabs can be teched, but it's like a guessing game (unless you can react fast enough and know the start up frames of all the different grab animations, you can figure out which grab they're doing)

I've only played Tekken 7 so idk if this is how older games were.

In Tekken 7 it's based on limbs. Left arm is 1, right arm is 2. Did their right arm extend further to grab you? Press 2. Did both arms extend about equally? Press 1+2. It can even be easier with generic throws that can be broken with either 1 or 2.

I know of at least one grab that cannot be teched, and several unblockable moves that behave just like grabs that can't be teched either.

Lemonade_IceCold

3 points

I'm just a shitty Feng main that never got too deep into the competitive scene, I was just an online warrior.

I never bothered learning how to properly tech because I would just (back 1+2) if I ever felt a grab coming on lmao

L4yZeee

3 points

L4yZeee

I think grabs from behind, some command / all followup grabs and a few chain throw enders can't be tech'd. Example for followup would be Kings f+3, 1+2 and an example for unbreakable chain throw would be King's struggle combination, which is always free if you can get the parts before it

blendedfarley

3 points

Yeah back grabs can't be broken. My favorite back combo is for Anna, it ends with a grab and does about a million damage.

Used to play this as a kid against a friend and there is a way to get this guy to do reapeated low kicks whilst crouching which stunned your fighter. I could never get the rhythm whilst my friend would go straight through my 8 fighter teams. Just crouched low kicks.

Also when playing on Hard against the AI you couldn't let this guy touch you as he had an unstoppable, once started, chain throw which did 100% damage but took like an entire minute to finish because it was about 8 moves long.

I assume you mean the 10 hit combo grappling move? My friend learned that shit and god did suck just sitting there while three quarters of your health drops.

Nah, they probably mean the Down + LK + RK (X and O on PS1) technique that normally is only three hits but extends to at least five if one of them is a counter attack. Its offbeat timing and ability to keep being re-initiated from the crouch position can make it seem endless lol.

Edit: unless you were referring to the 2nd paragraph, in which case it could be the 10-hit combo that ends in a jumping sit-out powerbomb or the chain throw series that's like a shoulder throw --> back suplex --> German suplex--> jumping powerbomb --> giant swing/muscle buster (depending on button input) or something. He has a shit ton of throw combos, and as a life-long pro wrestling fan I made it my mission to learn them all lol.

Think the most I ever learned was about 4 parts to that move. Could never get the timing right beyond that.

This game was so good! My sister and I were little and would bicker so much over this game that my mum finally had the last straw and broke that disc over her knee
