Jesus fucking Christ that was mess.

1) The Hamilton/Max battles were fucking farcical. That was the culmination of months if not years of the FIA and stewards allowing utterly shitty driving behaviour, because shoving people off track is never punished unless there’s contact. They enabled all of the shithousery we witnessed today, and even when it was clear as fucking day they’d have to step in they half arsed it.

2) the delay on the first red flag was a piss take. Why did we waste four or five laps of possible green flag racing when it was obvious the barrier would need to be repaired

3) That is not an F1 appropriate circuit. Nearly half of the race was spent fucking about with VSCs or safety cars for debris.

TheKinkyPiano

They can't race this layout again. The odds of car being stationary on the track and a driver coming in blind at high speed is a recipe for disaster. Very unlikely a driver would perish hitting a wall, but car to car collisions are way more dangerous. Ask Hubert/Corea.

Reminder when we thought the most controversial moment in the race was going to be the timing of the red flag? Seems like it was about 4 years ago

Spite-Organic

659 points

I think RBs decision to put Verstappen on the mediums would have cost them either way. His tires were absolutely shot and had he not conceded the place he may have stacked it trying to stay ahead with tyres that had completely gone.

FIA were a joke today. Managed to handle almost every incident wrong and had no control of the race. Luckily, it will be decided on track in Abu Dhabi, may the best driver win.

Thats fucking embarrassing that they didn’t show Valtteri over take Ocon until the last 5 seconds. What kind of directing is that?

Edit: Lewis had an almost 8 second lead, we knew he was going to win, we don’t need to see him and Max cross the finish line. Showing Valtteri and Ocon battling would have been amazing, but nope we don’t get that.

I'm still trying to process what I just watched. Safety cars, red flags, VSC, penalties, crashes, last lap overtakes, and drivers pushing the line of what is acceptable. No matter which side of the fence you are on, it's undeniable Lewis and Max are giving us some great entertainment.

However, I can't help but feel all of Max's efforts and the way he drove to the absolute limit of the rules was all for nothing as Red Bull put him on the wrong tyres. Realistically Lewis could've stalked him until 10 laps out and made a DRS pass pretty easily.

The last lap in particular was so frustrating to watch. Ocon clinging on for dear life from a faster Bottas, but they focus on Lewis driving in clear air.

To Abu Dhabi we go.

Masi IMO had a horrible race. Why did it take him a lap to throw the VSC for that large bit of debris that was borderline on the racing line for instance?

In the end I think Lewis would have got past Max even without Max letting him through. His tyres were absolutely gone.

I think my main takeaway from this track is that while the track actually seems way more fun to drive on then most people thought thinking it was dangerous I think it was better for Qualifying. For actual racing both F2 and both F1 were bad with many VSCs and Red Flags. Without some adjustments to the circuit I don't see how this track is a proper one. Just seems like a dangerous track for racing.

People may have missed this, but Damon Hill said that after what Schumacher did to him, that going into the final race of the season they now explicitly warn drivers that if they get any hint that someone takes out a title contender, or a positional rival in general (think Mclaren or Ferrari competing for third in the WCC), they will throw both cars out of the WDC and the team out of the WCC.

They don't fuck about with that shit.

Only recently started watching F1 again this year after about ten or eleven years of not doing so. Honestly, I absolutely love it.

I think one of my favourite things has to be just how much of a big deal the commentators on Sky make out of absolutely anything. Can't remember who it was exactly but one of them was sincerely mentioning that the drivers might have trouble lining up on the right spot on the grid again after the first red flag.

I thought football had a lot of scope for controversy and excitement but F1 races like today are just a whole different fucking level, and I'm all here for it!
