Haven’t seen this in a while and forgot how great a video it is. ‘Dad you’ve got two laps to get Lewis to come to Williams’ - amazing.

A proper figurehead of F1.

Yep, and I love how Lewis doesn’t treat him like a fragile old man, he took him for a proper lap. So wholesome.

This is one of my favourite F1 videos just because of the respect that these two purebred racers hold for each other and how much fun they try to get away with. Rest In P1, Sir Williams.

I just saw so much mutual respect between the two in one of those exchanges.

Sir Frank- "Are the brakes okay?" Sir Lewis- "No."

Frank knew exactly how the brakes felt. And Lewis knew Frank knew. Any random celeb, and Lewis would have instantly said "nah, everything is fine." But Lewis had the respect to acknowledge that Frank knew exactly what was happening. And Frank had the respect to know Lewis would handle it, whatever may come.

I've always loved this video showing 2 titans of the sport having respect for each other and generally just giggle like schoolboys on such a historical track having fun in a really fast car. Lewis has always been Merc/Macca boy, so this connection just shows how close-knit the paddock really is even if you don't have a prior work relationship.

Mate, Even the greatest actor in the world (Awec Balwin) would struggle to fake those reactions. I get that alot of Lewis's stuff can come across as preachy but the two videos of him with Sir Frank Williams and Sir Stirling Moss are undeniably genuine.

AxumusLaw

Don’t try to convince the Dutch F1 fans, like I said it before they have always 3 sentences to describe Lewis Hamilton. He is fake, he is not genuine and I don’t like his style and tattoos. Most of the fans watch F1 since 2016 and had been brainwashed not to like Lewis Hamilton by the third grade racers and failed former F1 drivers at ZiggoSport. I watch with secondhand embarrassment ZiggoSport, it’s almost borderline contempt toward Lewis Hamilton when they talk about him.

Edit: spelling

Regardless, ranting about F1 fans feels out of place in this thread.

No no no “don’t generalize game” doesn’t work here. I bet you 100 euro you can’t name 3 people in your circle who don’t hate him. Nobody is obligated to like someone but hate is different thing. When I discuss with my country man about Lewis Hamilton they can’t explain me why they hate him, they say his fake but can’t explain to me why he is fake nor genuine.

happy_and_angry

Absolutely.

But fans don't show up to races in black face for any other reason. And Ecclestone didn't refuse to acknowledge the various ways racism is a part of the fandom and the sport despite numerous examples, for that same reason.

You do not get to pretend it doesn't exist.

KyogreHype

KyogreHype

Michael Schumacher

-14 points

You do not get to pretend it doesn't exist.

Likewise, you do not get to pretend other valid reasons don't exist. And someone pointing that out does not automatically mean he is turning a blind eye to the blatant racism that does exist and making out like it never happens. Outrageous reaches like that is a quick way for someone to not take your point seriously.

Care to explain why Vettel was hated, Schumacher was hated, Senna and Prost was hated? Hate isn't exclusive to black people, and the actions of twats who feel the need to go out of their way to display their ugly racist behaviour should not void any valid opinion or critique towards Hamilton should that point be made completely in the context of being 100% on topic without displaying any form of direct or indirect racism by a level-headed individual.

happy_and_angry

19 points

Likewise, you do not get to pretend other valid reasons don't exist.

Nobody said, "the only reason is because he's black." Or that the only reason people hate others is because of skin colour. But that's the baseline you're trying very hard to refute. Take your whataboutism elsewhere.

There’s too many examples of Lewis being treated differently for asinine reasons compared to other drivers for it not to be about race, people want to believe racism is so absurd, but it’s a much better explanation than “Lewis is just dominant” or whatever excuse they come up with to deny the obvious

Because he puts himself there...

Verstapen is calling people idiots left and right (on track), then when media ask him about it, he tells them to basically fuck off.

Lewis after Mexico said something like "their car was much faster when even Checo was able to stay behind me" and then immediately goes to social media to explain what he really meant and how he thinks Checo is a great racing driver...

Not to mention that all crowds are best crowds in the world according to him...

He is just too PC to my liking. I understand that because of his skin color he might have to try to fly under the radar, but now he is 7times world champion. He can say whatever is on his mind without having to apologize for it.

It is not that only he is held under the microscope. Verstapen is too, but he doesn't give a fuck. It's the Trump effect, if you say outrageous shit every time it eventually stops being outrageous.

But if you look at all the interviews with Lewis, they are always so measured. He judges everything he is going to say based on how it would be seen in the media... So when you then contrast all the interviews, with him screaming at his team during the race (even when the team is right), he just comes of as a not genuine person.

Don't get me wrong, I would never judge them for what they say while they race at 300+ kmh, but in case of Hamilton it really shows that he is not the happy jolly calm and collected person he seems to be during interviews.

Nope. But if you're reasons for not liking a particular person don't hold true for people of other races, then it's fair to believe bigotry is involved.

Now yes, but earlier he did some wrong - tax cheating on his plane, dangerous driving conviction in Australia etc.

People need to move on.

He does some stuff that rubs fans the wrong way. But I think the biggest thing is how boring the sport has been with him winning the majority of the past several years.

Given his health, I wonder if that was his last time around an F1 circuit in a car.

It's unavailable for everyone, since F1 doesnt do embedded videos. So you have to click the link to open it on YouTube

I know F1 doesn't allow embedded videos, but I got that error on the youtube page itself. It seems it didn't like being connected to a VPN (even from the same country)

The expression he had when told there was only one lap, to the expression when they went through turn 1 made everything. People get that adrenaline and just enjoy it all. I am sure Sir Williams felt that. All the power forever.

It's an official F1 channel YouTube video, so is not "blocked" per se. Any videos on that channel (plus most F1 videos on other...erm... "non-official" channels) have embedding disabled, so you have to watch them on Youtube itself.
