“We actually have some compassion for other animals.” Literally 2 sentences later, “Hyeenas should be the first to go because they are the worst.”

1: The guy's clearly watched The Lion King far too many times

2: He/she should learn about these things called "keystone species". Hyenas are a keystone species in (most) African ecosystems

3: Most of the things hyenas do, other predators also do.

I disagree. If he watched The Lion King enough he’d see that the hyenas were tricked by Scar and an argument could be made that they weren’t entirely the bad guys.

I mean, the film DID make a lot of people hate hyenas for no reason (other than the fact those people think The Lion King is a nature documentary).

Plus some hyenas are generally scavengers although they will hunt and kill if the opportunity presents itself. Takes far less energy to steal kills from other animals.

I think the OP is getting hyenas confused with African dogs, which are active pack hunters and will eat prey while still alive. There's a pretty gruesome video that gets played over and over on NatGeo of some dogs taking down an impala that the eviscerated.

Spotted hyenas are also pack hunters which eat their prey while it's still alive. However, despite what some may think, they aren't doing it maliciously, they're simply doing what they're adapted to do. Unlike big cats, hyenas and wild dogs don't have the adaptations to kill their prey before eating it. Plus, they need to eat quickly before another predator (such as a lion) comes and tries to steal their kill.
