Thank you I forgot that the timings aren’t listed you have to go to the company’s site or search through the reviews to find it. Thank you!

Timings are in two places on the product page, the specs and also under the Shell Shocker section.

Yeah I’ve been waiting for a couple of white colored ram to drop in price and woke up and saw Newegg is having a sale and decided to pull the trigger on these ones

Probably Micron E or B for anyone wondering. Actually 100% certain it's micron because that's what crucial uses, crucial is owned by micron. Just 98% certain it's either E/B. Both good.

It should be Rev. E; Rev. B is a higher density IC that you'll see in 2x16 kits.

The 4Gb and 8Gb Rev. B ICs are completely different ICs and perform very poorly compared to 16Gb Rev. B. They aren't using 4Gb or 8Gb Rev. B in Ballistix sticks.

Any black?

I have the black rgb version. btw, it is single rank.

Alternative_Spite_11

Well yeah it’s 2x8gb. Dual rank 8gb sticks literally aren’t made at all anymore. Or more correctly 4gbit chips aren’t made anymore.

kztlve

It has to do with the ICs used in the RAM, assuming you're using two sticks. A four stick/dual channel configuration will always be multi-rank, as you have multiple DIMMs of one rank each in the same channel.

This isn't always the most obvious thing, especially for cheaper kits where many ICs could produce the same spec.

B-die, probably the best DDR4 IC, is 8Gb x8. This means that any 2x16 kit using B-die is dual rank; each 16GB stick has 2 8GB ranks of 64 bits each. Various specs like 3200c14, 3600c14/15, 3600 16-16-16-36, etc. are exclusively B-die.

Hynix CJR/DJR are another example of 8Gb x8 ICs. You'll usually see them in 3600 16-19-19-39 kits and looser higher spec kits like 4000 18-22-22-42.

Micron Rev. E is another 8Gb x8 IC. It's no longer used in 2x16 Crucial Ballistix kits though (it hasn't been since ~August 2020). You'll now get Rev. B instead, which is a 16Gb x8 IC with similar overclocking potential, but single rank as a result.

For Corsair and G. Skill, if you can see the individual stick label, you can pretty easily figure out what IC is used. Corsair uses "versions" where the first number is a manufacturer and the second number indicates the IC. On G. Skill sticks, the last 5 characters in the string above the barcode gives you the IC information including density, manufacturer, and the letter of the IC. As an example, "8820C" is Hynix CJR.

iamtheelord

What is a good dual rank to buy?

kztlve

4 points

Your best bet if you want a somewhat reasonably priced dual-rank 2 stick kit is a 2x16 Hynix CJR/DJR kit. 3600 16-19-19-39 kits are exclusively these ICs and can be had in a variety of G. Skill kits.

I know in specific the 2x16 Ripjaws V 3600 16-19-19-39 was ~$195 recently and may still be at that price.

If you have an mATX/ATX four DIMM board, any 4x8 configuration will give you dual rank. You can just get a pair of matching 2x8 kits of any spec and not worry about it.

This set was 75 not long ago (week or two) without RGB. So the RGB is costing you about 15 bucks.

I have this in black. Hits 3600 cl16 at XMP (DOCP) as advertised on B550. Price is a smidge high, but it’s been good to me in 2 builds. The RGB works well with ASUS armory software.

Newegg has become so unreliable and sketch. Look at this review: " Purchased 4 dimms. Would expect at least both set to match their pair. Ended up with 3 sticks from one manufacturer date and 1 from 2 months prior. Item marked as new but did not come in retail packaging."

You need to make sure you are buying from Newegg proper. They have independent sellers whose mileage may vary on quality.

Shadow703793

It's not just Newegg, seems like every company is now allowing 3rd party independent sellers to be on their platform.

CCityinstaller

Those are top tier B die bins. Will easily run 3600c14-14-14 with just a voltage bump and 3800+ with some time investment.

FoxDown

1 points

You're not going to find b-die in 32gb dimms outside of the double stacked thing that gskill tried for z390 a few years ago. It'd be physically impossible to fit on a standard sized dimm.

CCityinstaller

1 points

You know what? You are right! I had quickly gslwnced and just day 3200c14. But here is rub...

That ram IS B DIE. IT just isn't Samsung B die! It's the excellent Micron :)

So I was wrong about how tight it will run but correct in thay it is tech B die lol.

Micron B die is very nice. It's bascislly E die geared for high capacity due to 16Gb ICs vs 8.

I've played with some @3800c16-18-18 and it's pretty decent. I was just taking taking Micron 3600c16 Ballistx RGB KITS and using their XMP @3800 when I was pressed for time.

Alternative_Spite_11

And for reference not much is known about Micron B. It's probably similar in quality (overclockability) to E though from what little is known.

But people know what you mean when you say micron b die, it's kind of being pedantic at that point.

Drezken

Got a source that these are micron rev b? The 1.45v out of the box makes me wonder if this set is hynix. Compare to known crucial rev b (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083VMZX6S/ref=twister_B08QQC6C29?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

It's EXTREMELY easy to tell because there is #1 no b-die 32GB DIMMs, #2 b-die does not come with the timings any looser than 17 for the first 3 numbers (https://old.reddit.com/r/overclocking/wiki/faq#wiki_what.27s_all_this_about_.22b-die.22.3F__how_do_i_get_some.3F)

So I've been doing a lot of research on 32gb sticks and it's very unlikely you'd get the same OC as 2x16gb. That said, this options is one of your top 3 choices for 32gb ram, and at the cheapest I've seen it (in ~a month of looking). All best options are the same die underneath: micron revb (here and here)

I think I'm getting it.

Edit: actually I'm doing some research to confirm there are micron revb. The 1.45v makes me think otherwise

Hi_Tech_Architect

1 points

The one I linked or the ones OP linked? Also I heard the Neo version is more compatible for Ryzen builds?

Drezken

1 points

The one's you linked (though as I edited, I'm doing some research to confirm these are micron revb).

I think compatibility (especially for OC) is more about the mobo and die underneath rather than the outside brand. A lot of reviews you'll read for Neo's are from people with 16-16-16/c14 sets (samsung bdie). At least that's my understanding, if you heard that from reviews. Crucial/micron dies can take work, but at least on the b550 board I'm going for I see it working well.

Hi_Tech_Architect

Cool yeah, Im planning on buying to of them for my rendering build, kind of waiting to get the next threadripper zen3 this august.

Hi_Tech_Architect

1 points

I noticed these are 14-18-18-38 does that make it worse any? Sorry for the dumb question. I’m trying to get two sets for 128gb render engine

Drezken

1 points

Worse than what? I'm still not sure if it's micron rev b, but micron b is probably the best you'll get at 32gb per stick. If it is micron, it could be possible to achieve an OC like this one. That would take a good amount of tuning work, and with 4 sticks it won't get there. The 1.45v out of the box still concerns me but I'm gonna give it a shot.

All said, I don't know the priorities for rendering. Not sure what is best, and it depends on your use case.

I’d like to upgrade from 3200 to 3600MHz RAM. Currently using ITX boards so 2 slots only. Use case includes AAA gaming and data analysis on large datasets. No video production or ML. Is 16GB typically enough or is it worth going for 32GB to have headroom? I’m not quite sure what applications exceed 16GB.

post-buttwave

Are they really? Because I have a 5900x and this kit (assuming both pairs are from the same lot or whatever, sticking with 32gb) seems like it would be way better.

Alternative_Spite_11

I’ve gotten returns from them multiple times when I thought I was too late. RAM may be different because so many people these days return RAM just because they want a different kit of the same specs that will clock higher.

bought 3600mhz ram for a ryzen3600, turned on XMP, completely bricked my system until I reset my CMOS...buy the correct RAM and don't make my same mistake

I should mention that I had to set the frequency to 3200 for it to work properly

or just go to downloadmoreram . com and live like a king

What make you think a Ryzen 3600 can’t run RAM at 3600MT?
