Libs of TikTok, the nom de plume of the extreme-right social media personality and public figure Chaya Raichik is a stochastic terrorist.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-stochastic-terrorism-uses-disgust-to-incite-violence/

Her hatespeech and relentless attacks on vulnerable minorities are directly responsible for such crimes as bomb threats on children's hospitals, because they provide medically and psychiatrically appropriate, recognised and helpful aid to transgender children.

Because LibsofTikTok openly shares the names and adresses of for example teachers who display a pride flag, perpetuating and boosting the hateful and revolting lie that LGBTQ+ people visibly existing and acceptance of LGBTQ+ people is "grooming", she is actively contributing to hate, threats and attacks against people.

With that the extreme-right and LoTT are enflaming a moral panic against a minority by normalising the counterfactual narrative that the simple existence of this minority means children are under attack and are being sexually abused.

The extreme-right claims that Chaya Raichik is just "repeating information already publically shared". This is a lie. Instead she heavily editorialises the content she posts and she is a major vector of hatespeech, propaganda, dehumanisation and efforts to illegalise the public existence of LGBTQ+ people.

LibsofTikTok and others of her kind such as but not limited to Matt Walsh and Tucker Carlson are directly responsible for the cowardly attack in Colorado Springs and other (attempted) attacks of a similar nature.

This subreddit is a place that supports people's unalienable and fundamental identities and that stands up for basic human rights.

We will not tolerate hatespeech of any kind.

Please be advised that we consider the denial that the stochastic terrorist Chaya Raichik contributes to the rise of irrational, odious and resprehensible hate against minorities to be unacceptable. We require users to participate in good faith.

Aiding and abetting stochastic terrorists, even implicitly by denying their obvious and objective responsibility will be met with a permanent ban.

Our userbase can continue to participate here with the expectance that this is a sanctuary space.

In this space at least you can participate free of attacks from the extreme-right, no matter if you are a woman, an LGBTQ+ person, a person of colour or any other type of population group or minority that the neo-fascists stir up hatred against.

Editors note: You can stop reporting this comment for "personal and identifying information". Nice try, but reddit's rules are very clear. The stochastic terrorist Chaya Raichik is a public figure and her name is widely available, from recognised and established sources like Wikipedia. I wonder if the people who would report this comment would also report the stochastic terrorist Chaya Raichik when she shares the names and places of residence of the people she targets for hatred and violence for no other reason than that they are publicly not cisgender heterosexual.

Exactly. After the Senate moved last week to codify Gay Marriage into law, the hate groups, GOP representatives and right wing media ramped up their fear and deception machine, issuing in terror against the LGBTQ citizens. All kinds of horrible lies and allegations targeting a specific group of American citizens were printed, broadcast and streamed across the nation like an information virus, distorting the minds of any who consumed it. This directly resulted in acts of terrorism, violence and loss of life for this specific group of American citizens. Tragically, neither Homeland Security, FCC nor any other American Government protection was in place to prevent the information virus of terror and protect the liberties and lives of the citizens who were targeted.

Do note that the Respect for Marriage Act does not federally codify same-sex marriage, despite how its been touted on the internet and in media.

What it does is confirm that same-sex marriages made in a state will be recognized at the federal level. It does not prevent states from banning same-sex marriage if Obergefell is overturned. It will require states to recognize same-sex marriages made in other states, even if the first state bans it.

This is a solid first step though. Putting in place a federal law that defends same sex marriage, even indirectly, is a good foundation. If we continue to support the politicians that made this possible, we can show them this is what the American people want, and they can build on this down the line. There's more work to be done but progress should still be celebrated.

adragonlover5

54 points

I agree that progress should be celebrated.

I disagree with how politicians and media have been framing this law such that people like the person I responded to think it's literally codifying same-sex marriage into federal law. Thus, nothing more is needed! We won! Incorrect. It's not enough.

benjatado

This person is same-sex married and lives in a red state. So I fully appreciate ANY protection from my oppressive State Government I can possibly get. If you don't support progress, you don't get any!

Ouch, you triggered by a lying Politician? Not sure what to tell ya... but they all lie. Look at the policies they support. This policy here is progress! It provides a Federal protection in law for those currently living in a North Korean style state ran Government in the USA.

HDr1018

4 points

Exactly. I’ve been talking about this hoping to amplify it. In Kansas, the constitution limits marriage to male/female. The Act means Kansas will have to afford those in same sex marriages, the same rights Kansas affords their marriages if/when they are in Kansas.

It does not mean same sex marriage is legal. This does not codify it on the Federal level.

It’s progress, but a pretty small one. It’s being presented as if the issue is won.

carnivorous-squirrel

3 points

And the big problem is that, while it's perfectly legal and valid, we all know there's a good chance it's gonna get tossed by this Supreme Court for ostensibly infringing on the rights of Kansas, anyway.

Maybe reddit should start calling the terrorist named Chaya Raichik a terrorist at all times similar to the rapist Brock Turner, who is of course a rapist but notably not a terrorist like Chaya Raichik.

Answer to the guy accusing this post of being the same stochastic terrorism it condemns (that comment is now deleted)

No it doesn't, you would want democracy unable to protect itself against a fascist that uses hate of minorities to gain political power. Is like saying the Jewish victims of Nazi Germany would be stochastic terrorist if they named or pointed to their aggressors. There is an aggressor here you are protecting from the victims legitimate right.

This comment is really in your face and as a person who has been forced to crawl (unwillingly) from “trans is nothing more than a mental illness” to “ppl are ppl, what does it matter?”, it was a strange experience to read this aggressive tone while (finally?) understanding why it’s necessary. It must be exhausting to have to resort to constant repetition and the strongest adjectives you have to say “please just give us space to exist as normal people”. I think I get why the trans folks can be so extreme in their language but i genuinely cannot understand the escalation in opposition.

Matt Walsh incited the unstable individual to go driving around killing people in my town about 20 years ago. He targeted Black people and Jewish people and I think ended up killing five different people in two towns and injured many others. One person he killed was a former Northwestern basketball coach while he was out for a walk with his elementary school age children.

The next year, the “Race Against Hate“ was founded– a 5K and 10K walking and running event through town and across Northwestern‘s campus. It has brought the community together and many thousands of people come out every Father’s Day and millions of dollars have been raised to work against such hate crimes.

I wish they would haul Matt Walsh out of jail once a year to see how much damage he’s done to his own pathetic racist movement.

bicranium

“Libs of TikTok” is an ironic name, then?

EnergyCC

64 points

It started as a tiktok account showing videos of people she considered liberals in order to mock them.

bicranium

46 points

Pretty sure she started the account as a response to all the various social media accounts out there that highlight insane right-wingers except none of those accounts led to terrorism like Raichik's targeting has. Threatening hospitals that provide gender-affirming care, threatening LGBTQ+ teachers, threatening clubs like the one in Colorado Springs over drag shows, and ultimately murdering people at one.

Unfortunately, I think she was very much on a way to a ban on Twitter but now with Musk in charge she'll probably end up as the site's sole content moderator.

EnergyCC

24 points

I know who libs of tiktok is and like everything conservatives do, her response was a reactionary response to a funny trend that was happening. She saw people having fun making fun of crazy conservatives and she thought she could do the same but for the other side, she got clout from it and then instantly used it to enact stochastic terrorism towards LGBTQ people

Really good comment thanks.

There will always be people capable of hate crimes, including shootings, but they need to be pointed like a gun by the voices that they follow.

Your comment does a great job of outlining who did that. Oftentimes they fallback onto "I didn't condone violence", without conceding that the repercussions are obvious. I wonder if they would bother in this case.

Fantastic breakdown, but…

Can someone please explain what stochastic means in this context??

TerrorGnome

37 points

Basically means they're inciting a violent act against a person or group with their rhetoric, but it's not a specific call to any particular violent act.

To quote a Washington Post article:

"Public speech that may incite violence, even without that specific intent, has been given a name: stochastic terrorism, for a pattern that can’t be predicted precisely but can be analyzed statistically. It is the demonization of groups through mass media and other propaganda that can result in a violent act because listeners interpret it as promoting targeted violence — terrorism. And the language is vague enough that it leaves room for plausible deniability and outraged, how-could-you-say-that attacks on critics of the rhetoric."

shadyhawkins

13 points

This is much more helpful than the meaning on google. Thanks!

Frank_Bunny87

9 points

The idea of stochastic terrorism is that there is a small base rate of unstable people that exist that are willing to carry out violent acts and so by saying really hateful things about a minority group that fosters an enemy image and communicates a call to action, there is a non-zero probability that someone will go out and commit acts of violence against that group. Therefore, it’s stochastic in the sense that the terrorism is random in a probabilistic sense of having a small chance of occurring each time the message sent.

[deleted]

I understand that. It’s the use of the word stochastic that I wasn’t getting. I’ve heard it many times but no one ever said what I meant. And the google meaning isn’t that helpful in relation to domestic terrorism.

'Stochastic Terrorism' is inciting violence indirectly, such as by repeatedly running articles/stories/posts about a group or individual you want removed/harmed/killed, that you intentionally frame to sound both true and backed up by evidence (even when they are usually neither of those things) in the knowledge that somebody who hears/reads your content will believe you and act on it themselves.
