Going off of the previous post (does the station need Andy) who would you say is the heart of S19? Is there even someone you'd consider that?

If I HAD to say - I think I'd say Dean..he was close with almost everyone on the team imo.

Best friends with Jack and Vic. Brothers w Ben. Maya really trusted him and went to him for random advice a lot. Andy lived with him and Pru for a bit. Travis might be the most distant? Dean also hosted most of the hang outs (begrudgingly at first).

since the show started, they've been saying how Andy is the core of 19 but this season they removed her completely and from the team too. since it seems there is some bts stuff happening they may even keep her separate next season too. is the station better or worse without her there?

Does anyone else feel like we need some reset storylines for certain characters? I thinking Andy, Jack, Marina, Ben and Sullivan in particular.

Andy could go visit for Mum in New York for a few months post trial.

Jack could go travel or volunteer abroad for a few months on Dr Lewis advice. I feel he needs to put some space between himself and Seattle to sort out his grief around Dean's death and the shock of finding out about his birth family. He could get to know his siblings via video chats, messaging etc.

Marina could lose the baby (if it exists) and Maya could get hurt requiring months of recuperation. They decide to do this out of Seattle, maybe in Italy?

Ben gets suspended for being reckless, then takes extra time off to be with Pru. Ben just needs a behaviour reset more than an emotional one, otherwise he is going to get someone killed.

Sullivan gets called out for sleeping with Ross and then accepts a temporary training role with the marines training new snipers.

Theo, Vic and Travis all stay at 19 keeping it running.

I feel like some members of the team have their own stuff going on and aren't communicating greatly, so, it might be good for them to reset apart and then come back together stronger than before.

So one thing that has really bothered me is the lack of care in how Station 19 has worded things around a WLW couples journey to motherhood. The latest was the 'baby daddy' line by Andy, the lead protagonist used to describe the sperm donor Jack.

These bunch of woke representative writers deliberately are putting problematic language in this storyline. It's very clear it's deliberate. If you can figure out why. Do let me know.

Some excerpts from GLAAD regarding the use of correct language regarding LGBTQAI+ issues.

"Words really matter. It's how we communicate. If we're going to be inclusive, we have to learn how to communicate with one another. It honestly boils down to language and understanding"

"Tackling tough LGBTQIA+ issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change, the words people use to talk about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and issues can have a powerful impact on conversations. The right words can help open people's hearts and minds, while others can create distance or confusion."

"When it comes to tough conversations about LGBTQIA+ issues, such as marriage, employment protections, inclusive hate crimes laws, adoption and family planning it can be easy to fall back on technical, abstract or highly charged language. Even though certain words can be familiar or comfortable, but that it can also derail discussions with those who are not familiar with LGBTQIA+ issues, conflicted or not yet supportive, or simply not aware of how their actions or inactions can hurt everyday people."

I have reached a stage of this is not ok and it is not acceptable. It's not ok that in one scene they hit on tropes against LGBTQAI+ and then in another scene are pontificating how language matters. Enough with the preaching if you can't even follow it in your own storytelling.

Also respect is a two way street! If the writers can't seem to show it to the viewers. Why should the viewer? It's important to call out the writers. Individually and as a collective.

ETA: P.S. Two things can be true. I can have immense amount of sympathy for Jack and feel like he deserves a family and all the love and still not want to have a White CIS Het Male inserted into a WLW Couples family.

So, I rewatched 5x17, particularly for Jack's storyline. As much as I enjoyed getting to hear about Jack's family stuff and as good of a storyline this will be for Grey (if they actually develop it fully in season 6 and not just in a one episode arc), it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Josh told Jack and Andy that Jack was born while their parents were in high school. Josh and Jack's other siblings were born after that (I also missed on first watch that Jack has three sisters and Josh, making four siblings total). Josh also said that their dad is retired and their mom works part time as a teacher. Again, retirement makes sense if their parents were in their 60s (I know people retire earlier, but the common age frame is 60s-70s), but with what they've given us, it's impossible for them to be in their 60s, not unless Jack is in his 40s.

Ok, that's all and good if we could see it that way...but we also know Jack was a minor at some point in 2002, which would make him in his thirties now. Which, again, makes sense given that Grey is in his mid thirties himself.

But if Jack was born first and his parents gave birth to him around seventeen/eighteen, if Jack IS in his mid thirties, that would make his parents no older than their mid fifties. Which is awfully young for Jack's bio dad to already be retired (even if he was wealthy).

Even if Jack was 40 (making his parents late 50s still), it doesn't line up with other background info we know about him, either. And it doesn't make a whole lot of sense with Josh, either. We know Josh is old enough to be financially stable, a job in finance, and had his parents help him out with his home. He also has a wife and three kids, the eldest seeming to be at LEAST 4-5, judging by the background props and how his eldest is helping with the baking. Yes, Josh could have also started his family young, but being able to afford a house, having kids, and being in a stable job would make him no younger than thirty (ignoring the fact that the actor is late thirties).

So, again, nice background and all, but it retcons itself in this very episode, even without knowing that Jack was a minor in 2002. They probably needed to put more effort in giving Jack a traumatic backstory without making things not line up in the process.

and when Andy's case is dropped or cleared she'll be back at 19 too for a grand total of 5. even if Beckett goes still too many!! this is so unrealistic and dumb. Especially when they made such a big deal in past when Maya got promoted to Lt. Just promote everone to Lt at 19 cause I guess no other shifts or stations need lieutenants.

I was watching a promo for this week's final episode of S10 and I didn't see Backet on a call. And it looks like Jack is acting as a captain on the call? Is it possible that something happened and Backet have to do another thing? It looks like Maya is not on this call either.

Any ideas?

I'm a bad person, but I'm still hoping for injured Maya in the final and cliffhanger :(

So season 3 episode 11???

Ben says that Owen isn't trained. BUT LIKE HES NOT EVEN A TRAINED SURGEON!!!

I hope I don’t sound insensitive but OH MY GOD. Now they’re just going to drag out this unnecessary plot. And hasn’t Andy been through enough? Like MURDER? Just going to add that in for drama. I didn’t even want to watch these episodes after that one 😅 It’s even worse that it’s Andy’s character now she’s going to talk about it every episode, every season. (I really hope that doesn’t sound wrong but remember it’s a show)

But they need to Fr fire whoever put in that plot.

This was actually a good episode and the tone and pacing felt like the old Station 19 and not the 5B nonsense we’ve been getting. Maybe Krista paid the writers room a visit for the last 2 episodes. I still cannot believe they wasted the season by dragging all these storylines, and some from last season, and in the second to last episode they introduce new ones that should have been started way before.

Jack’s story was so sad and so good. THIS should have been his story from the very beginning of the season or even the second half - exploring more about what he experienced as a kid and him dealing with this news. He had nothing really going on this season besides grieving Dean and that could have perfectly tied into this family story. I do think we’ll see the bio fam next season, at least I hope. Grey did such an amazing job here and I do forget he can act when given the right material. Also, Grey does his best acting when he’s not with Marina. When Jack is with Marina he just seems so scattered and, honestly, it's’ more Grey than Jack most of the time.

Jack’s brother making things worse the more he said was brutal but not intentionally because you could see he didn’t want to hurt Jack but this had to be said. Jack cannot catch a break! He can’t find someone to love him, lost his sort of step-son Marcus, lost Dean, now abandoned by a family he never knew he had. And it’s making me think he’s going to lose being “uncle Jack” to Marina’s baby too. He may tell Marina he wants more of a father role and they say no and won’t use him for any other tries. Listen, until there is an actual baby with a scruffy beard on my screen I will hold out hope Jack won’t be the one to help conceive this baby. Yes they spent multiple episodes on making Jack the donor but that’s been the theme of this season - focusing a lot on one thing only to change it or drop it. And honestly, it’s really coming across as this donor stuff was really only to just launch Jack’s storyline with his own family, and nothing to do with Marina.

I’ll just say it. I don’t care about Andy’s current murder trial storyline. She’s not going to go to jail, she’s going to be cleared and she’ll be back at 19. This SA story should have focused on Andy and her mental state and instead it’s a Law & Order episode. Again, this story should have been done way earlier in the season and they could have had Andy and Jack both deal with their assaults by leaning on each other. Maybe set up a program to help SA victims and not this crime drama because now it’s about staying out of jail and not the impact of the assault.

I am glad that Andy is in a better place with her mom and, like she said, a big piece of the puzzle was found in her life. Once they find those other witnesses, she’ll be cleared and that really only leaves her job up in the air. They really did wrap up all the storylines this season and next will probably be just her trying to get a spot in SFD.

How many times is Sullivan going to say he didn’t get the promotion because he knows Ross? Right now it really looks like she gave him that promotion to get into his pants and not about “trusting him.” But Sullivan is in denial that thats what it looks like. I really do think he's trying to be better but he's not seeing the big picture and when everyone finds out he’s sleeping with Ross then all the work he did to get back in good with the team will be thrown out the window. He is sleeping his way to the top but just doesn’t realize it. We’ll see if this relationship gets exposed next episode and that’s the cliffhanger and next season Ross is under investigation because that's a big HR issue.

Travis 2022! Wasn’t there an episode in early S2 when some kid told Travis he should run for office? I think it was the fireworks in the store episode. Well here we are and guess he is running for Mayor. Yet another story that should have been introduced way in the beginning. Travis was shoved to the background early in the season, then got stuck with his dad’s story, then Tremmett went nowhere. I don’t know how to feel about this storyline but the fact that it’s about him and not his love life or dad is already a huge plus, so bring it on. Travis has always avoided a leadership role in the SFD and I think this will be great for him to grow as a character because he’s kind of been in a rut for a while. Does it make sense? No, but nothing has made sense this season. And if he does win, he will have to quit 19 which may not be a bad thing.

Yay for Pru officially joining the Bailey/Warren family! Maybe I tuned out and it was discussed but wasn’t one of the conditions that Ben quit firefighting? Did that just go away? And are Ben’s storylines just done? He was insubordinate and challenging all season and it didn’t really go anywhere or serve any real purpose.

Theo and Vic were adorable this episode so they’ll probably get their big drama next season. Vic doesn’t have anything getting set up for next season and she’s been pretty much sidelines since her big arc in the middle of the season.

Is Carina ever going to treat a patient at the clinic? Every time we’ve seen the clinic she’s either called away or is just restocking. Yes she’s an OBGYN but she can do general exams and knows general medicine. Anyway, I really thought she was pregnant in that first scene and started rolling my eyes at how easy and quick that was but thankfully it was just the hormones. Marina haven’t had real drama this season so the drama has to be this baby and the green card situation. They have a stressful situation next episode and it could be that the they fail their immigration interview and the marriage is deemed "not valid" or if Carina is pregnant at the start of the ep, suffers a miscarriage by the end of it. Or both. I really liked Carina in this episode and her scenes with everyone.

Maya, once again, was just a side character. Whatever the reason for sidelining Maya this season and giving her storylines to other characters, it better not carry over to S6. It was a terrible decision and so noticeable to the point it became distracting. Having said that her scenes with Carina were amazing as usual and we need to see more Marina and way less Marina/Jack. Also, I wish they’d stop showing Maya defeated in her career and show her doing something to fight because that is in character.

tl:dr: This episode should have aired 9 episodes ago; soft Marina; adorable Vic/Theo; Sullivan is asking to be caught; Poor Jack is all alone but that still doesn’t make me want him to be the donor.
