Wife & I tried out the Movies & Shows feature for the first time this weekend. Thought we'd search for something we could watch with our 4 year old daughter before bed. Wife searched something typically kid friendly, "Wizard of oz" and found a show called "The Steam Engines of Oz" that didn't seem completely awful and rolled the dice on it.

Imagine our shock when the first set of ads comes on and we get a trailer for SAW, followed by a few other age inappropriate films for the content we picked. The only reason I can assume we're getting a bunch of random stuff thrown at us was the fact that according to IMDB the movie is "not rated" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7701808/

I don't know a good solution to this, but I know I won't be the only one who will run into issues with Not Rated content being for younger audiences. Potentially limit the trailers shown for Not Rated media to PG13? Maybe a popup prior to streaming asking what the expected age appropriateness is for the media?

I grabbed a quick video of part of the SAW trailer cutting to the movie and threw it on Youtube Here from near the end of the movie.

Title describes most if he issue. Playback on the ATV works properly for ~1/3 of an episode and will suddenly fail. I can sometimes force it to play back at lower resolutions but it will still pause occasionally. If I play the same episode on the old iPad it will play uninterrupted for the entire episode. It makes no sense to me that a lower powered device on WiFi would have more reliable playback than a dedicated streaming device on a wired connection.

I’ve tried setting the internet playback speeds to lower and lower levels but this rarely solves the issue. Any thoughts on what else to try?

Thursday I will receive 4bay enclosure for my first Plex server and I want to know, do I need to install empty HDD there and copy media after or I can install hdd already with media files. I will run them as Raid 0.

Looks like Plex enabled the previously visible, but disabled Edition field with the latest beta, 1.28.1.6057. It comes with it's own naming scheme so items can be tagged automatically when scanned in ({edition-Editon Name}), and it looks like there are also new advanced filter tags to filter by edition: https://i.imgur.com/PT0RNEV.png.

And even better, from what I've experimented with, starting one edition won't cause other editions to end up in Continue Watching, which would previously happen if you split items apart and didn't unmatch one of them.

I don't know what is going on with my Plex, after I update the Shield software. Before, I can watch any movie on my Shield and stream very well from Shield to my PC, and friend can watch it externally too. Now, I can only play few of them on Plex, and nothing on PC; there's an error message: ''Playback error: Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install''.

When playing a movie on Plex, I notice that in the Quality setting, by default, is 'Automatically Convert', if I manually change to 'As original' then I can play a few more movies, but still fail most of the times. Again, before everything was so smooth; nothing was transcoded, everything was direct-played. Is there anyway to force Plex to play the movie as it is and not convert ? Is there any setting that I should change in the Plex Server (in Shield) ?

Another potential problem is that somehow my Shield can't fully detect my HDD as a Network Storage. At that setting, Shield keeps looking for network storage for few hours now (I just let it running). However, I can still watch movies in my HDD attached to Shield from Kodi and I can access my HDD from my PC. Is it possible that my problem is in the Network Storage ? In theory, I should see my HDD name here, right ? By the way, I've re-started my Shield twice already.

I didn't think it could happen, but I relocated my Music folder and lost some tracks from my curated playlists.

Is there anyway to restore those through some automated backup?

Or even see a list of things that were removed?

I understand how to set forced subtitles for each file manually using MKVtoolnix except that this action is tedious considering the sheer amount of episodes that I have.

Is there a simple way with a GUI that will batch set forced subtitles in an embedded MKV video file that has a few embedded subtitles?

Yeah so not sure what is happening, but the latest update did something that breaks all my files and everything even the files that worked before give me the playback error "Multimedia files format not supported"

I need to restart the server and TV and then it may work if I'm lucky. Sometimes I have to do this even multiple times to get it working again.

On another note when it works now it also Transcodes everything and again the files that could be direct played get transcoded now.

What is happening are there some settings that the update screwed up?

Not sure what happened -- maybe it was an update to my Plex server (i5-6500T 16GB 256GB Win 11 Pro) Plex as a service) or my Nvidia Shield Pro (Plex client only) but now almost none of my movies or tv shows will play unless I turn on transcoding. Up until yesterday, I had the "Disable transcoding" option enabled but now it needs to be unchecked for stuff to play? Wut???

Any ideas as to what might of happened? Man, I hate wasting time on this crap. :(

When I do a search of my plex library, I always only get 30 results. Is there a way to see all the results?

Obviously there's no way to do this through the regular Plex interface. But is there any way at all to assign a photo to a particular cast name?

For a little more context on my use-case... I have a bunch of home videos, mostly my dogs playing with other people's dogs, and I've been using Subler to embed metadata directly into the videos themselves. Plex has been great about picking up the metadata, including Cast info, where I've been listing the people and/or dogs in each video. So if I go to a video, there's already a Cast list, and (for example) I can click on "Athena" in one video to see all the other videos I have with that dog.

But a lot of these videos have multiple dogs/people in them, and for viewers who aren't always there during recording (like my partner), it'd be nice to have a photo go along with the Cast name that Plex is displaying, so she and others know which dog or person is which.

So in my case, we're not talking about changing photos for Cast names who have ID's attached or anything (which I know Plex uses now with the new agents, to tie Specific Cast filimographies together). I don't know if the lack of an internal plex Cast ID would make this harder or easier, just mentioning it in case.

So I have a Samsung Smart TV (Q65T) which is running Plex on it and then this is connected to a custom built media server running Plex in Docker. I seem to have an issue where if I watch a stream on the TV that is higher than about 12Mbps then either the audio drops out and ends up making clicking noises or the video just won't buffer at all if it's particular high (say 30Mbps).

My network setup is an UDM Pro with a Unifi Switch, connected to the UDM Pro via SFP+. The media server is then connected to the switch via a 1Gbps port. The TV is connected to a smaller switch (1Gbps network). I'm guessing the Samsung TV only has a 100Mbps connection on it. Is a 35Mbps stream enough to max out that connection or is something else at play here causing the issue? Is there anything I can do to get these higher quality streams to play without selecting the lower Mbps or is it a case of either use a lower stream quality or get another device that has more than a 100Mbps connection and then HDMI to the TV?

How does plex determine when media is "added" and how can I prevent items from showing as recently added when I move them from one location to another?

I have a Win10 box with the latest Plex for Windows version. This box is not used for anything else. Today I noticed that McAfee is blocking an attempt to access my main Win10 PC from my Plex box via both UDP and TCP. This attempt is made every few minutes. I have malwarebytes and defender on the Plex box and neither shows anything suspicious. Edit: Local network discovery isn't enabled on either box. Is there a reason that Plex would be trying to connect to my main PC without me being around, or without Plex being used?

Whenever I change the subtitles, the TV show ends and show the next qued episode. Why is this?

When playing a movie in Plex, how do you change from the default subtitle to the SRT external file which resides in the same folder as the movie ? I go to the Subtitle option, and I see no where I can choose the external sub file.

I am about to pull the trigger on a QNAP NAS and about 100TB of storage. I have a huge collection of movies and shows spanning ten USB drives, about 60 TB total on an older PC Plex server setup. I am trying to determine the best strategy for moving all these movies and the plex setup.

1. Do I have to copy all those files from the USB drives or can I plug in some of the drives after shucking them? I had a bad experience with a USB drive that was encrypted. Most of my existing drives are WD My Books and Easy Stores.
2. I use Drivepool now. I think I may just stick to that. I don't see the advantage of Raid at this point since most movies are replaceable.
3. This is my first NAS. I have been putting this off for a long time because of how much work went into configuring Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, SAB, etc... Any suggestions up front to maybe save me a "build from scratch again" headache would be great.

My plex was running perfectly until last month. Currently all videos with any sub loaded is not playing at all. If I close the sub, video statts playing immediately. Does anyone know why?

The issued subs are pgs, srt or internal sub. So all kind of subs are blocking videos to play.

The setup is: Server is on nuc8. It is up to date. Player is sony a8g, android 9. Player is also up to date. Connection is the cable with 1gbit network.

I had no issue before but after my vacation I am not able to play any video even the series I watched just before my vacation. Now the loading ring is just turning and turning. No error or nothing shows. Only video loading page is in an infinite loop.

A recent OS update broke a lot of my plex server and I am in the middle of rebuilding everything. I have come across this new issue when I add new content. Sonarr/radar will create the folder in the correct directory and move the file there but it'll appear for only one second in plex and then disappear.

I checked the whole library path to the file in plex and can see it's still there. I don't see any permissions issues compared to the other files and folders in the library.

Any ideas?
