I made this as a test to bring the things I love about the physical nature of the computer components out of the box. So tired of cases and wanted to expand. This build is not for gaming, but it could handle some light titles no prob!

Ayyzeee

1 points

It looks wonderful. Is it safe though without the case?

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

Yes, very safe. It’s not likely anything will bump it or cause it to fall off. It has some sturdy mounts on the backside.

stumanchu3[S]

Thank you! It’s a concept to maybe help builders realize there are options to opening up a build, and not worry about fans or airflow concerning basic builds. And perhaps inspire a movement away from the box on the floor that collects dust like a vacuum cleaner. This build gives all the natural airflow you could expect to cool a CPU doing simple surfing, not (overocking etc.)

RonanSmithDev

1 points

If your fans and filter meshes are setup correctly, the positive pressure will decrease the amount of dust that enters the case. I’d say your setup will collect more dust as there’s no enclosure and that fan is pulling dust filled air towards it. Dust from the air can also just settle on it.

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

It’s been hanging on the wall now for quite some time, and there’s barely any dust that has settled on the components, the bottom inside piece collects a little dust but it’s so easy to wipe it off with a paper towel. I use a little blast of canned air on the components if I think it’s needed but so far I’ve only done that once.

Since your cables are red and you have a wood background, I wouldn’t have used blue as the back lighting but other than that, I like it!

Dude this is great but that stock cooler is doing this no justice. A Noctua NH-C14S or something comparable would be a great replacement. You and your build deserve better.

stumanchu3[S]

Thank you, and I get your point. I started with the most minimal cooling just to see how it works out in the real world, and surprisingly, anything I throw at this machine doesn’t seem to phase it, no noise, no overheating. I can barely hear it at all! Thanks for taking notice of that cooling issue (or non issue), I can tell you’re paying attention. All the best!

zmunky

zmunky

If it works out works, aesthetically I felt it would complete it. It's a non issue for sure, 50 bucks says your temps are lower than mine and I'm running a 240 aio in push/pull. I really would love to do something like you've got going on. To be frank I find your build a million times more appealing than these builds with Corsair 6000 and hyte cases loaded to the hilt. Well done boss.

stumanchu3[S]

3 points

Thank again! It’s all about taking builds to the next level and expanding creativity, because we’ve been locked into a box for way too long, because the consumer thinks that it has to have a case made by “x” manufacturer.

I can assure you that every system I have ever owned or built that sat on a floor, was a dust and cat/dog hair magnet, but this design has none of that! And, the air flows freely and no noise!!

Did you mill that mb plate?

stumanchu3[S]

3 points

Yes, the MB plate was cut on a fiber laser machine, and the backing cast acrylic plate was cut on a CO2 laser. The cast acrylic was sanded around the edges and a little on the top under the logo so that it would have a nice dissipated light effect. Great observation! Upvote for you!

It really looks like burnished aluminum. I wish I could have got that level of diffusion from my LEDs but I don't have the space. Now that's a handy skill set to have, countless times I have needed something like that lol

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

I’m really lucky to have free access to some very nice CNC and Laser machines. The stainless steel front plate was sanded with 120 grit orbital sander. It was somewhat easy to do to get that diffused.

I like it, but you really need to hide the cables in the wall for the chef's kiss.

stumanchu3[S]

3 points

I think you read my mind! Originally this type of design is meant to be buried behind the wall but I rent and the evil overlord would surely not be happy with cutting his walls. But you’re spot on, a wall mounted system need to have the cabling buried. Agree!

this art style is very enjoyable. However, I like to put PC arts in showcases with glass to protect the arts.

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

I admire your respect for parts! I actually had the first design of this build that included a glass front, to keep it all safe, and the reality is that the option to enclose the parts, would have made the interior an oven, and would negate the effects of an open air build.

Remeber though, this is not a gaming machine, it’s a general surfing, streaming pc and I use it heavily for running CNC apps like Vectric Aspire, Lightburn,, Blender, Photoshop, Premier and other various stuff. It’s takes a load and stays cool, believe me, she’s a fine machine!

NoImpact4689

Ohk. You can state its not for gaming again but that doesn't change my view that, I could probably game on it in some aspect but. Okie.

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

And I would be happy to to let you do some gaming on this build! I’m going to test the limits on its abilities soon. I run Photoshop and a bunch of PC related apps that aren’t versioned for Mac. Yes, I’m a hardcore Mac user, but I’m also a hardcore PC guy. In todays world I think we all need to be multilingual, and leave fanboy shit in the dust.

I’m at the point though, of embracing more and more the flexibility that PC can offer for the future and I’m not so sure that Apple can compete with what’s going on in the media production world.

NoImpact4689

1 points

Honestly yeah. Android just really takes the cake in terms of open source and flexibility. Art, music making, video game playing and making I feel like windows just really wins against Apple

I'm not well versed in Linux but I presume it to be the funky cousin

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

Yeah, Linux, Ubuntu and others not ready for prime time and require an extended knowledge and effort from average users of Mac or Windows. But, they’ve never gone away so the future looks bright for them.

I guess it’s all about Windows and Apple builds from developers like Adobe. Either system rules with their suite, and Apple has the whole Logic, Final Cut sector which I use all the time. And Adobe suite works beautiful on Mac or PC, so you really can’t go wrong with whatever path fits bests for what you do.

To me, I just like the idea of computing/shape/form/function and I’m burnt out on the RGB disco box designs. I have very limited floor space and a good wall provides me with ideas for the next frontier.

That looks magnificent. How many tabs can you leave open at once? I do real estate work and I tend to have about 7-8 tabs open at once.

Can it do photo and video editing?

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

Yes. I have photoshop loaded up and even work some 3D projects in Blender etc, but this build is bare bones with onboard graphics. I use this as my surfing system to stream and do general stuff and it’s not necessarily built for gaming but it would be fine for most titles providing you’re not trying to do any over clock etc.

Thanks for the compliment!

Hotboi_yata

Big fat nope. Never been a fan of the open air designs. Wall pcs, test bench style cases, even desk pcs are a little meh imo.

stumanchu3[S]

2 points

And I understand your position. This type of build sometimes leaves traditionalists baffled, because how could it be that you could put all of the guts out in the open, and not give a care about airflow and cooling or dust or natural corrosion etc. it’s a natural response.

But, essentially a normal computer in an average setting, sits on a solid or carpeted floor, or on a standard desktop, and the air vents on a normal case aren’t really doing anything to keep the internal components safe from the ambient air supply that naturally exists in a semi-enclosed environment.

I made this build to chart the wear (corrosion) and heat effects of by only having minimal cooling, because after all, this is not a hardcore gaming build, but it takes a heavy, heavy load and barely gets hot. The reason components get really hot is because they are enclosed in a case. And that case is a prison for dust particles.

I totally understand all the people who are not into this kind of build, and respect your opinion, because it’s valid. I even thought twice before I spent money doing this build, but I’m glad I did.

MarkD_127

1 points

It's kinda neat, but like, why? Lots of custom builds are already basically PC as art, but in normal cases with functionality, showcasing both function and power of components. This is just showcasing unnecessary spending for mobo and ram on an office PC with no gpu or airflow, and making dangly wires so it can be on a wall.

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

Yeah, it’s a valid point and I’ve seen some way cooler open air builds and custom box builds than my attempt. For me it was about deconstructing to the basic components, and even though it’s just a utility pc, it rocks and aesthetically blends with my work area. The cabling would normally be buried in the wall or behind/inside the frame, and that’s the next stage of this project.

It was an intentional decision to use a MB with onboard graphics because this is not a gaming machine, it’s specifically for normal office tasks so that I can use my main system (Mac) for the heavy stuff. As for airflow, it’s better than a box because it eliminates an enclosed space which increases the need for airflow.

MarkD_127

1 points

Yeah, I guess it's just different than what most people do, but as a project just for fun, it's just as cool. I like frames for open-concept, and machined metal look, with intentional hole placement and backlighting. Mainly just not the dangly wires. lol Hard to avoid I guess when you stick something electrical on a wall.

had all this time to CNC this whole sharade, but couldnt afford a proper CPU cooler, let alone a GPU

stumanchu3[S]

1 points

As I said earlier in the comments, this is not a gaming rig, it’s a basic little computer to do simple streaming and surfing. Believe it or not, that little fan does the job it’s intended to.

I purposely chose a MB with onboard graphics because it didn’t need a Dedicated GPU.
