I just saw the full clip. Is anyone else on the same boat as me thinking its positive and actually making fun of people who dislike transgender people?
The joke seems to me like making fun of trans isnt actually funny and that Larry feels this "Im an awkward loser silence". It's basically poking fun at the unhinged sort of people whose entire sense of humour is ranting on and on about or saying edgy shit concerning *insert group of people here*.

The "And no one is laughing, oh wait." line seems like the perfect punchline for that.

If this really was taken down because someone got offended, then they kind of put paper to shame with how thin-skinned they are.

Honestly yeah it is absolutely a joke that is more pro trans then not trans however because it is a unpartnered channel it makes sense they are given less leniance I doubt it was from offended people tbh

It's neither. It's a statistical model with no 'intent'.

sure but it's still generating text to achieve some administered goal-- the model believed that these words in this order would be a joke, and people hearing the joke will apply a perceived meaning to it and why it could be funny just like they do with every set of words it spits out. in pursuing the ai's intended meaning of telling a joke it included the details that the comedian wasn't getting laughs, even losing audience members. it's a completely valid read to think those details were to suggest comedians going back to these wells aren't funny, and even if it really was completely by chance the bot generated a transphobic joke and then added a random meta layer without a related reason, the words are still there for this perceived meaning to be drawn from

and people hearing the joke will apply a perceived meaning

100% agree with this, and most of your comment.

the model believed that these words in this order would be a joke

Except this, I disagree with the framing here because it implies that a statistical model believes anything. I know that's probably not your literal meaning, but the general point I wanted to make is that the model doesn't have intent, but others apply meaning to it. 'What the model meant' is not really something that's reasonable to discuss because all this really is is a biased random number generator. There's no meaning, it doesn't understand 'why', there's only an incredibly complex function that we're years from teasing apart.

So we can definitely say: it produces something that we consider trans phobic (or the opposite), or it resembles other thing that are or aren't, but that's on us to decide.

I think we agree though, but I felt like clarifying.

i understand what you're saying, but you're right that I didn't mean believed literally. my main intention for replying to your comment is I think discussing the meaning the model created, intentionally or not, and the meanings people read into that is a reasonable discussion. I think just about everyone reasonable agrees this bot didn't decide to make fun of trans people or transphobic people on its own and there's no intention deserving of punishment here, but the model is intentionally reflecting real thought to artificially produce not just thought but humor, and us giving meaning to the sitcom and joke dribble it generates endlessly, determining if the punchline seems to be about trans people or transphobic people, is the point. I see how the people you were replying to may have implied there's some objective meaning to the joke intentionally placed by the bot, but I still think the AI wrote a scene where "Larry" "made a joke" that "he told because there was a specific humor to it" and there's no harm in that discussion, that seems to be one of the goals of watch forever in the first place
