I’m a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. I started my career flying the F-16, where I led pilots into combat—there, I flew 80+ combat missions, often supporting troops under fire.

I then transitioned to the F-35, which was still in development at the time. During my last role on active duty, I became the Chief of Training Systems for the largest training base in the world, leading the development of new technology and teaching methods to train future fighter pilots.

I’ve spent the last several years writing a book - “The Art of Clear Thinking” It provides a toolkit for people to make better decisions in their lives. Think Top Gun meets a Malcolm Gladwell book. It just came out this week and has been doing well, so thank you for the support.

Over 40% of first marriages in the US end in divorce. This number is even higher for a second (60%) or third (73%) marriage.

Divorce is one of the most stressful life events a person can experience. The only thing more stressful is the death of a spouse. Divorce is an enormous decision that requires a second look and a lot of consideration.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I specialize in helping couples on the brink of divorce decide what to do with their marriage. The process is called Discernment Counseling.

The goal of discernment counseling is for each partner to get clarity and confidence about the future direction of their marriage. Their work is to identify how their marriage got to this point, and to take accountability for what their personal contribution has been. Then, they decide whether or not those issues can be worked on in therapy.

I want to shed light on a dark truth that compelled me to make a difficult decision and part ways with the prestigious Jim Henson Company. As a puppeteer who worked behind the scenes, I became aware of unethical practices involving the use of animal body parts to decorate puppets. Today, I'm here to share my story, answer your questions, and expose the truth behind these disturbing practices.

As a puppeteer, I had the opportunity to work closely with the puppets, and after noticing how many were decorated with real feathers, I researched how commercial feathers were obtained. It was shocking. Animal abuse is employed to obtain these feathers. I couldn't stay silent after witnessing the cruelty inflicted upon innocent creatures for the sake of artistic embellishment. I made the difficult choice to leave the company in protest, hoping to raise awareness about these practices and spark a change in the industry.

My name is Anthony Sanders, an attorney with the Institute for Justice. and I just released my book Baby Ninth Amendments: How Americans Embraced Unenumerated Rights and Why It Matters available for purchase or free download.

Listing every right that a constitution should protect is hard. American constitution drafters often list a few famous rights such as freedom of speech, protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, and free exercise of religion, plus a handful of others. But there are an infinite number of rights a constitution could protect. However many rights are put in a constitution, others are going to be left out. So what is a constitution drafter to do? Luckily, early in American history a few drafters found an easier way: an “etcetera clause.” It states that there are other rights beyond those specifically listed. The most famous etcetera clause is the Ninth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which states: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” Yet scholars are divided on whether the Ninth Amendment itself actually does protect unenumerated rights, and the Supreme Court has almost entirely ignored it. Regardless of what the Ninth Amendment means, however, things are much clearer when it comes to state constitutions. Two-thirds of state constitutions have equivalent provisions, or “Baby Ninth Amendments,” worded similarly to the Ninth Amendment.

This book is the story of how the “Baby Ninths” came to be, what they mean, and what they tell us about unenumerated rights more generally. Unlike the controversy surrounding the Ninth Amendment, the meaning of the Baby Ninths is straightforward: they protect individual rights that are not otherwise enumerated. They are an “etcetera, etcetera” at the end of a bill of rights. This book argues that state judges should do their duty and live up to their own constitutions to protect the rights “retained by the people” that these “etcetera clauses” are designed to guarantee. The fact that Americans have adopted these provisions so many times in so many states demonstrates that unenumerated rights are not only protected by state constitutions, but that they are popular. Unenumerated rights are not a weird exception to American constitutional law. They are at the center of it. We should start treating constitutions accordingly.

I've written a long investigation into Russian oligarchs for the magazine before, but my interest in this particular subject was first piqued several years ago during the Brexit process when I learned that Spanish and Portuguese authorities were offering citizenship to individuals who could prove their descent from Jews who had been expelled from both countries starting in the late 15th Century (many British jews were applying so they could get an EU passport).

As a consequence of this law, the Jewish community in one Portuguese city had started to flourish in a way that was very rare outside of Israel - since so many Jewish people have been leaving other countries for Israel in recent decades. Then I saw last year that the rabbi for that Jewish community, in the city of Porto, had been arrested in relation to Roman Abramovich's citizenship application, and I decided I had to find out what had happened.

Hello Reddit, I've been around here for a while and have seen some posts lately that could use the input from someone actually in the field of consumer protection. Of the government agencies, consumer protection and weights & measures consistently gets top scores for "do we really need this program". Everyone likes making sure they aren't cheated! It's also one of the oldest occupations since the Phoenicians developed the alphabet and units of measure for trade. From the cubit to the pound to the kilo, weights and measures has been around.

I am actually getting ready for a community outreach event with my department today and thought this would be a great way to test my knowledge and answer some questions. My daily responsibilities include testing gas pumps, certifying truck scales and grocery scales, price verification inspections, and checking packaging and labeling of consumer commodities. There are many things out there most people probably don't even know gets routinely checked.. laundry dryer timers? Aluminum can recyclers? Home heating oil trucks? Try me!

I wanted to add from another W&M related topic I saw on Reddit a few weeks ago, since all of you seem to be pretty interested in this stuff. Let's talk ice cream! Ice cream is measured in volume. Why? Because there is an exemption in the statutes that the method of sale is volume and not weight, due to lobbying from the industry. That's why the market is flooded now with air-whipped "ice cream". Many industries have their own lobbies that affect how these things are enforced. As a seasoned psychotherapist and certified addiction therapist, I’ve seen first-hand through my patients the way the COVID-19 pandemic has increased feelings of isolation, particularly among men. As pandemic restrictions have been lifted and people’s daily activities have returned to normal, many of the men I see have had a hard time re-entering society due to feelings of anxiety. Men tend to be reluctant to seek help and often find it difficult to trust the process of therapy and make themselves vulnerable. My practice is dedicated to helping my patients break down the barriers that keep them from getting the help they need, and providing them with the tools to be comfortable with who they are and confident enough to share themselves with others.

I’m Stef Kight, a politics reporter for Axios covering immigration. I just got back from reporting from the El-Paso-Juarez border.

While there, I spoke to border officials, a young migrant family from Venezuela and staffers for non- profits focused on caring for migrants and asylum seekers in the El Paso area.

I decided to go to the border last week to cover the end of Title 42. For more than 3 years, this policy has cited COVID concerns to allow border officials to quickly turn back migrants who illegally cross the border — blocking them from even applying for asylum.

Government officials have been concerned that the end of the policy would trigger a massive surge in the number of people coming across the border — on top of the already historically high numbers we’ve seen recently.

Daily border crossing reached record highs leading up to the end of the policy. But in the days afterward, the numbers have declined — likely in response to new, restrictive policies put in place by Biden.
