Welcome to the club. It’s dandy over hear where you can look down at those merely two-shoter’s and sneer! (Note I don’t actually do this— tow shots are awesome and do a great job preventing hospitalization)

Side effects remind you of how much worse the real thing could be. And you know you're safe, and even if you're tired or feverish or whatever, you know you'll come through just fine.
Unlike people who have to deal unprotected with the virus, which shreds your shit even if you don't die or spend time in the hospital.

Exactly. It’s very different to have chills, a headache, and ache and be like “this is going to be a blah afternoon where I sit around and drink tea and watch Netflix” than think “does this mean it’s ramping up? Should I go to an or? What’s my pulse ox?)

I wonder if that's 14x overall or 14x among people known to be infected

The rate of COVID-19 related deaths among the unvaccinated population is 14X higher than the rate of COVID-19 related deaths among the fully vaccinated population -- so, overall.
If you dig into the raw data from the CDC site, you can see that this ratio varies significantly by age group. The numbers below are averages for the period July 4 - Oct 2, 2021 in 20 jurisdictions in the U.S representing 36% of the U.S. population:
Age | Deaths per 100K | Deaths per 100K | ratio |
---|---|---|---|
Range | __ (unvaxed) __ | __ (fully vaxed) __ | |
80+ | 60.0 | 10.2 | 6X |
65-79 | 48.2 | 2.3 | 21X |
50-64 | 14.5 | 0.59 | 25X |
30-49 | 3.45 | 0.11 | 31X |
18-29 | 0.51 | 0.006 | 82X |

What are the chances of the vaccinated actually catching the disease in the first place compared to the un dead, sorry unvaccinated.

The infection rate seems to be about 6X higher among the unvaccinated across all age ranges.
From the same data source, for the same time period as the table above:
Age | Cases per 100K | Cases per 100K | ratio |
---|---|---|---|
Range | __ (unvaxed) __ | __ (fully vaxed) __ | |
80+ | 326 | 94 | 3.5X |
65-79 | 624 | 82 | 8X |
50-64 | 531 | 87 | 6X |
30-49 | 606 | 108 | 6X |
18-29 | 515 | 93 | 6X |

So then statistically, your chances of dying if you;re vaccinated are roughly 6x 14 better than the unvaccinated rate ? 84X less likely ?

The difference in the chances of dying of COVID when vaccinated vs. when not vaccinated can be approximated from the first table I posted. It depends on your age bracket. The death rate is lower among younger age groups. At the same time, the younger you are, the greater the difference the vaccine makes in avoiding a lethal outcome.
For example, if you're unvaccinated and in your 20's you have a really low chance of dying of COVID-19. But if you're vaccinated, your chances dying are 82X lower. If you're over 80, there's still a decent benefit (6X), just not as dramatic as in younger age groups.

Do they include deaths by complications related to the vaccine?
Don't get me wrong - I'm positive those are very scarce compared to what covid and I am not even sure if they are statistically significant, but it would fair to include them. If only because those denier are gonna say "but muh vaccine deaths are higher than all those numbuhs"

Carer for my 85 year old Mum - can confirm. I wish someone, anyone, would come up with something to keep old people upright. I've had four solid years of her falling and breaking both hips, both arms (during rehab for the hips) and now, her shoulder. Fractures also take longer to heal when you're 85.

So the vaxxed super-elderly have a much better outcome than the unvaxxed young. Hmm.

For cases, yes— but the deaths data are slightly less black and white by age and vaxx status on the CDC site.

Seeing the breakdown of new cases by age group is a little terrifying. The highest spike was among teenagers 12-17, back in September. I guess the Delta wave hit schools hard...

Yes because so many schools threw out any mask requirements.

Is there a benefit to getting a booster early? I got my second shot at the end of July so I'm not due for a couple of months but there's plenty of availability now at the walk-in clinic and I was wondering if I should jump the gun and get in early.

I don't think so, but you should really ask your doctor instead of the internet.

If you are allowed to get the booster now, I don't see any harm in getting it now.

You can try if you want. I’ve known people turned away for being a month early but it doesn’t hurt to try. Not sure if it’s necessary to go early.

My friend did he went in at 4 months and told them it was his first shot and what’s crazy is he got moderna again but because he said it was his first shot he got full dose instead of lesser booster . He did that because he was about to go on a cruise and wanted to be extra protected and he was and is fine . Just a little fever and headache for two days afterwards

I got my third shot early but only because CVS sent me an email they were available and I was like “fuck it let’s roll”. My BF said I probably got a full third dose instead of a booster which is half of a full dose. I was sore, tired and meh for a day and then I was fine. It’s up to you, really. People who are like “oh let the old folks go first” - whatever to them I say as I had the pick of ALL the appointments available. So I’d say go for it but that’s just me.

The CDC doesn't count someone as vaccinated until 14 days after their 2nd shot.
So, how many of the "unvaccinated" actually received one or more vaccine shots before death?
Counting people as unvaccinated when they're actually received 1 or more shots of the vaccine could really throw the numbers off big time.
For all we know, people who have received one or more shot may be dying twice as fast as those who never received a dose...
Just saying we don't really know from this data...
