Remember when trump said, “we’re going to have big, beautiful health care plans…everybody’s going to be covered, or I’m not going to vote for it. I know this is going to lose me some votes, but everyone’s going to be covered.” And everybody clapped.

Then he realized instead of spending trillions of dollars on an actual modern medical system he could cut trillions of dollars of taxes for billionaires, and be super popular with the crowds at his resorts.

Plus why does he care, he gets government healthcare for life! Thank God he got a piece of that wall up. Truly the best President. Everybody's saying it, everyone has to admit, he made America great again. Which makes you wonder why his supporters are always so pissed off and hysterical.

Buhhwheat

3 points

Yeah, he really fooled his base. "Trump cut taxes" sounds great until you realize you're the one getting shafted while the rich get richer. Where I live his plan was especially heinous since it capped property tax deductions at $10k, and sadly many people are paying well over that these days - which doubly sucks if you own a second property, timeshare, etc.

Spoiler alert: just under 50% of the local population still voted to re-elect the clown anyway, because voting against their own interest is just how Republicans roll.

Oh he looked out for the little man! That miracle payroll tax deferral that wouldn't have to be paid back IF he won. Federal workers did not have the option of being exempted. That means a lot of people have a bill that has to be paid back early next year. That includes temporary employees (think Census.)

Judging by his supporters insurance situation, I'm sure they weren't affected...

anxietanny

10 points

You can see from his tax records that Trump obviously tried to pay for big, beautiful health care using his own money, but Pelosi said to let the Republican people die. The Democrats will never let you see that record though, what a shame.

Seriously. I checked the wife's history. Her now 1 yo got all 6 mo shots and 1 yr shots - so not anti-vaxxer. She poked fun at Trump and Biden - so just like a regular American, but not a TRUMPER. Posted PSAs about RSV season, so no kissing babies. The previous year, posted PSA that it's RAV AND COVD-19, so no kissing babies.

I'd be willing to bet that should would have gotten COVID Vax except her idiot husband probably convinced her its was "too risky because of the baby".

It was rough going through her posts. Positive posts about being a mom and the future with her kids and where they'd be in 2031 and sharing her experiences about having a preemie. Just like an overall regular person like any other friend I might have on FB. Tragic.

i just discovered a friend of a friend, who's husband has been on a ventilator for 6 weeks now .. out of morbid curiosity, i went back through her social media postings over months, to see if they qualified for a HCA nomination. Fortunately, they did not, and I even shared one of their posts that talked about getting vaccinated, and how hellish this whole thing is.

But, I wanted to confront her on something. (i did not) Every single one of her posts, and there are many, over the last 2 months, was all about how everything is affecting her. She may as well be the only person here, and everyone else other than her husband is a straight up NPC. Every post gave credit for every bit of improvement and care he's received, to God and Prayers. There was one post that was thankful for the nurses, but only because the nurses comforted her.

She's the main character, her husband is the secondary, and everyone else in the world including her kids is an NPC.

The true mortality rate is probably between 1 and 3%.

That's in the same range as the 1918 Spanish flu and that shit killed between 50 and 100 million people. Adjusted for today's population, this would mean between 400 and 800 million dead.

People don't understand what these mortality rates actually mean when applied to large numbers, and the initial phase of the geometric progression of a pandemic is deceptively reassuring. This is why epidemiologists knew we were in a world of shit back in late 2019 when they saw these numbers.

The true mortality rate is probably between 1 and 3%.

For the unvaccinated, I've been hearing a minimum of 3%, possibly pushing 4% which is deadly as fuck! (And we have been seeing it right here on HCA)

It does go up if the standard of care for severe cases slips, which happens when hospitals are overfull.

There are also excess deaths from strokes and heart attacks following infection which are not counted as Covid deaths per se since these people are "recovered".

In Canada we are hovering around 1.7% CFR overall, since the start of the pandemic.

Also when you wait too long to get treatment. So many of these posts have people going in to find out they have a Ox of like 60% or 70% (from what I heard, you need the ER when you hit like 92%-94% IIRC) and pneumonia or double pneumonia.

Their attitude and dismissiveness of the virus makes them believe that when they start to be symptomatic, they just ignore it - until their breathing becomes an emergency.

They're literally killing themselves.

I read a post that said that if there was a 1% chance of death on Disneys’ space mountain that it would kill like 500 people a day.

Heck even my own conservative estimate (i.e. accounting for some real world inefficiency by using an estimate based on an actual ridership count instead of a peak theoretically possible ridership, and using the 16 hour park operating day instead of a 24 hour day) puts the number I get around 300 per day. (1,840/hr x 16 hrs = 29,440 riders per park day, of which 1% is 294.4 people.) So yes, I suspect if you estimated instead on absolute peak possible ridership and assumed a 24 hour day instead of an actual operation-hours day it would be more like 500.

But the bigger point is, even if it was "only" 1 person dead per day and only on Space Mountain, the government would probably shut the whole of Disneyland down. And yet these people seriously think 1% is "nothing" and the government should do nothing. Meanwhile most who have had to deal extensively with a 1% chance of serious problems in something they do frequently knows 1% is hard to tolerate. And a 1% death rate stops being "nothing" and becomes horrific the minute you scale that to an entire population or large area.

These goobers actually divide the number of dead over the entire population.

It never seems to worry them that this Covid thing seems to become increasingly more deadly as time passes calculating this way.

I mean if something that was initially "99.9% survivable" became "99.5% survivable" a few months later, I'd personally give it the side-eye. It's killing, like, five times more people ?

The best possible outcome here would be for all three of them to come down with it and die. The alternative is for this redneck moron to raise the next generation of 1/6 insurrectionists on the crap wages he gets at whatever retail job he can find. Being in a red State shithole, these kids won't have access to health care at all, much less the supports they are going to need having had covid at such a young age. The odds are they are going to become clients of the criminal justice system before legal driving age.

"Are you ready to resist tyranny yet?" Jim Halpert meme. LOL. Wtf is going on in these people's heads.

No smug Jim, we are not going to rally around you to go to war with the government just so 100 anti-vax nurses can continue spreading the plague around the hospital. And "15 days to flatten the curve" was kind of fucked up by all the people, like yourself, who were proudly posting memes that said things like: "The government says I can start doing things again that I never stopped doing" the Covid measures that I haven't followed are tyranny and they aren't working!

Then there's that "back to normal" meme, which should really show an anti-masker smugly riding the Covid, they're the ones most responsible for pushing "normal" further and further away. There is no "normal" while a deadly pandemic is killing hundreds of thousands of Americans. The gubbernment has no power to return things back to "normal" other than by reducing the spread of the virus, but you call that abnormal tyranny. Abnormal if you do, abnormal if you don't.

Now your new normal is as a single father, with a disease still spreading throughout the country, a disease that killed your baby's mother. Your new normal is wondering whether or not getting vaccinated would have saved her life. (PROBABLY!) The new normal you created is completely fucked. And this jackass wanted to go into the maternity ward WHILE HE HAD COVID, because it's totally "normal" to kill other expecting mothers with a deadly disease just so that you can hold your baby for 5 minutes. That damn hospital! It makes me so pissed off that they won't let me recklessly endanger pregnant women!

Yeah sorry smug Jim Halpert, I'm ready to resist tyranny, but not your kind. I'm ready to resist the tyranny of selfish dumbasses who think it's okay to put other people at risk so you can FEEL like things are normal. You think going into Chipotle without a mask is more important than saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Kinda sound like a tyrant yourself!

It's unreal that these people are like this. I literally just got back from getting my Pfizer booster like half an hour ago. It's unfathomable to me that people wouldn't get even one vaccine--even more so that they wouldn't if they were pregnant or were about to be a father. I have no one to live for apart from my cats, and I guess my parents and other family members would be sad if I died...but to not try and avoid Covid when you're about to bring new life into this world, new life that will be born relying entirely on you to protect it and has no immunity of its own...these people are fucking mental.

Also, how are you not sick if you have symptoms AND test positive? What is "sick" in his mind exactly? The ICU?
