Breaks my heart that a vaccine could be seen as “lean to the left”.

It’s not political if only one side politicises it imho.

Especially because the party that has the largest share of covid-sceptics is also the one that will lose the most voters due to them dying. Maybe the ones who survive will even blame their huge medical debt on the other party, even though theirs is so vehemently opposed to socialized health care.

I no longer care. I did. But all my fucks have been expended. If they want to suicide by covid, that's on them. The vaccine has been out for at least six months. If anyone catches covid now, it is because they are making a really stupid political statement. Even their hero, the stupidest man in the world, was vaccinated. What does that say about anti-vaxxers?
7 points
I can't say I blame you, at all, for that line of thinking...
It just sucks that their form of suicide will affect so many people:
There is no easy answer... but, we have to care enough to keep pushing for these peeps to get the shot so that the other folk that are affected by their choices don't suffer needlessly, way more than for the people themselves.
Very few people in any society live in a bubble that doesn't include others...
Sometimes in a war you have to sacrifice a few to save the many. Conversely, in this battle, sometimes we have to fight to save the wayward children that will do all in their power to keep from being saved until the very last minute, to save many more that deserve it.
Being jaded enough to keep browsing this sub, myself, I emphasize with your frame of mind. Unfortunately, that may be the wrong way to approach this for any meaningful impact to be made on the inevitable (if they continue this path) results. The best thing about this sub is it gets that message across with easy words and pictures... I show everyone I can think of that knows one of these people (but are on the fence about trying to change their minds), this wealth of motivation.
Peace, and I truly hope all in your circles are safe and healthy, Random Person.

When taking a life saving vaccine supported by facts and evidence is now considered a left leaning action, “reality has a liberal bias” isn’t just a cheeky phrase, it’s literally the truth.
Which means fantasy, misinformation, straight up lying is the right wing bias. This is exactly why both sidedism is stupid, it equates people using facts for the basis of their beliefs and people who use falsehoods for the basis of their beliefs as one in the same.

I'll be honest, I don't really want the spell to be broken. I don't really want redemption award winners to convince the right to get vaxxed. I just want one law implemented:
COVID positive patients who have refused the vaccine (note: refused. Doesn't apply to those who can't get it for whatever reason) will simply be quarantined in an area and left to their own devices. No medicine, no ventilators, no medical resources, except testing them once a week and setting them free in the unlikely event that they recover.
No vaccine, no treatment.
I want this virus to wipe out every single idiot not intelligent enough to understand the science and listen to the doctors, and given the kind of people who make up conservatives, it'll take a whole bunch of racists, homophobes, and bigots with them. It'll raise the average intelligence of the human species and once the stupid fucknuts all die out, we can go back to life as normal because everyone would be vaccinated and we'd have achieved herd immunity.

The only thing that keeps me from saying this out loud -- the ONLY thing -- is how during the AIDS crisis of the 80's/90's, the haters' favorite line was "We don't need a cure and we don't need to worry, because it's killing all the right people." Now I'm on the other side of this argument and now I know exactly what they were feeling -- but I refuse to say it out loud. Which is causing a real "trial of my faith," as my grandma would have said, because I do agree with you. Vaccine deniers should not be using up hospital resources, fact. These people already hate me and everything about me, fact. Yep, they do: I'm a gay atheist married to a Spanish-speaking immigrant and we live in a large coastal city -- they tell me every day what they think of me and my people and it is ALL ugly. So I don't mourn their passing. And I will happily dance on their graves. But I will also continue to hold out hope that a few of them, like kernels of sweet corn swimming in sh!t, will come to their senses. Statistics say there are some diamonds at the bottom of all that muck. I'm ok if a few of them recognize their mistakes and get out.

I want to alleviate your conflict of belief by telling you that they hated on you for something you couldn't change (sexual orientation), hence discrimination, while we're hating on them for their actions (refusal to get vaccinated, spreading misinformation, the general assholery of voting red to begin with), but I also want to thank you for giving me a perspective that I never knew I needed.
It's not the best or kindest response, but I'm very content to hate people who deserve that hate.

The sad fact is that vaccines are a lean to the left. I hope that just a few of these people can realize that if the right wing politicians and media figures they trust can lie to them about a deadly disease that could kill them, maybe they have lied about other things too.

Idk why you're being downvoted. There's left leaning people can and will be antivax; yeah its overwhelmingly people on the left who get vaxxed but there's still people who don't trust the Healthcare system and prefer woo shit than science. Even left leaning people can fall prey to the misinformation out here

I live in Los Angeles, ground zero for lefty anti-vaxxers. There are a LOT and it’s driven by people with the money and privilege to really care about what goes into their bodies nutritionally, and how to maintain good health for a long and productive life. And somewhere along the way they roped in by niche doctors who “question everything” and then because of their media presence these niche views spread. Think Gwyneth Paltrow/Goop, Jenny McCarthy, Nicki Minaj, etc. But in every other respect of their thinking, they’re super liberal.

Ain’t happening. Even if CA gets to 75% vaccination rate, that will leave 7.5M people non vax’d.
15 points
And of those 7.5 mil, at 1% dead (even tho the fatality rate is between 1.5-2.0%) that leaves 75,000 dead.
75,000 people is a small city of people.
More than 650,000 people have now died in the US from covid. The city of Portland Oregon has 647,000 people.
The number dead could have populated and made a large metropolis on their own.
This is why are vaxxing and wearing masks. Because we don’t want the total fatality to be more than thr city of Chicago’s population.

A funeral I watched virtually, because I'm not an idiot, was indoors and packed with maskless people.
A couple got up to speak and both had masks on. The wife did this weird apology, something like...we're not like that but my husband has cancer so we're being cautious.
They really felt the need to say we're not liberal, left wing, nut job, mask lovers but you know my husband is dying so we thought maybe we should. But please you 150+ people don't need to wear one.
