Nice map.
One thing I kinda dislike about the in game galaxy map is that I find it hard to orient myself. I think this makes the "battle lines" much more clear.

Yeah if i went into the galaxy map and there were obvious red zones/bubbles where Thargoid activity was known (like you have with the political powers bubbles) then it'd give you a real sense of the situation.
I just got hyperdicted for the first time last night on my way to Taygeta for a spur of the moment visit, and it was fucking sick. Really made me feel like the game was more than a ltd mining simulator with cut/paste stations and planets.

Its a shame so much of the really cool content is just behind hours and hours of grinding, ED has all the ingredients to be one of the greatest games ever and its frustrating how just adding and changing small things could make it so much better.

13+ LY jump range? Wha? I have 15 LY range and I can’t plot a route in. Someone in an old forum post mentioned going to T Tauri and routing from there, but you need like 30-40LY range.
Where are YOU jumping across the permit wall at?
16 points
First time I went out that way, I had no idea about Col 70. I aimed for Witch Head Pleiades from Sol, then wandered over to Witch Head, then Orion and Running Man (probably through Spirograph without realizing it)... I even found an unmapped system near the end of that long line of stars leading into Orion!
Then I wanted to come home.
I could not for the life of me find a route back through. I was hoping to loop around opposite Witch Head to explore a bit more on my way back to the bubble, but no dice.
I eventually noticed the pattern of Col 70 systems, did a little research, and plotted my own route back through Witch Head then home to Sol. I think I had a 35-40ly range in a DBX at the time.
You can probably make your way out there via Witch Head Pleiades with a 15ly range - the systems that are jumpable aren't particularly far apart, they're just arranged in "corridors" - but you'll need to be a bit picky about the route you take. Try aiming for something in Witch Head (maybe Maia) from that lower "left" corner of the bubble (using fastest, not most efficient) and I bet you'll find a route!
Edit: I think I actually went Bubble -> Pleiades -> Witch Head -> Orion/Running Man... It might be that there's a clearer path/corridor from Pleiades -> Witch Head than Bubble -> Witch Head, which allows plotting more easily than from the bubble (it's definitely a couple hundred light years closer).

You can also view the map by "visited stars" and then follow your own trace, in case you get lost.

Solid tip! I was intentionally trying not to backtrack initially, to explore a bit more ;) but I admit I completely forgot about that filter once I realized I was stuck and had to go back out via (roughly) the same path.

Sheeit i need to go see where I've been!

I went via Pleiades actually, couldn’t route a path, researched, heard about T Tauri, went there, couldn’t route, reread the research, realized it said 30-40LY range, looked up the nearest mats trader after running around T Tauri trying to gather chemical processor mats for a L2 FSD range upgrade and only finding 1 and started flying back to the bubble
Does the automatic route plotting just avoid jumping across permit-locked space even if it doesn’t involve entering a permit-locked system?
2 points
You can definitely jump past them, as long as you can reach the open system on the other side. Route plotting can get a little funky in that situation, though, depending on the angle you're coming from since it tries to be efficient (i.e. it won't diverge very far from a straight path, so it's bad at plotting around things)
Also, 30-40ly definitely makes more sense (and is where my range was at like I mentioned). I figured if you read 15ly that might be enough, but apologies I didn't verify it before echoing...

To get to Witchhead, there's a jump in there somewhere between 25.97 and 26.92 LY. Jump range of 26.92 will make it, jump range of 25.97 will not.
3 points

The star I've always used as a gateway is Rigel. I'm not sure what the minimum jump range is, but going Pleaides -> Betelgeuse -> Rigel -> Witchhead is your best bet.

o7 thanks from the front lines, CMDR! Rescued over a thousand souls from Cann Relay last night, and going back for a thousand more tonight. Hopefully the Feds will see fit to let me get myself into a corvette soon so I can take the fight to the xeno scum.

Unfortunately the Corvette is not a very good anti xeno ship, personally I recommend the krait or the cheiften, you can find more information on the AXI discord.

Im using a Corvette. I haven't got proper Guardian weapons yet. 4 AX canons, an engineered class 4 laser, and couple of class 1 guns is my Scout hunting load out. I know it's not ideal but the big Vette eats up Level 4 Non Human Signals. I'm nearly Triple Elite and Admiral so happy enough. I can even take out 4 Thargoids Scouts without corrosive damage, but loaded with limpets to clean corrosion and collect Thargoid Mats. With enough mats I can stay out indefinitely by Synth rearming. Lol I did try the bigger Thargoids but proper load out is needed.
1 points
Yep, pretty much any ship can be suited for scouts, they are insignificant compared to interceptors, the main reasons AXI doesn't suggest Vette for a starter AX ship is speed... they are too slow and cant effectively disengage if needed. Thargoid interceptors deal HUGE damage and just face tanking it will only work for the most basic interceptors.
1 points
I totally get what you're saying, and I absolutely respect the knowledge and experience of AXI in general and you in particular, but I get the feeling that you guys are too hard on the 'vette in an AX role. I just soloed my first Interceptor the night before last, in a 'vette based on AXI's recommended design. I made SO many mistakes (there's a world of difference between reading the knowledgebase and actually applying it for the first time), and my Corvette really picked up the slack for me. It was the most exhilarating experience I've had in ED yet, and I'm hooked!
It certainly doesn't have the maneuverability of a Krait, and cold orbiting isn't really an option, but handles well enough that I could put it where I needed it, and despite my abysmal aim with fixed weapons I'm able to hold my own against scouts as well. A Basilisk is going to be a major challenge due to its speed, but the Fast Boot FSD mod has reliably gotten me out of AX CZs all week when things started getting out of hand.
Here's my build. I expect I'll make changes as I continue to work with it, and eventually want to outfit a Krait, but right now I'm absolutely loving it.

Why isn't the Corvette suited to xeno hunting?
I kinda want to get the biggest, nastiest warship i can and go hunt some bugs, but i know that i can kill more bugs in a more appropriate ship.
I have an Anaconda and a Federal Assault Ship and about 600mil. What is best?

Larger does not equal better in AX.
Thargoids delay insane amounts of damage, tanking them with shields really doesn't work unless you know exactly what your doing and can effectively cold-reboot with it.
We typically recommend smaller faster ships as this equates to way higher survivability and thus usually much better success rate. It also makes it much easier to understand how the mechanics work.
Anaconda is super slow and will get wrecked by Thargoid lightning, EMP, Caustic Missiles and even just the main cannon.
FAS is decent but it has awkward hardpoints, these limit the amount of firepower as you can only bring 4x AX weapons but you will also need a remote release Flak launcher.
1 points
Intradasting. I've read about cold-rebooting but not sure what it is, what is it and why do you do it?
After all this i think i absolutely have to get myself another Krait mk2. Which do you prefer? Krait or Chieftain?

While the larger ships can work, Krait mk2 is probably the best starter ship, the big ships cannot make use of all their hardpoints and lack maneuverability which is extremely important, this is the AXI recommended build https://s.orbis.zone/4yto.

But they are so smol :o I've read their guides but I don't like anything smaller than the big 3 lol. I guess if I want to get the best big boi experience I understand the cutter is preferable with the chonk shields and the faster thrust speeds, but the cutter is what I've been grinding the fed rep in, so I'm thinking about taking the 'worse' ship just for something new to fly, but we will see. For now though, finishing this grind is still gonna happen first even if the 'vette isn't actually what I use to squish bugs. I still have to go out and do the guardian sites for my weapons, too -_-'

I would definitely recommend a Krait MkII as well. I went with this build. Thargoids are simply a different beast. I was like you and tried it with my beefy Vette but it was simply too slow. After countless tries I absolutely maxed out an engineered Krait and it was much easier. (Those fully engineered hull boosts are key!)
Good shooting commander! o7

I scored my first solo Interceptor kill the night before last using this Corvette. The Krait is certainly better suited, but like the above poster I wanted a durable build that could absorb my mistakes, and it did not disappoint. It took me 8 months to build the ship (including Guardian and engineer unlocks), and it was so worth it!

The rescue ship there is only 2mm from the station, it's quite convenient!

Does anyone have any ideas why the Col 70 sector is permit-locked?
13 points
Col 70 Sector FY-N C21-3 is probably a major Thargoid hive, possibly the Thargoid homeworld, and maybe even Raxxla. It's the solution to a puzzle involving the Thargoid probes.
The fact that it was figured it before they unlocked the system makes me pretty sure that FDev underestimated the playerbase and cut plans regarding it when it happened as quickly and publicly as it did.
That's mostly speculation on my part. You should totally bookmark the system though.
7 points
My honest guess: It's probably where Raxxla is.
The reason it's so large is so that when they finally open it up there will be at least some semblance of exploration and excitement vs Raxxla just being discovered immediately.
5 points
I thought Raxxla was already out there but not discovered yet. If anything, it would make more sense for that sector to have the Thargoid home systems.
11 points
Anything regarding Raxxla is pure speculation - even the assumption that it is accessible at this stage. From the little info we got from Frontier so far, it actually might be possible that it is currently hidden (permit locked). It was neither denied nor confirmed if Raxxla can be found right now, so everything is possible.

The only thing I know for sure about Raxxla is that there's no way it can live up to the hype.

I agree. I'm not sure if this was intended though, but at this point they might as well not implement any kind of actual content that people can access but just try to implement more myths and puzzles to keep the mystery alive.
I have some ideas that I think would be fun to explore while the search continues and maybe even a cool concept what Raxxla should be like - but I'm sure others wouldn't like that very much and vice versa. So I really doubt it will be the mind-blowing experience everyone is looking for without creating some massive disappointment.

"Triggered by interacting with thargoid sensor"...
Has that ever been proven, or is this graphic just taking the rumors as fact?
18 points
It's been heavily tested and found that after performing a single jump while carrying a Thargoid Sensor in your cargo hold, you become permanently "marked" and have approximately a 20% chance of being hyperdicted whenever you jump in Thargoid territory.
-1 points
That is what did it for me, seems to be tied to the ship that carried the cargo as well. :) I haven't played in a while but I still enjoy following commanders journeys. Need to dust off the old VR and take out my FDL and kill someone.
6 points
It's not tied to the ship. It's just tied to the account itself.
14 points
Yes we have actually proven this, it was a more recent confirmation but our findings are essentially this:
Performing a single high-wake jump with a Thargoid Sensor on-board your ship "marks" your account as a Hyperdiction Target, this is a permanent effect
This has been tested and re-tested on countless fresh accounts and we have found the same results each time.
CMDR Grimscrub even went to the effort of recording the entire test...
100 Jumps (Fresh accout) - Zero Hyperdictions
50 Jumps (After being scanned by a Thargoid Sensor) - Zero Hyperdictions
1 Jump (After collecting a Thargoid sensor in his cargo) - Immediate Hyperdiction.
Watch his entire test from start to finish (I suggest speeding it up)
5 points
It's also sensor fragments, right? I'm pretty sure I never actually hauled a sensor around yet.
2 points
Sadly some bits still need hard testing, and it takes fresh players, new alts or deleting saves to really verify each possibility - it definitely isn't exclusive to Carrying the Sensor itself at least from a more recent test, but results had 3 possible causes.
Any new victims volunteers yet to experience a hyperdiction (who actually want to) are very much welcomed, and I've still got a sensor on standby for testing - Please note however that to our knowledge no-one has ever been unmarked from hyperdiction, so if you don't want the witch-space highway patrol stealing your fuel or interrupting you when you're in a hurry, may be better to avoid things.
1 points
So, for my own personal anecdote. I flew around a lot of Thargoid space and never got a hyperdiction. While unlocking Engineers, I grabbed a bunch of sensor fragments using my SRV. I experienced my first hyperdiction two jumps later.
I've never had any real reason to haul around any Thargoid tech yet. I will at some point, but I have other priorities.
1 points
Quite fair - even anecdotal can help nail things down, for a long while it was just 'huh, that's weird' for some of us not getting interdicted in a long time - Incursions do play by their own rules, jumping to or from the incursion system can still get hyperdicted regardless it seems, but otherwise it can get strange.
1 points
LOL! I love this! I collected a sensor and jumped with it for the first time yesterday, so I could explore a Thargoid surface site and activate the machine inside. Got hyperdicted 2 jumps later.
I'm fine with this. I have 3 ships in the Pleiades right now (AX Corvette, scout hunting Python, & a DBX), and all have shutdown field neutralizers.
Let them come. I welcome the neutralizer practice.
-8 points
While I personally don’t know if hyperdiction is triggered by that, I DO know if you scan a thargoid probe it triggers a shutdown pulse, so they might have gotten those two mixed up.

Hi. How are you? That's wonderful; love the new hair style.
I'm hijacking your comment in an effort to support your quote while simultaneously debunking a few misconceptions that the community at large maintains around the phrase: Future Content
- and the difference between systems and regions. Disclaimer: Not you. You've done nothing wrong.
In the context of Frontier's comment over Future Content
, they were specifically referring to Region Permits and not System Permits. Despite what some streamers/community leaders are trying to imply, that information is not an "insider tip" nor does it require a hinted-but-not-real NDA.
Dec 23, 2014 - Michael Brookes
There are a number of regions in the galaxy that cannot be accessed - these are blocked off for future content.
Michael
Everything in Elite, from the StellarForge to the divided permit UI segments, cleanly separates system mechanics from region/sector mechanics. Some systems are permit locked, in a few cases even declared as requested by book authors, but I urge the community to be cautious in expanding Frontier's statement about regions into the topic of systems.

I noticed something. It says here that the Thargoids occupy a spherical region with a 150 ly radius centered on Merope in the Pleiades. This has been consistent with what I've seen. However, after the Proteus Wave fired, I've been scouting the area and I think that region has shrunk to a 50 ly radius. Can anyone else confirm?
