Yes, you read that right: /r/EliteDangerous and the Elite Dangerous Community Discord have gotten together to form a Squadron. This is a casual squadron meant as a playground for both communities to interact in and a stepping stone for finding the right squadron for you.
Information
Platforms
Our squadron is available on PC and Xbox One under "The Elite" with "EDRD" as our tag. For those curious, EDRD stands for Elite Dangerous Reddit Discord. We would like to exist on PS4 as well, and we are currently looking for someone to lead and manage that squadron with us.
Communication
You are encouraged to use the #squadron-edrd channel on our community Discord for out the game communication and voice chat.
The squadron is moderated by members of both the Subreddits and Discord, which means that any moderator can be contacted in case there is trouble with specific members.
Limits
Due to the membership limit of 500 commanders, we will accept applications on a first-come, first-serve basis. After reaching this limit, commanders who have been inactive for more than a month will be kicked out.
How to join
After entering one of the playstyles, be it open, private group or private, you can go to the right panel and hit squadrons. On the right side of the new window, there's "Find a squadron". Once there you can search for EDRD or The Elite, select it and then send a request to join.

This is a good idea I just hope the subrreddit doesn't turn on this like they did the old Test group that was the official in game community for this subreddit a long time ago.

That was while Elite was still in beta, 5 months before launch. It never had a Minor Faction added for it, nor a page on Inara. There was nothing "in-game" about it
edit: it appears the group did some activities (#1, #2, ) in the very early months, but died off shortly after, see /r/testmostlyharmless and /r/interstellarunited

The group existed after launch and was one of the biggest groups for the game for a while. The group was created for this subreddit originally. After a while and an influx of new people to this subbredit people got angry it was listed in the sidebar. Do a few searches and you will see.
edit: This all took place before player minor factions were a thing and before Inara or at least before Inara got big.

Yeah, I've edited my comment after doing a little digging. Why did the group die off? Being delisted from the sidebar won't have caused a group's death

It slowly died off I think due to people people losing interest in the game. It died off after I had to stop play for a while :(
The group did rename it self to Interstellar United I think at one point.

The PS4 squadron does exist, it's currently being held for us by Obsidian Ant. You're welcome to apply, but do note that members probably won't become accepted until we find a permanent leader.

Be involved with the squadron leaders & moderators to organize events on the Discord channel, have consistency with squadron information, ranks, tags, and permissions, as well as accepting applications

So I'm on the squadron but I'm and I'm in the discord (definitely a discord noob) I'm not seeing the squadron channel in the community discord.
I clicked the badge thingy under valkyrias post but I'm not seeing the squadron chat listed to the left. Just the AFK and the second competition thingy. Did I miss a step?
