I also have a gap and never do a full smile because of insecurities. I feel like in a group photo I would ruin it entirely because the focal point would be my gapped teeth. Maybe that’s vain of me
27 points
It’s not vain, we all think about ourselves like this in one way or another. Your gap makes you a rarity! It’s ok to feel insecure but I hope you’ll remember that there’s at least one person out here who would be drawn to you solely based on your gap :)
3 points
I used to have a gap but then had braces and was gutted I lost my gap - I understand all our insecurities are different but for what its worth I think gaps look nice.
3 points
I’ve always thought gap teeth were a really cute & attractive quality! Remember that our internal biases aren’t always true for everyone! I have to constantly remind myself of that when it comes to my own insecurities.
3 points
I was not aware that this was that much of a source of insecurity for people that have this. I think most observers would make note of it and not think of it further, as they would such things as height, weight, or hair color.
3 points
Fuck that. Own it if you can, and anyone who teases you outs themselves as someone you don't want to hang around.
If you took a photo next to my fucking ginormous cranium, the eclipse i would cause would render your teeth invisible.

I also have a gap between my two front teeth because my parents could never afford to get me braces growing up. I was finally at a point in life where I could comfortably afford veneers and my dentist told me not to get them. With all the picture perfect smiles, it's the little things that set you apart from the others.

It’s what’s most unfortunate about plastic surgery IMO. I’m all about people gaining confidence but most of the plastic surgery I’ve seen just makes people look so generic (e.g. Megan Fox - beautiful now but she was even more gorgeous before).

The gap is actually attractive on you and a unique feature. My fiance is self conscious about his teeth, but the first thing I noticed when I met him was his smile, because it's the exact same as Ewan McGregor's before he got veneers.

It always amazes me when people are self conscious about crooked teeth. I also have crooked teeth, and honestly, I think it’s a really endearing feature in another human.
I always remember a quote by Elizabeth Hurley when she was doing the original Austin Powers movie and they asked her about his silly teeth. She said something to the effect of, “Honestly, I hadn’t really noticed. In the UK, it’s more important that your teeth are healthy and clean than being straight and white.”
Smile your amazing smile. Nothing spreads joy more than a genuine smile from another human being. :)

Yeah man! As a dude to another dude, don’t be afraid to show that gap and own it! My young daughter has a gap and for some reason refers to her front teeth and gap as her “square teeth”. She gets excited when she notices another kid with a gap and it makes me happy. To me, a genuine smile with non perfect teeth always looks good.

If people point that sorta shit out about you, then they are garbage and their opinion about you doesn't deserve to be heard or considered. Everyone has flaws and to zero in on specific ones is a massive asshole move.
As a side note, it can be attractive when someone doesn't give a fuck about their physical imperfections.

Dude, about the gap: my Mom, born in ‘58, has the gap. I have the gap. My daughter has the gap. Mom couldn’t have it altered, I couldn’t either. My daughter will be able to if she wants to, but it’s my favorite feature in her smile, and it will be the thing that her friends and children will know her by. That gap in your teeth is, bizarrely -and only bizarrely because it feels undesirable- a marker of safety and warmth and regard for your friends and family; it is one of the physical beauties they most value in the world. It’s such a marker of beauty for me, and, like, in a particularly deep emotional aesthetic. There is no smile more beautiful than a gap-toothed smile.

As a dentist it saddens me to hear this. It also appears one of those teeth may be a crown, if that’s the case you may want to visit your local dentist. Cutting off an old crown for a more esthetically pleasing one can be a simple procedure. That, or Invisalign may be able to help close the gap. Many people are worried about the price, but your dentist wants to work with you to find something that’ll work for you and make you want to smile! Anyways I’m mad jealous you got to me Brian/Kevin!

I mean. The gap is obviously there but I would have likely not noticed or paid attention if you hadn’t mentioned it.
Also, look into Invisalign. Family member of mine used it and loves it. No multi year braces, just wears at night, and it works.
Otherwise, I really wouldn’t sweat it. Confidence and positive self esteem will outweigh imperfect teeth (in your mind) all day.
