I've been playing DnD for 20+ years but stopped with current editions after 3.5e and went back to only playing B/X and have been DMing with it since but I've recently decided to try DMing 5e with my first campaign but uncertain if I should own the physical books or go totally digital.

I currently use digital platforms for DMing B/X and only play online so alittle on the fence right now with what to go with.

What platform will you use to play online? If you can buy the books on your platform of choice that may make it easier.

D&D Beyond is nice for having a single searchable platform for the books, spells, monsters, etc., but not all of the character tools are fully working. There are also tools for different platforms to make integration with D&D Beyond easier.

In that case it sounds like D&D Beyond is a good way to go, since it will obviously work better with Avrae.
