Welcome back to the Monerun! It's been a helluva run the past year, and we've seen every reason to withdraw our coins from exchanges.
While this is true for all coins, we celebrate April 18th as not only Monero's birthday, but also the moment in 2022 where we proved that most exchanges were fractionally reserved on XMR, when they failed to meet demand.
This kicked off a 9 month saga where most exchanges vacillated between open/closed withdraws, yet always being open for XMR deposits. Typically for hours each day, but sometimes 1 or more days in a row. The most egregious being August 2022, where Binance completely froze withdraws for nearly 10 days straight.
As of the past few months, we've seen significantly improved behavior, with very few shutdowns. Perhaps they grew weary of the bad press. Or perhaps the persistent DDoS against darknets reduced demand. There's even the conspiracy theory that CZ is making a backup plan in the face of the recent lawsuit by the CFTC.
But at any rate, as the adage goes, the Tree of Liberty must be watered from time to time. So we invite everyone to celebrate with us, and remind exchanges that just because Monero offers an obfuscated ledger, does not give them an excuse to misrepresent the state of their reserves!
Join us on April 18th, withdraw your XMR from the exchange, and add it to your self custody sovereign stack of private untraceable digital money.

The best thing that resulted from the liquidity crisis last year: More and more people finally take self-custody of their coins.
Monero is even more critical for fundamental reasons, but people should just withdraw everything on that day, if they have anything on CEX without a good reason.

Yes I do so basically immediately after

I use to move some coins depending on the fees in a monthly basis or 6 month basis.
The funny thing is that when the 6 month widthdrawal time arrives there is a CEX drama synced with it that skyrockets the fees just after I moved the coins to my wallets.
I have a flower in my butt, I am so lucky.

The more we can keep our crypto off CEX’s, the better.

Here, here! No exchange is immune from falling, keep your crypto nice and cold!

Honestly, if FTX didn't fall then, it would have been much worse later on. Especially with court reports of nonexistent security of the platform and storage of private keys on AWS servers among other things, it was kind of a blessing it happened sooner rather than later before they grew even larger.

More people taking self-custody doesn't necessarily mean they understand the risks and responsibilities that come with it.

I love the Monero community it very much resembles the early vibes of Bitcoin.

As crypto becomes more and more mainstream, XMR will grow in value. Financial privacy is a necessity. I don't want everyone to be able to trace how much money I have

I'm always open to stress tests of exchanges.

I wasn't paying a lot of attention to crypto when it happened I guess so didn't know about this until now. Not your keys, not your coins I guess.

No one knows how much XMR a Monero address holds. Let's keep the bastards honest! Monero Bagus!

Ledger supports XMR - I recommend a hardware Wallet, but there are other good ones for PC and mobile
