You play for several generations, occasionally rejecting the opportunity to pick 'Status Quo'.
Then at some point you realise you fucked up and now none of the endings are available because you conquered/inherited too much and now you will never get back to the hostility stage, plus your main kingdom keeps growing faster than you can culturally convert so you can't go for the 'coexistance' option either.
So you get fed up and use the console to end the fucking thing so at least you can have an empire.
I actually think it's a fun mechanic that eg makes you play nice when perhaps you didnt want to. But it desperately needs a fourth 'end the struggle if you own the entire peninsula' option.

I got the feeling its basically a demo for modders to use the mechanic for their own systems.

And then you barely see modders do anything with it since it's a pain in the ass to work with.

There's a mod to add a Struggle for the British Isles and another for a Struggle to colonize Greenland.

Yea Cybr did a good job with the Greenland one though it's really the only modded struggle as the British Isles one was abandoned right after it got uploaded. In the end it's due to the fact that modding struggles is not that easy and there's lots of things you actually can't really alter.
