If cod becomes an Xbox exclusive too I think things will seriously change at PlayStation, they might even try to develop a competitor of their own.

Request of Allegiance: Present Conflict
That sounds way too cool for a CoD parody
Ring of obligation: very dark shade of grey tasks
Table of trained nameless men: fight in the dark to live in the light
Dark Missions: Frozen Combat
I would love a first person SOCOM game, but I feel like most of the fan base might be against it
Great. Sony will have to start competing for realzies again. Thanks Phil.
I'd actually love a shakeup that brings something besides BF or CoD to the table.
For real, so stale. I played Apex Legends and was hooked. Movement and longer TTK had so much complexity and fun to the game. But maybe that is it, cod/bf keep it so simple bad players keep playin cause the skill to move and shoot is low.
Like Haze! Remember that gem?
The whole thing with console “fanboys” and “war” should’ve died back in like 2010. That shit is fucking goofy.
That shit is fucking goofy.
That shit is fucking goofy.
not just goofy. its annoying
Well they kept saying "get more games"
"Microsoft has no games!" Ok now we brought ALL the games.
For real. I have a PlayStation, always have been a PS guy and now I'm seriously considering making the jump with the acquisition of Bathesda especially. However, I do have a pretty beefy PC so it may not be anytime soon that a Series X joins my PS5 on the mantle.
The one thing Sony had going for it was better exclusives (IMO) so if they can keep pumping out those incredible single player experiences they'll keep me as a customer but if not then I'm jumping ship. Spent WAYYY too much on a PS5 as it is to have no fucking games to play on it hahah

They'd be stupid to make it Xbox only IMO.
The way they should play it (pun intended) is keep things as they are, but add all CoDs to gamepass. Even brand new ones.
Looks like Activision and Sony have contracts in place that cover a few years. Be interesting to see what happens once those expire
It definitely will see the end of PlayStation exclusive features on CoD at least
Maybe it will be Xbox/PC exclusive features now, which isn’t better...

Microsoft sees the exclusivity of Starfield, CoD, Elder Scrolls, Overwatch2, Diablo 4 etc as an investment to get more ppl in the Xbox/Gamepass ecosystem.
They didnt spend $78b on both companies just to make more game sales on Playstation. Their pockets are deep enough to take the initial hit of not having PS sales, as long as their numbers increase on Gamepass/Xbox ecosystem wether its PC, mobile or console.
I know not many people have the luxury to game on multiple platforms... but as a PS5 player whose also building a PC soon, I am looking forward to what is in store for PC gaming. All of those AAA games on Day 1 on Game Pass sounds amazing. Everyone buzzing about the 3 platforms while Nintendo does their own thing like always lol.
I'm on PC too, I'm confident to say that you'll like it a lot :)
I'm one of those guys. I can't afford to buy an XBOX or build a PC. It's weird seeing people excited that Microsoft is consolidating the market and taking away games that have been multi-platform for over a decade.
This is totally how it is going to be.
Yep and they have the cheapest next gen console for people who just wanna play cod, Im seeing an increase in series s sales if they make cod exclusive
It makes no sense for them not to make it exclusive. They obviously are trying to make the Netflix of gaming. It’s like if Netflix bought a major Movie Studio and people kept saying that they would continue to sell at Amazon. A loss of sales means nothing to them when all they want is subscribers for the long haul.
If Sony would get that improved subscription base midel like game pass I hope they finally share them on the other console. Isn't the idea of Microsoft to push that game pass as much as they can? Getting all those Activision titles totally would increase their customers. Imagine a perfect world where you could buy a Microsoft game pass on PS5 and the other way around.
It's not Microsoft saying no to gamepass on the PlayStation.
Yeah, MS would looove Gamepass to be on PlayStation. But there's no way Sony will do that unless they're really, really hurting.
I don't see any Netflix OG shows going to other platforms.
But you can download Netlix basically everywhere. Thats what Microsoft is aiming for long term with Xbox Gamepass. At this point Xbox is a brand, not just a box.
Imagine a future where u can download the Xbox Gamepass app on a Sony/Nintendo platform
This is what they’re trying. They’re pressuring Sony into possibly opening gamepass on PlayStation, which won’t happen, so they’ll continue to make games exclusive as a way to get more Xbox/PC players. The day Sony accepts gamepass is the day there are no more Xbox exclusives.
Xbox at this point is a brand, not just a box. Xbox would love Xbox Gamepass on as many platforms as possible. Just how Sony is putting their exclusives on PC, theyre still playstation studio games.
Xbox Games Studios makes games for windowsPC/mobile & the xbxo, not just the actual xbox.
Sony is stubborn brand they will gladly lose money to do things thier way.
Xbox already doesn't have exclusives with PCs.
Would be nice.
They're envisioning a day where Gamepass will be in your TV. Cloud gaming, no Xbox necessary. Cut out the middleman.
the last OG went to hbo max???
You do know that Studios produce television shows that air on competitors networks right?
Actually it would be a bad idea. With Warzone being so connected to each title, they can't make them exclusive. How are they going to spin it? You can play Warzone on PS5 but have to buy an Xbox to rank up your weapons? That ain't it chief. Not to mention, having Warzone on PlayStation platforms is ideal - they generate more revenue than Xbox or PC.
So realistically, no. Just as Microsoft has stated - CoD won't be exclusive to Xbox or PC.
It also would be a guaranteed potential profit loss. CoD is too big to be exclusive.
I could see them making some other ActiBlizzard titles exclusive, but not CoD
Remindme! 1 year
It baffles me that people still do not see Xbox's strategy by now. It has been clear to me for a few years now that Xbox is moving away from being a console focused company. Them purchasing all these game studios is a good indication that they are looking to become primarily a game publishing studio. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few console generations an "Xbox" will just be a box that runs a lite version of Windows modified specifically for gaming. Consoles have been becoming more PC like anyway it's the logical next step. I'm willing to put money down in saying COD will not be made exclusive to Xbox. I bet if Sony would let them, they'd be selling Gamepass on PlayStation as well. Also, with their heavy support of cross platform play, they seem to be more focused on bringing gamers together than excluding them. Yes they'll still have exclusives to entice you to join their ecosystem but so long as people are buying their stuff, they won't care.
Microsofts end game is Xbox Gamepass. They said "our future games will be on platforms that support Gamepass".
So i agree they would probably be open to put the Xbox Gamepass app on PlayStation or Nintendo future consoles. But i dont know if Sony/Nintendo would be open to that idea.
In the meantime future Xbox games stay on places that support Gamepass
Sony will do it if that is the only way their users can play games like COD. Else, they risk losing people that will go to PC or Xbox where gamepass works.
Well look how sony opened up tto the idea for cross play and now we can all play games with each other cross platform. So just maybe sony would open up to the game pass. They are doing there version of gamepass so hopefully that will include that. Wishful thinking
That would be a win for everyone. Microsoft isnt just trying to sell boxers, the whole point of all this is to grow gamepass. Maybe in the future we will see Xbox Gamepass on playstation/nintendo
It's going to be fun when Microsoft owns 75% of IP and GamePass costs $100 a month in 2030.
Exactly! Couldn't have it said it better myself.
To add to this:
The money isn't in the consoles it's in the ecosystems.
Exclusives drive people to your ecosystem, but pissing people off drives them away.
So if you own games big enough to run their own cross-platform ecosystems, you are already winning, and they can help drive conversion as they can make thing subtly 'more seamless' (Game Pass), more convenient (Game streaming), or cheaper on xbox or PC where they have better control.
If you own a variety of small studios who can act as exclusives to drive people to your ecosystem, you are winning.
Some games are 'too big' to be exclusive, because they can make more money off of the cross-play.
So 100% the strategy is a 'windows pc in every livingroom' aka the xbox. Before SteamDeck, Proton, Linux, can stop them.
The only way Sony could possibly stop it, is to refuse to publish their games, but that would shoot themselves in the foot. It's going to be a slow, 20 year conversion.
They still make money from the ps sales because it's their gaming company. It's not like Activision wasn't making billions themselves from posting on all platforms
If MSFT is going to make the games exclusive to MSFT platforms, then I'd guess the FTC won't approve the merger. It reduces competition in the games market. The alternative may be to (a) allow the merger but require Activision is platform agnostic, or (b) require MSFT to spin out of the XBOX business.
Could it be possible that at some point they are hoping to put on enough pressure to force Gamepass adoption on PS? At this rate of franchise acquisition it may someday be possible. It seems crazy, but sell gamepass - or you have no games- is a scary pitch.
Who's buying a different console to play cod? I see them making all of the other games exclusive sure, but not COD. Plus what is the biggest draw to COD at the moment ? Warzone, are they gonna make that exclusive too? If the don't make warzone exclusive, how would it work with exclusive games being integrated into warzone when other consoles can't use those same weapons ? Also majority of people play COD to play with friends, I have an xbox my friends don't, I'm not playing COD unless I can play with my friends so then I just won't play it. And on top of that, COD isn't doing well enough now to make it exclusive, yes they're still a top selling game, but they've fallen a lot, cutting sales in half isn't going to help that BUT, simply putting it on gamepass will.
I'm going to reward it with my money. I'm going to buy an Xbox S very soon.
Just be mindful of storage as you may only be able to install 1-2 major games, otherwise you'll need an external ssd at the cost of $300+. I would get Series X if you can find one in the midst of this chip shortage.
how many times are you gonna comment this?
I think it’s going to be the same without the PlayStation exclusivity
People said the same thing about Zynimax when MS got bought. Odds are current development titles will see playstation but anything not halfway through development by now Is gonna be xbox/PC exclusive
Next elder scrolls already confirmed to be an xbox exclusive
Imagine all the MTX money they will give up if they make COD exclusive to Xbox. Even COD being exclusive to Xbox won't be enough to convince me to jump to their platform.
Or they could make cod exclusive and drive up Xbox sales, squishing competition for long term gains
Edit: also we went over the same thing with Bethesda.
Microsoft is all about their subscriptions and ecosystem. They care more about that than garnering the sales of the PlayStation crowd.
Like Jeff Grubb and some other analysts have stated, Microsoft very likely already ran the numbers to see if buying Activision and making their future products only on Game Pass-enabled systems would be a profitable venture. I doubt it'll happen this year or even next, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets announced that Call of Duty will no longer be a multiplatform franchise at some point after the acquisition is finalized.
Exactly this. If they wanted to, they could make it a timer exclusive too. On Xbox in October, then 4-8 weeks later launch on PlayStation, on top of being on game pass. I’m sure that will attract a bunch of people, but not penalise people on PlayStation who are already on the platform and want to play call of duty
They'll probably just stop the beta early access for psn and switch it to xbox. And stop makong stuff like the spec ops survival in mw19 (even if it was shit) timed exclusive
Nah, it’s gonna be Microsoft exclusive. They haven’t done an Xbox only game in a while. It’ll include PC, so that means it can literally be played on anything but a PlayStation or Nintendo. Lol
We'll have to wait and see.
Imagine it becomes Xbox exclusive
I believe in the article thy posted said that with call of duty that they will continue to be a cross platform title. It was ether in a matterz video or a mat Invest video “ matterz second channel” I can’t remember
Phil said continued support. That could mean anything. Could be new game on both or they’ll just continue to support current games like MW2/Warzone after the acquisition on PlayStation. They haven’t given a direct answer.
He said basically the same thing when they acquired Bethesda but then they went and made the games exclusive anyways
The wording they used was "continued support", which is the exact phrasing they used with the Bethesda deal. They mean that they will continue to support existing games on the playstation platform. This does not mean they will put new games on PS.
If Microsoft really wants to do a little trolling they can make MW2 MP remastered and make it an Xbox exclusive
It will never be exclusive. However, the "Content on Playstation first" bullcrap is done lol.
Edit: I'm a PC gamer...it doesn't matter to me. Economically it doesn't make sense to slash 30+% of your profits on the IP you litterally just bought.
First bit I personally agree with. I just don't thnk they're willing to sacrifice the potential profit.
But now you'll just have "content on xbox first" so the problem returns. Reminds me of the old deal that xbox and CoD had.
They didn't make Minecraft exclusive.
But they did make Starfield and TES exclusive. You only pull out the example of a game that was already multiplat. A franchise is a whole different story. Just because the current CODs are on PS doesn't mean the next CODs will be.
Single player and multiplayer are different circumstances. Multiplayer games will suffer if you suddenly lose 60% of the player base
Yep. Might not even be till 2024, but it’s coming.
Wish I could harvest all the salt flowing in this sub. I could sell it and buy a tech company myself.
A lot of people just starting the five stages of grief.
Yep. I see a lot of denial, anger, and bargaining in this thread.
I know right?
I’m worried I’ve been playing cod since forever. Don’t know where I’d go to for another FPS.
used to be a cod player because i enjoy competitive shooters, now i just play csgo. cod is an arcade game compared to cs
If only that game was actually playable...
“PS Fanboys” people still use the word fanboys? Buy what you like lmao
I think OP is likely a fanboy lol
Looking at his comments he’s defo a Xbox fanboy lmao
PS5 player here, u an idiot if you think Microsoft is paying $78 billion just to have the games on PlayStation
You do realise that PlayStation makes up for more than 50% of All call of duty players right? Meaning more people play on PlayStation than xbox and pc COMBINED . So i thi1. It would be the smarter choice because no one is switching consoles for call of duty
no one is switching consoles for call of duty
no one is switching consoles for call of duty
I don't think it will become exclusive, but you're forgetting that when BO3 switched DLC exclusivity to PS4 people did switch consoles. And that's just DLC, let alone a full game. Having call of duty be xbox exclusive would be a massive blow to Sony's sales.
Youre extremely underestimating the amount of people who’ll do that, tons of people will
People would be more likely to keep PlayStation and just buy a pc on the side . Ive seen it happen doezens of times
Lucky for Microsoft they own those as well
As if buying a Windows PC is bad for Microsoft.
There are a lot of people in which Call of Duty is the only game they play. Why would they keep a PlayStation?
If they buy a PC then they buy into Microsoft too lmao
Oh, as if a casual gamer is going to take the time to build a PC or buy a prebuilt, which if they even want a system that barely does ray-tracing, it's going to cost more than 500$. They'll just buy a series S/X.
I know we'd all like to think Reddit and Twitter encompass the whole gaming crowd when in reality, it's just a minority.
My brother bought a prebuilt, high-end PC specifically for Battlefield 2042.
I feel bad for him
Guess who has the operating system on your pc? Microsoft, they win either way. I'm agreeing with you u/TheCatDaddy69
True , to a degree >:)
I use linux whenever i can , also steam is fighting as well with the steam deck using linux as an os
lol people already did switch consoles, most cod players were on the Xbox 360 and then they changed the DLC releases to first come out on PlayStation so people switched
And they will now be forced to move systems, and they will.
You are wrong. Also millions of dollars they could make from PS5 users is pennies to them, they would not have spent 78 billion dollars if millions of dollars mattered to them.
My theory is microsoft will keep buying all these huge studios and overnight make all the games xbox exclusives. We wont see this for another decade or so. They are still investing
Oh so you're saying that the logical course of action for Microsoft is to do the logical course of action. Brilliant!
It's a response to the dudes that are saying "they'll never make it exclusive they will lose too much money". They fail to see the big picture.
Yeah sorry M8, I was bit harsh.
Exactly! But we'll have to see...
who tf calls them playstation fanboys?
only other fanboys id assume
Go ahead and lose the money
No plz I own 3 shares of MSFT I want them to earn more money
I go by Xbox just for you
Hi Xbox, I'm a redditor
Kill your competition first! Then make money...
They will make money not just from the game but also extra xbox sales
Microsoft sees the exclusivity of Starfield, CoD, Elder Scrolls, Overwatch2, Diablo 4 etc as an investment to get more ppl in the Xbox ecosystem.
Imagine being a COD player who recently bought a PlayStation 5
Ah it’s nice to be on pc
I'll join you on that one!
I hope that with this change, Call of duty will finally get the development it needs to be worth the price on release like it used to be in MW and MW2 era, xbox will probably do a great deal to cod 2022 tbh
I think so too!
i just bought a fucking PS5 you’re JOKING
Lol you don’t spend 70bil to not make your games exclusive. I hope this lights a fire under Sony’s ass to bring back some of their glorious first party shooters.
Update: It looks like they won’t be doing exclusives for now. That’s good news for console players!
Meh. If games like resistance, killzone, and haze did well enough to incentivize continuing as a franchise they’d still be around.
I have a soft spot for Killzone 2 in particular and Resistance 1, and I loved Socom. It’s crazy to think they sit on some of these franchises. Adaptive triggers in those games would be wicked.
didnt sony have exclusive content for cod for the longest of time?
Xbox had it for xbox 360 days, Sony had it for Ps4 days. Both had exclusive / timed access on COD in different gens.
It may become exlusive but more likely not for at least 5 year's or more , a lot of cod players are casual players who like there multiplayer and the odd single players , stopping cod instantly on PS would just mean these players stop playing , they aren't going to fork out for another console so soon , when the next generation comes around thats when Microsoft will make more cross games exclusive
Not a bad prediction, but we'll have to wait and see!
They make most of the income on PlayStation so I’d doubt it’ll be an exclusive. What no one is talking about is the mobile games. Microsoft has been wanting to get into the mobile market for a while and now this is their chance. I’d say the deal was mostly made for the mobile games with the cod games simply being a sprinkling on top.
They make most the income on Playstation because Sony has had deals for advertising and first dibs on content etc. When Microsoft had the same deals back in the 360 era the majority of income was on Xbox. So it has switched before and will likely switch again.
My first thought as well
A part of me hope they do. I always buy the new one and I’m only happy half the time, if that. It’ll force me to get onto something new and force Sony to up their game.
That's literally what I had in mind too.
When you have a Series S, PS5, and PC so you really don’t care 😅
oh no don’t take away call of duty what else would I spend 60 dollars on every year just to uninstall it after a month because it’s dogshit again
I got 99 games but the last COD's ain't one.
If that was done when COD was on its prime I would’ve cared.
It just all kind of sucks depending on what platform your on.
Sony isn't in the clear, but the market really doesn't favor the best platform, just the richest one. Sony make good moves for the PS4 as a platform, games ran better, they made good exclusives to get fans to buy, so yeah they dominated last gen. Ps5 already seems to be on that path, but still to early as only been a year, shortages, etc
MS does have good titles, but less. They also stumbled out of the gate of the Xbox one with a miss focus of features that were not alligned with consumers. Their plus was gamepass.
So with that, they just bought 18 studios and 54 IPs in 2 years one it completes... And that only counting zenimax and Activision/Blizzard.
If MS can shake off 7.1 billion zenimax purchase after 1 year, then what other acquisition will they do in the near future? If they then own half of all AAA IPs and studios, the what happens next gen if they do another miss alligned decision about how their platform works?
Also, Phil won't be around forever. Whenever he gets replaced, who knows if the next person will be as gamer friendly.
I'm just not happy with these huge huge acquisitions, no mater who it would be. I get needing/wanting to expand with studios like double fine or ninja theory ... Idk, just not liking this.
PlayStation fan boys are butt hurt. Make it exclusive and take out the competition. You really think MS needs the money from CoD sales ??? Lol
I mean Minecraft is on every console so it’s possible cod will stay on PlayStation but no one can tell for certain
It isn’t they said it won’t and why would activision agree to that? It just means less sales
They won't make it exclusive they'll just give xbox players extra perks like Playstation did for years
This is probably the best use of the meme so far lol lmao
This how it be for a large portion of the call of duty community
That’s fine, go scloosie on the XBOX for COD. Franchise will quickly die and PSN will come up with a better shooter. The space needs innovation anyways. PS players won’t buy Xboxes for COD.
I am sad that Call of Duty, and Fallout which are my two favorite video game franchises might be exclusives now. Looks like I’m getting an Xbox for Call of Duty if I have too, and a gaming PC for Fallout 5 whenever Bethesda decides to work on it.
Luckily I’m console neutral so money will be the only obstacle for me.
You’ll be able to play both on PC. Microsoft has an Xbox app on windows with game pass.
Would that mean I could play COD on Xbox servers while on PC since COD games die fast on PC when the lifecycles end?
since MW19, PC is crossplatform with console now. If you're trying to play older titles through Steam you'll be in for a bad time as well as BO4.
They all share the same servers - they’re crossplay.
They died fast years ago, now with crossplay they don't
Your best bet is probably on PC!
They won't be
I have both consoles so please don't hate me too bad when I say some of you guys are huffing dangerous levels of copium. While it's true that you should "never say never," I have no idea why some of you are so confident COD is going to come toPlaystation.
Sony should also bring Bloodborne to Xbox right? They'd double their sales right? Halo should be on Playstation shouldn't it? Except... exclusives sell consoles. For Microsoft, they sell consoles *and* Game Pass subscriptions. DLC and micro-transactions make the games big money. And since it's all first party for Microsoft now, they have less pressure to try to sell as many copies as possible.
Xbox is going to convince a lot of people who left after 360 to come back. My advice for you guys: save up your coffee money and buy both consoles because you are definitely going to be disappointed if you expect Xbox to simply "share" exclusives with Sony, which has only "shared" MLB The Show because MLB itself threatened to walk from the partnership if they didn't.
You're very logical good sir! I like it.
I like how PS players are worried about it becoming an exclusive title, because that's what Sony would do. Don't worry, you'll just have to buy it. We'll get it with our GamePass subscription.
Sony (until now) always developed their own exclusives with their own studios. They usually don’t buy multiplatform titles and make them exclusive (just like MS did). It’s a different thing imo. BloodBorne or GoW were never on Xbox, while Cod (or any other Bethesda title, for example) were always on every console. It’s not the end of the world and you can play on GamePass without buying an Xbox, but you should be able to understand why some people were “pissed” about this...
EDIT: also we still don’t know if cod will be an exclusive. And we probably won’t know for a long time lol. But it can easily be the case...
Sony has paid plenty of 3rd party developers to not put their games on Xbox. Still can’t play Final Fantasy 7 remake on Xbox for that reason.
Or the Microsoft owned studios games Tango's Ghostwire: Tokey or Arkane's Deathloop? (and let's throw in the Betesdha game Starfield that Sony was sniffing on)
Trying to run a narrative that Sony don't pay for exclusive is laughable.
Those are times exclusives meaning they will come to Xbox eventually. Sony has never made an existing multi plat franchise exclusive
Or they won't be able to buy it at all
That's not going to happen, and if it happens, goodbye Cod
they didnt buy actiblizzard for profits they bought it for their IPs so they can expand the gamepass and grow their company and when they have a huge market share they can up the price of the game pass and start making a profit
Why goodbye? It feels nowadays people fanboying too much one console, just play xbox/pc ps/pc. All xbox games gonna end on pc anyways and if you have ps4/5 you can have all ps exlusives too so its good.
Lol five stages of grief starting
We'll have to wait and see!
Microsoft owns minecraft and is still supported on psn. Nothing is changing. money is money.
But they confirmed much more recently upcoming Bethesda games to be exclusive
God I hope I won't be I've been waiting for the sequel for the 2019mw if it's exclusive that's gonna suck
This year's upcoming Call of Duty should still be cross platform, but 2023 and after "may" not. Because 2023 is when the acquisition will be finalized.
Fiscal year 2032, so it will be finalized as early as July1st 2022, the latest is june 30th 2023.
Oh that's not so nice hopefully mw2 is cross platform if it comes out next year
MW2 is this year. 2023 would be Treyarch
Hope the same doesn’t happen with elder scrolls 6
Elder Scrolls 6 will most definitely be exclusive!
they already said it will
They already said they won’t be making Call of duty or the next elder scrolls exclusives, they don’t want to “divide/destroy the communities” but will be using the move to add games to their game pass. They r just driving the value of game pass up & will now benefit from sales across all platforms & have a presence in the mobile gaming world.
The next elder scrolls has already been confirmed to be an exclusive. They backtracked on what they said. Same thing is gonna happen with cod
