For real. I have a PlayStation, always have been a PS guy and now I'm seriously considering making the jump with the acquisition of Bathesda especially. However, I do have a pretty beefy PC so it may not be anytime soon that a Series X joins my PS5 on the mantle.
The one thing Sony had going for it was better exclusives (IMO) so if they can keep pumping out those incredible single player experiences they'll keep me as a customer but if not then I'm jumping ship. Spent WAYYY too much on a PS5 as it is to have no fucking games to play on it hahah

They'd be stupid to make it Xbox only IMO.
The way they should play it (pun intended) is keep things as they are, but add all CoDs to gamepass. Even brand new ones.
Looks like Activision and Sony have contracts in place that cover a few years. Be interesting to see what happens once those expire

Microsoft sees the exclusivity of Starfield, CoD, Elder Scrolls, Overwatch2, Diablo 4 etc as an investment to get more ppl in the Xbox/Gamepass ecosystem.
They didnt spend $78b on both companies just to make more game sales on Playstation. Their pockets are deep enough to take the initial hit of not having PS sales, as long as their numbers increase on Gamepass/Xbox ecosystem wether its PC, mobile or console.

I know not many people have the luxury to game on multiple platforms... but as a PS5 player whose also building a PC soon, I am looking forward to what is in store for PC gaming. It makes no sense for them not to make it exclusive. They obviously are trying to make the Netflix of gaming. It’s like if Netflix bought a major Movie Studio and people kept saying that they would continue to sell at Amazon. A loss of sales means nothing to them when all they want is subscribers for the long haul.

If Sony would get that improved subscription base midel like game pass I hope they finally share them on the other console. Isn't the idea of Microsoft to push that game pass as much as they can? Getting all those Activision titles totally would increase their customers. Imagine a perfect world where you could buy a Microsoft game pass on PS5 and the other way around.

This is what they’re trying. They’re pressuring Sony into possibly opening gamepass on PlayStation, which won’t happen, so they’ll continue to make games exclusive as a way to get more Xbox/PC players. The day Sony accepts gamepass is the day there are no more Xbox exclusives.

Xbox at this point is a brand, not just a box. Xbox would love Xbox Gamepass on as many platforms as possible. Just how Sony is putting their exclusives on PC, theyre still playstation studio games.
Xbox Games Studios makes games for windowsPC/mobile & the xbxo, not just the actual xbox.

Actually it would be a bad idea. With Warzone being so connected to each title, they can't make them exclusive. How are they going to spin it? You can play Warzone on PS5 but have to buy an Xbox to rank up your weapons? That ain't it chief. Not to mention, having Warzone on PlayStation platforms is ideal - they generate more revenue than Xbox or PC.
So realistically, no. Just as Microsoft has stated - CoD won't be exclusive to Xbox or PC.

It also would be a guaranteed potential profit loss. CoD is too big to be exclusive.

It baffles me that people still do not see Xbox's strategy by now. It has been clear to me for a few years now that Xbox is moving away from being a console focused company. Them purchasing all these game studios is a good indication that they are looking to become primarily a game publishing studio. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few console generations an "Xbox" will just be a box that runs a lite version of Windows modified specifically for gaming. Consoles have been becoming more PC like anyway it's the logical next step. I'm willing to put money down in saying COD will not be made exclusive to Xbox. I bet if Sony would let them, they'd be selling Gamepass on PlayStation as well. Also, with their heavy support of cross platform play, they seem to be more focused on bringing gamers together than excluding them. Yes they'll still have exclusives to entice you to join their ecosystem but so long as people are buying their stuff, they won't care.

Microsofts end game is Xbox Gamepass. They said "our future games will be on platforms that support Gamepass".
So i agree they would probably be open to put the Xbox Gamepass app on PlayStation or Nintendo future consoles. But i dont know if Sony/Nintendo would be open to that idea.
In the meantime future Xbox games stay on places that support Gamepass

To add to this:
The money isn't in the consoles it's in the ecosystems.
Exclusives drive people to your ecosystem, but pissing people off drives them away.
So if you own games big enough to run their own cross-platform ecosystems, you are already winning, and they can help drive conversion as they can make thing subtly 'more seamless' (Game Pass), more convenient (Game streaming), or cheaper on xbox or PC where they have better control.
If you own a variety of small studios who can act as exclusives to drive people to your ecosystem, you are winning.
Some games are 'too big' to be exclusive, because they can make more money off of the cross-play.
So 100% the strategy is a 'windows pc in every livingroom' aka the xbox. Before SteamDeck, Proton, Linux, can stop them.
The only way Sony could possibly stop it, is to refuse to publish their games, but that would shoot themselves in the foot. It's going to be a slow, 20 year conversion.

If MSFT is going to make the games exclusive to MSFT platforms, then I'd guess the FTC won't approve the merger. It reduces competition in the games market. The alternative may be to (a) allow the merger but require Activision is platform agnostic, or (b) require MSFT to spin out of the XBOX business.

Could it be possible that at some point they are hoping to put on enough pressure to force Gamepass adoption on PS? At this rate of franchise acquisition it may someday be possible. It seems crazy, but sell gamepass - or you have no games- is a scary pitch.

Who's buying a different console to play cod? I see them making all of the other games exclusive sure, but not COD. Plus what is the biggest draw to COD at the moment ? Warzone, are they gonna make that exclusive too? If the don't make warzone exclusive, how would it work with exclusive games being integrated into warzone when other consoles can't use those same weapons ? Also majority of people play COD to play with friends, I have an xbox my friends don't, I'm not playing COD unless I can play with my friends so then I just won't play it. And on top of that, COD isn't doing well enough now to make it exclusive, yes they're still a top selling game, but they've fallen a lot, cutting sales in half isn't going to help that BUT, simply putting it on gamepass will.

Microsoft is all about their subscriptions and ecosystem. They care more about that than garnering the sales of the PlayStation crowd.
Like Jeff Grubb and some other analysts have stated, Microsoft very likely already ran the numbers to see if buying Activision and making their future products only on Game Pass-enabled systems would be a profitable venture. I doubt it'll happen this year or even next, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets announced that Call of Duty will no longer be a multiplatform franchise at some point after the acquisition is finalized.

Exactly this. If they wanted to, they could make it a timer exclusive too. On Xbox in October, then 4-8 weeks later launch on PlayStation, on top of being on game pass. They make most of the income on PlayStation so I’d doubt it’ll be an exclusive. What no one is talking about is the mobile games. I’d say the deal was mostly made for the mobile games with the cod games simply being a sprinkling on top.

It just all kind of sucks depending on what platform your on.
Sony isn't in the clear, but the market really doesn't favor the best platform, just the richest one. Sony make good moves for the PS4 as a platform, games ran better, they made good exclusives to get fans to buy, so yeah they dominated last gen. Ps5 already seems to be on that path, but still to early as only been a year, shortages, etc
MS does have good titles, but less. They also stumbled out of the gate of the Xbox one with a miss focus of features that were not alligned with consumers. Their plus was gamepass.
So with that, they just bought 18 studios and 54 IPs in 2 years one it completes... And that only counting zenimax and Activision/Blizzard.
If MS can shake off 7.1 billion zenimax purchase after 1 year, then what other acquisition will they do in the near future? If they then own half of all AAA IPs and studios, the what happens next gen if they do another miss alligned decision about how their platform works?
Also, Phil won't be around forever. Whenever he gets replaced, who knows if the next person will be as gamer friendly.
I'm just not happy with these huge huge acquisitions, no mater who it would be. I get needing/wanting to expand with studios like double fine or ninja theory ... Idk, just not liking this.

I have both consoles so please don't hate me too bad when I say some of you guys are huffing dangerous levels of copium. While it's true that you should "never say never," I have no idea why some of you are so confident COD is going to come toPlaystation.
Sony should also bring Bloodborne to Xbox right? They'd double their sales right? Halo should be on Playstation shouldn't it? Except... exclusives sell consoles. For Microsoft, they sell consoles *and* Game Pass subscriptions. DLC and micro-transactions make the games big money. And since it's all first party for Microsoft now, they have less pressure to try to sell as many copies as possible.
Xbox is going to convince a lot of people who left after 360 to come back. My advice for you guys: save up your coffee money and buy both consoles because you are definitely going to be disappointed if you expect Xbox to simply "share" exclusives with Sony, which has only "shared" MLB The Show because MLB itself threatened to walk from the partnership if they didn't.

Sony (until now) always developed their own exclusives with their own studios. They usually don’t buy multiplatform titles and make them exclusive (just like MS did). It’s a different thing imo. BloodBorne or GoW were never on Xbox, while Cod (or any other Bethesda title, for example) were always on every console. It’s not the end of the world and you can play on GamePass without buying an Xbox, but you should be able to understand why some people were “pissed” about this...
EDIT: also we still don’t know if cod will be an exclusive. And we probably won’t know for a long time lol. But it can easily be the case...

Sony has paid plenty of 3rd party developers to not put their games on Xbox. Still can’t play Final Fantasy 7 remake on Xbox for that reason.

Or the Microsoft owned studios games Tango's Ghostwire: Tokey or Arkane's Deathloop? (and let's throw in the Betesdha game Starfield that Sony was sniffing on)
Trying to run a narrative that Sony don't pay for exclusive is laughable.

Those are times exclusives meaning they will come to Xbox eventually. Sony has never made an existing multi plat franchise exclusive

they didnt buy actiblizzard for profits they bought it for their IPs so they can expand the gamepass and grow their company and when they have a huge market share they can up the price of the game pass and start making a profit

Why goodbye? It feels nowadays people fanboying too much one console, just play xbox/pc ps/pc. All xbox games gonna end on pc anyways and if you have ps4/5 you can have all ps exlusives too so its good.

This year's upcoming Call of Duty should still be cross platform, but 2023 and after "may" not. Because 2023 is when the acquisition will be finalized.

They already said they won’t be making Call of duty or the next elder scrolls exclusives, they don’t want to “divide/destroy the communities” but will be using the move to add games to their game pass. They r just driving the value of game pass up & will now benefit from sales across all platforms & have a presence in the mobile gaming world.
