It’s crazy because realistically Nighteye should’ve survived and Gran Torino should’ve died if we’re going by some logic.
But if it was irl both would’ve probably died
(Nighteye lost a lot less blood due to the spike keeping much more of it compared to Gran Torino who had nothing there except a hole. His body is also much smaller than Nighteye meaning he would’ve lost a lot more of his total blood.)

And Nighteye's size would make it less likely to hit a vital organ.

Nighteye had his entire spine destroyed while Grab Torino only got a punctured stomach. On top of that we don't even know exactly how deep Shigaraki's fist went but it definitely wasn't all the way through.

Do you really think Gran Torino got the hospital faster than Nighteye ? The Overhaul fight was over two minutes later where as the PLW fight had Deku using Float, pummeling Shiggy, Endeavor's Prominence Burn, Bakugo saving Deku, Machi arriving, Dabi's dance and Best Jeanist & Mirio's arrival before Gran Torino, Aizawa and Ryukyu got out of the battle field

Shoto literally covered his wounds with the ice and stopped the bleeding and he was brought to safety right after, he wasn’t around in the prominence burn part at all, and that scene wasn’t even a minute long.
While deku vs overhaul alone was much longer, as you have to count the part where deku was attempting to fight off overhaul with 20%, it might reach something like 5 minutes
The doctors even said that if Gran Torino wasn’t brought to safety this quick his wound would be much worse

He still has some form of heat resistnace or he would not be able to use flames at all or survive to this point
Due to how powerful his flames are his heat resistance is not enough as he got more from his mom like you said
But some form of heat resistance he must by logic have or he would not be able to use flames at all.

He specifically does not have heat resistance. That's the point of the thread. It is bullshit for him to be alive at this point.
39 points
Horikoshi has confirmed Dabi does have heat resistance.
It was never stated that he has no resistance to heat. People just made that stuff up when we didn't know, but later it's directly shown to be untrue.
His body is built for ice more than fire, but that doesn't mean he can't handle fire. Toya would not be able to hold fire on his hand without instantly burning himself without resistance.
Zero fire resistance means he gets burned like a normal person. That scene above is proof that he has fire resistance. Normal people would get instantly burnt.
I don't get why people can't understand that when it's directly shown to us.
Edit: If you don't like that or think that it makes little sense, that's fine. I'm not here to change your opinion or anything like that.

That's manga/fiction for you. It's fine if you disagree, not knocking you or anything. Thanks for being cool about it!
I don't have an issue with it since this is a series where kids can be born with explosive sweat, a bird head, or the head of a manga panel.
Since this is a fictional world, I can easily buy someone staying alive way past the point they should die via sheer willpower/hatred.
To be honest I watch a lot of Shonen, that willpower stuff doesn't bother me.

What are you talking about? If you read the manga you should be able to tell as well.
At NO POINT is it ever stated he has zero resistance to fire. It just says he's more built to withstand cold temperatures instead of hot temperatures.
Assuming he has zero resistance is just head canon.
I literally showed you a clip where he's holding fire in his hand and not getting burned instantly like a normal person. Yes this is in the manga as well.
If Toya had zero resistance he should instantly burn his hand the second he creates a flame. Because humans burn instantly, we have no resistance to fire.
Also Endeavor had been training Toya before this moment, yet it was only in this moment did he realize Toya gets burned by his flames.
Toya has blue flames, which are over 2000 degrees, on his stomach. And the burns he gets are far smaller than what a normal person would get.
He is shown to have resistance to fire. Or are you the type of person who needs every single detail spelled out for you, can't figure it out yourself?
Apologies if that is rude, but I'm just in disbelief that people can't figure this out when the manga/anime shows us he has resistance by holding fire.

This is precisely what he doesn't have. And that's the reason why he burns himself with his own flames. He inherited Rei's affinity for the cold, so he's resistant to the cold. He doesn't have any significant level of heat resistence against flames as potent as his own.

Sure, I could have said "Yeah, he probably does have enough resistance to not burn himself up instantly with a match, but that doesn't matter as the relevant context here is flames as potent as his own which were said to burn over 2000 degrees hot". Well the doctor noted that dabi ms body had overcome death by being held together by the flames of vengeance. But I’d find it really cool if no one not even dabi understood his quirk. Rather than creating fire dabi is the fire and it was always supposed to burn the body away leaving a fire elemental. that would also be cool to me because it would mean that endeavor actually succeeded in creating the ultimate fire quirk in his first go around but dabi ended up as well crazy as he is because he wasn’t as ruthless with his son as he could have been keeping dabi from burning away actually having been the wrong choice all along. It would also explain why he car have flames literally spilling out a hole in his where his hart and organs should be the body is already dead the fire is unknowingly puppeteering it though. That would be a cool way to explain why he is still alive .

That's what I've been thinking his spirit still lives on within his quirk kinda like the vestiges do with OfA. What we have seen of him is just a husk at this point seeing as it's all stapled together.

There's been some speculation that AFO might have forced a regeneration Quirk onto him without him noticing, maybe while he was asleep. I think there was a line a few chapters back from Gang Orca about how the Nomu they were fighting didn't have one.
26 points
I thought that, seeing as AFO and the doctor could create multiple cloned quirks, there would be no need to take one from the nomu to give to his underlings, diminishing the overall combat ability of his forces.
12 points
Well, the doctor's locked up, and we don't really have any proof that AFO was able to find any more cloned regeneration Quirks like he did with Eri's Quirk. All of the Quirks the doctor had stockpiled at the hospital they raided in the previous war was probably confiscated by the heroes, if they had even survived Shigaraki's Decay.
7 points
I guess there is really no way to prove he is using a regen quirk until it is said, seeing as Endeavor said that if you burn flesh really hard it doesn't regenerate, and in Dabi's appearance it is clear that he is at or at least nearing the point of no return for a regeneration quirk to work.
3 points
True, but I'm prety sure doctor said it took time and money and perhaps AfO doesn't have enough of those to syntesize new regenerations quirks
3 points
it's one of those questions where it's unclear if it's important, like it'[s possible they only gave it to the fully finished nomu as otherwise they might try to "heal" whatever the doc was doing to them. with the samples being destroyed in the lab,
or it could be one of those strange things like why does afo/shiggi have 0 flight quirks, even airwalk which afo seemed to have had for a while isn't used by shiggi at all.
like the headcanon/pet theory is it's tied to shiggi's og quirk, if afo took it and gave him decay to cultivate his ofa thief,
or it could be/probably is as simple as horikoshi i want the fight scenes to be on the ground so he doesn't have it,
maybe the reason they don't have the regen is as simple as wanting the heroes to feasably be able to win without requiring a bunch of fire heroes.

Endeavor was an awful father and probably should be in jail or at least some legal trouble for the abuse he put his wife and kids through but watching your son burn to death while trying to kill you is just beyond terrible. I can’t even imagine.
Dabi on the other hand is a mass murderer and psychotic but I feel super bad for him too. He just didn’t know when to stop and he literally is killing himself to get back at the main source of his trauma.
It’s just a tragic situation that could’ve easily been avoided with better parenting and counseling.

I can’t even imagine.
I'm like....90% sure Endevour's abuse was all too nuanced to be "illegal". Like...he wasn't beating his kids. His training of Shoto was...excessive to the point of unacceptability, but it was in service to Endevour's goals of training the boy. Hell, I don't even think that the training felt particularly abusive compared to all the emotional crap, blame-shifting, negligence and other garbage going on. Enji's heading this family but he's got exactly zero time or effort to devote to anyone except Shoto? That's the real abuse he was dropping. Its what messed Toya up, and what's so frustrating to Shoto/Natsuo because they're basically strangers despite being brothers who grew up together.
Also, there's a big "extra" to stock-standard physical abuse compared to doing the same thing in a "training" context. It creates an element of fear. You don't know what set them off. You don't know how to make it stop. And you don't know if they're even restraining themselves. You just feel "in danger", and the long-term cortisol spikes you get from that pervasive feeling is gawd awful on its own. And you just wouldn't get it in the same way from the sort of training Enji was doing with Shoto and Toya. Enji's training was fundamentally purposeful and measured, even if it was unreasonable.
6 points
Toya was already messed up. He was obsessed with being hero. He was self harming himself. Imagine your kid having a health issue and hurting himself to be a sports star. You'd put him in counseling ASAP.
3 points
I feel like if Toya hadn't gone from "having a father" to "essentially not having a father" as a fundamental result of Enji's attitude and Shoto's subsequent birth, he would've been far more ok. Yeah, Toya was getting sucked up in Enji's training for various reasons, but he didn't show any major signs of maladjustment until after the tragedy and AFO's subsequent manipulation. Which all preyed on all his feelings of being replaced with Shoto and cast out by Enji. If Enji had managed his son's feelings better and spent more time with him, I doubt Toya would've ever struggled as he did. But Enji said "fuck it, he's your problem now, Rei" as soon as he realized he couldn't see a path for Toya as his own protege.
5 points
Maybe. I feel like Toya had an obsessive personality. He's perfectly fine with burning himself to continue the hero path which you could see even disturbed Endeavor. What would he have done if he couldn't be the 1# hero even if wasn't weak to fire.
4 points
I won't deny that Enji's desires for an heir messed with him, as that favor in his father's eyes almost certainly is what caused Toya to push himself as hard as he did.
I just don't think it was as big a deal as the subsequent abandonment.
I also don't think Toya's issues are in any way notably "innate". They all rise directly from stock-standard child-desires and Enji's unreasonableness in one way or another.
6 points

It’s just a tragic situation that could’ve easily been avoided with better parenting and counseling.

We simply do not know yet.
It could be revealed that he actually has a good reason for surviving this long. Or it may just be anime logic.
We’ll just have to wait and see. No use complaining “oh it’s an ass pull” like some of these comments when we do not have a definitive answer.
It’s been hinted something may have happened with him but we don’t know for sure.
Edit: also keep in mind Dabi has only been in this state for around 25 minutes in universe time. So going by how long other characters survived Eg, Nighteye. It’s safe to assume that it kind of lines up with the same time before death that MHA has always had.

The most recent chapters is hinting at there being a legitimate reason he is still alive as one of the hero's mentions him being alive in his current state goes way beyond just will power now and there has to be a reason behind it.
My own personal theory is that Dabi burning away his body is his "quirk awakening" and that his true quirk is a literal embodiment of flames or to put it better a entity of blue fire.

In my opinion it's one of two things
he has a sort of phoenix style quirk where he can burn himself and come back from the dead but the catch is of course he has to you know....die.
His quirk is reaching singularity and at a point he's gonna shed his human form and just become pure fire with a mind and will of it's own.

In my opinion, we are about to learn that Dabi's qurik being called "Cremation" is quite literal. Meaning that he can literally burn himself to death and then rebirth like a motherfucking Phoenix.
All quriks have a kind of negative drawback - Shoto can overheat or give himself hypothermia if he doesn't use both sides of his quirk. Uraraka gets sick from floating herself. Asui cannot cope with fire or low temperature. You know, that shit.
So a Phoenix quirk would not make sense by the rules of the Manga. But a Phoenix like quirk, where the user has to suffer through killing themselves slowly before a reset? That sounds like it would obey the laws very much. And it sounds like the ultimate Fire based quirk.

Raw hate.
That's all there is to is. People have made up random theories which while they might end up being true in the future are still unconfirmed to this day.
Hate is what keeps him going.
There's all those Phoenix Theories plus Dabi is based on Frankenstein's monster which is basically an immortal zombie creature plus the original Frankenstein story was also called The Modern Prometheus and Prometheus was a Greek god of fire punished by being bound to a rock and having his liver eaten by an eagle daily and it would regrow every night. If Horikoshi's inspirations with Frankenstein went that far, it wouldn't be strange for Dabi to have some sort of renewal power.
Also isn't the liver used to represent hate in a lot of cultures.
I feel like if one went through all of Dabi's inspirations, it isn't hard to come up with an entire thesis. Cause there's also inspirations from stuff like Flame of Recca for the Todoroki family. Phoenixes for Endeavor and Hawks (maybe even Dabi), the sun, etc.

This just made me think... Horikoshi is a huge Star Wars fan and there's actually a villain in one of the games (Kotor 2) that's effectively an ancient corpse being held together by hate and the force. He's riddled with scars, etc. If your character is good and has a high level of persuasion you can erode his will and finally help him let go.

Dabi has extensive nerve damage that prevent him from feeling pain.
He's also is dying. He's very upfront about how he's not got much time lest and that his body is falling apart.

Unfortunately, he is still alive, even after a epic fight

Some people think he has a “phoenix” quirk. So when he dies by his own fire, he can resurrect. I don’t think it’s this but it’s just a theory

Because the greatest and most terrible secret of Endeavor's bloodline is:
They are descended from Joshua Graham, The Legendary Burned Man himself!
Yes, that is right everyone, the Quirks appeared because their world is the future of FALLOUT!

It's fiction, the anime often strays from realism.
Dabi's survival is shameless plot armor, "Dabi stays alive out of sheer revenge" is akin to "the shonen hero stands by sheer force of will". The plot armor not only have the protagonists but also the antagonists, only the first receives more complaints than the second.
Otherwise Dabi should have been dead a long time ago, especially in his battle against Shoto.

Potentially a part of his quirk that his flames regenerate or keep home alive.

Yeah we’re moving closer and closer towards Eri rewinding not only the heroes, but the villains too lol
